  1. An interesting read this one. I use a man made oven called a Cobb. It is made of aluminium and fueled by charcoal or heat beads. You may have seen them in use on the hairy bikers. I mainly use mine chicken, pheasant and rabbit, but you can use them for anything including making bread / pizzas, and fry ups. They really are a good bit of kit, and great for oven roasting in the field, on the beach etc. I will try and get a pic up.
  2. There are moors around me, where you see crows, ravens, buzzards, foxes etc, and there are moors where you see grouse, meadow pipits, curlews, merlins, lapwing, golden plover, snipe, woodcock, goldfinches etc etc etc. Buzzards and ravens have their own protection, but surely if some people called for a closed season on foxes and crows etc, it would be when they are breeding and probably when they are doing most damage. It just wouldnt work. I personally think there is a good balence in the countryside, but in other parts of the country, if what you read about shortages of rabbits is true,
  3. Captured the colours in the woody well.
  4. Love the vmax bullet, but don't know whether it would be worth changing. Have you looked at the .22 hornet or the new .17 hornet that will be out soon, also with vmax.
  5. One more happy farmer, and the wife was happy as well, because I wasn't out all evening on a Saturday night!
  6. After a local farmer spotted a couple of cubs outside a hole this morning, they were swiftly dealt with at lunch time. Next for the vixen! I planned were I was going to set up an ambush to whack the vixen, as it came back to the den this evening, taking into account a strongish quatering wind that would take my scent up the gulley towards it as it would come off its lie up spot on the moor. Not ideal, but there was no other option, as it would mean an unsafe shot in any other direction. My eldest lad and I left home at 7.30pm for a 2 minute drive down to the farm, which would get us se
  7. Thanks SS, St Davidson sounds nice, thanks for the recomendation.
  8. Thanks pal, I will take the hint re the dog, and sounds like some good fishing.
  9. Cheers Malt, Tim and Buster, great help. Thank you.
  10. Cheers Malt, that's great. Prob looking at some rock fishing for whatever is around in June, but the rest will be walking, beaches keeping the misses happy etc!
  11. Just booked a week away with the family staying in a cottage at Narberth, Pembrokeshire, and other than what I can see on the internet, I just wondered what its like, from those of you that live there or have holidayed there. I know it has some spectacular coastal scenery, and have seen decent pics that Malt and a couple of others have put up before, but where in your opinions are the best bits of the coast for scenery, walks with the family and dog, possibly a bit of fishing of the shore. Thanks in advance.
  12. I have one the same as in the photo for some of my ferrets, and its on flags. Its not as sturdy as some but its certainly up to the job if you look after it the same as everything.
  13. The farmers on all of my permissions also shoot. Are we really lead to beleive that they all have to let the cops know, every time they step out of their door, with their gun, on their land! Its popycock. If you want to save the police's time, give them your phone number, and everytime that someone phones old bill to report you, (which probably hardly ever happens) tell the police to phone your number to confirm it is you shooting! If they still turn out after that, then the whole process is a waste of time anyway. Save spending the tax payers money, on tying up the police!
  14. Each to their own. where I live the cops seem to police with some common sense.
  15. Which is another reason you shouldn't. I am interested though, what law they are applying when they say you have to notify them.?
  16. Not criticizing you Steve, I just refuse to do it. It is not because I have an issue with the cops because I support them 100%. It is because I disagree with the way that police "opinions" influence some shooters, and not the application of the law. Cars get used in crime, but I don't notify the cops everytime I go out in my car!
  17. Agreed mate.....but sometimes you get joe public ringing plod and you then get sh*t on ya even though you are doing nout wrong.....i do it to cover my back they know where i am so i have no chance of plod turning up and disturbing my hunt Ask yourself this.... how does plodded know 100% it was you that phoned up! When the same cops keep getting turned out to you they will soon get the hint. Think about it, if you were them!
  18. In this free society, and without breaking any laws, I refuse to notify the police when I go shooting, as I have permission, and that is recorded on my fac. When the law changes so that I have too, then I will. I shoot most days of the week over several thousand acres, and have never had the police turn out to me at any time. I understand some may feel the need to, but it is not a legal requirement and the cops cannot stick an H and K in your face without substantial evidence or an honestly held belief you are a threat to them. End of..
  19. Cold bore/hot bore, depends on what you are shooting. If you are going out knocking over rabbits and crows then a cold bore shot in theory is only good for the first one, then thereafter you will miss! In my experience any decent modern rifle will not group in to dissimilar a spot, until the rifle gets v hot. Some rifle barrels seem to be extremely thin, and it could be why this happens, but I doubt it in this case because the fella is still grouping ok, but just in different places. I would still reckon it might be a chasing the error problem as a result of rezeroing to a pos
  20. They are not Lapwing I think. These are some lapwing eggs, which the b*stard crows have found.
  21. I did one of the best i've ever had and will you carry on your videos this season for the ferreting? Will do.
