Liars or am I doing something wrong?
tegater replied to Leamo's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I don't think anybody is saying it isn't possible because we all know it is, but from my point of view it is the fact that anybody can put a good group down with reasonable skill. A college of mine put down a 1cm group at 400m, with 5 shots from his .308, on a gallery range. Yes it can be done, but he was unable to keep putting down that group size, which then opened up to 4-5cm groups. There is a big difference in putting a good group down in ideal conditions all of the time, and putting a good group down some of the time in the changing world exterior ballistics, with what in essence is -
Good to see the little ones out with the Dad enjoying themselves. I've stopped for the season now, unless I get a clearout request from the paddocks. Is the terrier any good for ferreting, I have just got a my lads a patterdale, but that was more really for legal foxing? It teases the ferrets like F*ck at the moment and I am going to have to be careful otherwise otherwise the terrier will have them! atb.

A day on the ranges shooting the bigger guns
tegater replied to zini's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I'm not complaining mate, I enjoy watching all sorts of shooting and use plenty of these range types myself, and I always enjoy your vids, I am just suprised that you put this sort of stuff on youtube, in the full public domain. I seem to remember years ago, that range staff used to carry loaded weapons as a result of the potential for the threat from IRA, whilst on field firing areas. Dont want to fall out about it, but Afghanistan is a completley different ball game. Not falling out mate, far from it. We actually have to deploy sentries on the left and right arcs of this range m -

Hit the nail on the head there Dunc. Not many people can hit a £2 coin consistently at 100, let alone a £1 coin in the field. In fact there was recently a Military, Special forces, Police comp that was open to teams from across Europe, and all they had to do was knock the centre out of a £2 coin, from a 5 degree angle at 100 metres. Guess what? Hardly any competitor did it! The calibre they where using..... .308/7.62. Paper punching is one thing, field shooting is another. I have pulled off some spectacular shots with a rifle, but only when I have had the time to get into the prone -

Quite surprised the military let you put this on you tube, as Defence Estates don't usually like it. -
Warcop is probably the best place in the north of England for the .50 With awesome surroundings to boot.

Shot the Cheytac a few times now and imo better than the .50 barret, or AW 50, for long range accuracy, again both of which I have used. As to .50 cal loads, there are some specialist coco clubs around the country that may give you good advice.

A lot slag the hmr off on this site, but its a great calibre, awesome on corvids and ok in the wind, if you can read it ok. At lambing time like now, I am culling loads of crows, well out of range of shotty and .22rf. On top of that, because the crows are nesting I am getting a good steady trickle of them, instead of a large flock of bachelor crows that all disappear at the first shot. The main trouble for me with the hmr, is that it is an unforgiving round, and the slightest error in any of the principles of aimed shooting will result in a miss at distance. It isn't the calibre

Are you near lochs garten or Rutland for that one Romany or have you found a quieter location?

One shot, one kill !

Jai, I might have missed something here as I read page one then skipped to page 4 (sorry!) But in the late 70's I used to read a mag that was given to me second hand from the head keeper, called Gamekeeper Weekly (monthly). Whether it was because I was just starting out and naive, or whether it was because it was a mag written by keepers for keepers, which I doubt, as I have never met one that has had the time to write one, but I really enjoyed it. Again the countryman weekly is something again I get secondhand, in return for a bit of rabbit and mole control, but only a few times a

How many cops do you see armed with shotties? Tasers are designed for shooting animals aswell as humans, so surely it is better that PC plod armed with a taser tries something, rather than waiting for a fully armed copper to turn up, which could take ages! I use shotty in buildings and in the open, and they are far safer than HV or LV bullet which will ricochet like f@@k.

Shotgun or high velocity rifle to kill the c%ntin dog? Shotgun every time mate in a public place. I'm sure one of your avatars showed you with a child steve. You should understand this one mate. You should also know that most staffs these days are an excuse. I had staffs since 1970, when a staff was a staff, not just something a dog is now called since the DDA came into force. Are you really telling me that the cops, who fired the tasers were that incompetant? If it was yours kid and they did nothing, You really would have something to come on here and whine about. Not atall mat

"first they taser the poor thing" intimated you don't understand the situation! "first they tried smashing its head in with the nearest house brick" would have been more realistic.

A 12 year old girl was attacked fella. I don't care how that dog was killed. It could have been kicked to death by copper or public. If it was my dog, I would do the same. Feral dogs are often like the feral owners. Dog on dog or dog on cat are slightly different.

Anydog out of control like that needs shooting.

I have nothing to hide either, but in this case its attitudes like this that make me sick. Badger baiting/digging is illegal, end of! However the police have no right to, and shouldnt be pulling in folks just because they are out with a lurcher, patterdale, jack or whatever. If they want to do something then it should be 100% intelligence lead, and then, I wish them all the best, but when John Craven intimates that blokes waliking in the country with dogs are not neccessarily just out for a Sunday walk, that is dangerous territory to go down. My eldest lad who is just turned 11, and ha

Nice pics Rolfe, and those birds must be nesting in one of the safest, predator free places on the estate! -
Nice looking dog Ross.
