  1. Briliant pics: love the sky born rat: LOL.
  2. It's the same as the warning on a packet of peanuts: WARNING: contains nuts!!!
  3. Imagine what a child would be like if it had only ever been shut in a cage, never went to school, never played or went out: the same is true of dogs. He will be retarded in just about everything he does. Instead of treating him like the pup of 6 months that he is, treat him more like a pup of 8 to 12 weeks, because that is what he is mentally. He has been deprived of all the stimulation that normal dog owners do as a matter of course: taking the pup out in the fields, playing with it, getting it used to the big wide world and life in general. I've taken on pups that have been deprived in
  4. Forget this cross and that cross: get yourself a pup from parents lurcher to lurcher that have been doing the job well for years on ground and the type of hunting similar to what you'll be doing. The exact breeding of many of the best dogs is lost in the mists of time: they've been bred good worker to good worker and many have umpteen breeds in them. Just be careful not to fall for someone's bullshit. Now..I don't know these dogs personally, but the ones Brookie has advertised on here seem to do everything and have been tried and tested for generations. Why not contact him and find out
  5. Eeeeh: that looks nasty. Did the rib puncture the lung or did it just rupture with the impact? Lungs ruptured like that usually heal well: had it happen to one of mine: 3 months down the line she was fine and running again.
  6. Beat me to it! What a cracker: that little critter has presence already. I wish, I wish!
  7. Check that their teeth are not all gunked up with tartar: nasty brownish/yellowish deposits near gum line. Also causes gum disease: red swollen gums. Get them off complete food and put them on to a raw meat and veg diet (BARF), and get them on to a strict weight loss diet with more exercise. Also get vet to check their anal glands: they might well need emptying if they are on a complete diet. All the above can cause bad breath.
  8. Classic case of starting a pup too young! Very long slip for a 7 month old pup??? What the hell do you expect? Lay off the lamping until next season: try and get her out in the daytime: ferreting if possible: keep the hunting low key, calm and with no pressure from another dog to try and keep up.
  9. Their fur often sticks up along their spine if they are suffering internal pain: is she peeing and crapping OK? Could even be an abcess on the anal glands: but as socks says: get her to a decent vet.
  10. Some dogs are allergic to wheat and other cereals: which means that the stomach can be over sensitive and the dog's system whooshes the food through too fast resulting in runny stools: its more common than you might think but a lot of dogs are just mildly intolerant of cereals. If I were you I'd get the dog away from manufactured dog food/biscuit/complete food etc completely. Get him completely on to raw meat and bones and minced veg. Google BARF and see what it says: there have been one or two threads on here already about it. Of course it might not be food at all and be some other
  11. Welcome: looking forward to seeing some pics of your hounds and stags: especially the stags: I'm fascinated by them: are they similar in breeding to the Ozzie stags which seem to be mainly Deerhound, Wolfhound, Greyhound?
  12. Brilliant, brilliant pics: and I meant to say brilliant twice!
  13. Great stuff: wish we had a wide variety of quarry over here for the terriers.
  14. If the dog is continually chewing at the claw I'd get it checked out again and preferably removed completely: it sounds as though there is an ongoing irritation maybe due to low grade infection that just aint healing.
  15. What I'd be looking for in a slow starting youngster would be interest, keeness and probably a really bloody minded attitude Never mind that it wasn't doing the business properly, but if its looking and hunting and showing real intent that's good enough for me.
  16. Some large Saluki types I've seen run never reached their best until their 3rd year: they were doing OK before, but really lit the blue touch paper as they hit 3 years old. Some of these types are also very slow (speed wise) until they are 18 months old and some people have written them off too early: then they get that extra speed as they approach 2 years old. One of my better dogs wouldn't have caught a cold at 10 months: another year on and he was a really speedy dog, though he always had the stamina from the start.
  17. Just had it confirmed that the meeting has been cancelled: apparently the site is flooded.
  18. not only is it bullshit but to even attempt to run a young pup like that is a sure way to f**k its bones up and the countrymans weekly is suppose to be on the ball this is just the publicity the hunting world need p.s just sent an email to them everyone should. see if they apologies for being twats They are TW*TS for printing that rubbish, It is just my biaised opinion but a 16 week old puppy is just that - a fecking PUPPY. What is the email address there????? They have already been informed that they are **** for printing that letter: not only does it send out the w
  19. I wqouldn't really call them a line as such: I generally just keep bitches and use a handy dog that I've seen working when I want a litter. The black headed bitch is dam to the smooth white one with a tan patch on her head, but the sire was a red Lakey. They're what I call 'all rounders': wouldn't get half as much with the lurchers if I didn't have the terriers. Ratting's a real good fun day out and keeps them fit for other stuff LOL.
  20. What an awful sad accident: my thoughts are with you.
  21. A long neck and a good strike will more than compensate for the size. My old Deer/Grey was mustard on the lamp at 28 1/2 inches! Crap on the long ears though! LOL
  22. Personally its all about the dog doing its job well, and that includes the catch: can't see the point in running something and not catching it. If that were the case I'd have kept coursing Greyhounds only! Quite apart from the the fact that the dog deserves to kill when it's worked its butt off: I must admit that there were times when I felt the hare deserved to get away too, especially when it had tried every trick in the book, but my sympathies will always lie with the predator.
