Collies/ Bedlington terriers and sundry other dogs have been bred to do totally different jobs to a lurcher for generations yet they are added and bring qualitys to a lurcher line. What do pointers bring?, leg, nose, stamina and to be honest compared to a lot of lurchers I've seen, brain. And aren't there pleanty of tried and tested, for generations, breeds that bring leg, nose stamina to the "Lurcher" table, such as Deerhound, Saluki, etc ? I'll ask again. What will a Pointer bring to the table that recognised breeds can't ?? Cheers. To be brutally honest with you mat

Yes. And yet again yes.

Agree with what your saying, but to be fair that pups got collie staring right out it, and from reading your posts has inherited the collie brain and traits, doesn't really matter what it's called as long as it suits you.

bigdaz replied to crossy terrier lad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
whin you talk some bollocks a good dog on the moors don't have to do much running if its got a good nose it gonna do very well regardless the size I could walk the moors I go on with my old dog and bring off devastating numbers of rabbits and Brown hill hares and and not many got 10 yards from there seat and he wasn't fast just a great nose and a good knack of working the moors I have seen lots of dogs work these moors and there ain't been any what could do what that little dog did Agree with that also, I've had respectable bags of rabbits, twenty and above and little running involved wit -

Agree, there's a massive difference between a dog working a moor hunting up finding and catching as opposed to running sighted game. On the subject of blue hares/ whiteys, call them what you will ( around me they were called plastic hares) they were ideal for bringing a young dog on, however nine times out of ten they were no match for an older experienced dog. Everybody knows who has run them knows their not in the same leuge as a brown hare .I used to get £1.50 a peice back then for them so wasent realy botherd how easey they were though i did find them a bit harder to catch than rabbits -

Got some pictures with him on somewhere, will hunt them out, great ground to run on, lovely area..I think the deerhound club secured the land through Anastasia Noble (Ardkinglas) and a guy called Dr Shamus Caine..think I have some footage with him on too..do you not keeper now? My mate attended a coursing meet years ago ( can't recall where) and Anastasia Noble was there, might be wrong butI think he said she was around the eighty mark and was still plodding along and actually landed on her arse a couple of times, a hardy old bird. -
A maran, a maran cross and two Isa Browns for sale, three eggs from four birds every day. £15.00, central Scotland.

Christ your talking about moorland like it's akin to the dark side of the moon, when it's only another type of ground that many people hunt on with dogs. One of my favourite hunting grounds was a three thousand acre moor, over the years I've seen many types of dogs hunt and cope, some were better than others but that to my mind was down to experience rather than the way a dog is bred, the more visits/hunting trips the better they adapted, same for any ground. One of the best if not the best was a 24 inch to the shoulder first cross collie greyhound. -
There's a pattern there, don't become his friend.

Even when stock is checked every day these things happen, calves can go down quick, a lamb can stick it's head through a fence ten minutes after the rounds have been done, that's livestock for you.

I steer clear of them if I can and if possible use a manned till. Got to say though on the the rare occasions (shops mobbed) I do use them twice they've given me back the full money I've put in and charged me nothing and given me a receipt.

Just out of interest what did the section cost mate.

Is the bottom one havinawaff.

I've seen fast greyhoundy type lurchers that hunt up mark holes and other aspects of lurcher work, IMO, a more suitable stud or dam than a full grey which may well be faster but has no other qualities to add. I've only ever known a couple of guys in a lot of years that have mated a proven good working line to a pure greyhound simply because the dogs were starting to look like curs/stocky or as I would call them workmanlike. I don't think the lines were ever improved but I suppose they were more pleasing to the eye, which brings me nicely onto the topic of showing, rarely if ever do you see a

Good pics mate, you might want to tell your face your enjoying yourself though.

If she's rubber she can bounce on me anytime.

Go get it, nothing ventured nothing gained, over the years I've picked some prizes up lying supposedly knacked in peoples gardens. Worst case scenario it's fecked and goes over the scales, fill it full of shite and you'll get your money back in scrap.
-
So is it a yes or a no then, stop fecking about. No fecking around from me, I dont know whats going on and dont want to know. I heard threw the grapevine he is throwing challenges around as he usually does and saying I would or he wanted me to be a Judge. Hell will freeze over before I spend any amount of time in that mans company. I kind of worked that out mate, it was an attempt at humour, clearly not very good one.
