  1. Everyone I've spoken to has the same, .22RF rather than specific cartridge. I know some forces specify, for example, .22LR or .22WMR, but my understanding of the legislation is that the calibre has to be specified, not the cartridge!
  2. Let me get this straight. You paid for someone to turn up and collect it, told him when, and he was out and didn't leave it for the courier to collect? If I've got that straight, then what a tit!
  3. Bu##er! I'd love to join you mate, but we've just moved house so need to unpack over the weekend. It'd be difficult to do any hunting anyway, as I have no idea where half my kit is. "It's in a box" is about the closest I can manage!
  4. With a springer, changing the weight will change the point of impact a fair bit, and increase the felt recoil. You might also get a bit more muzzle flip which could affect accuracy.
  5. Glad you found yer way over here mate. I might have nailed about 2000 acres of permission for pest controlling, bunnies, hares, pigeons and possibly foxes too!

  6. Something different about what? Not sure what you mean!
  7. What's different? If you mean the law regarding having an airgun in a public place, and shooting unsupervised, then yes you're right. If you're older than 14 but younger than 18, then you may borrow but not own by way of gifting, or purchase an airgun, or ammunition for an airgun. Again, if you're over 14, you are allowed to shoot unsupervised over land which you have permission to shoot on. Be careful that no pellet leaves the permission, as this is an offence. The main limiting factor is that you cannot carry an air rifle in a public place under the age of 18 years, unless y
  8. "Zeroing" is an essential part of using a rifle. I would say that if for some reason a police force tried to prevent it for any reason, they would be placing an unfair condition on the certificate holder, as they would effectively be prevented from using the rifle at all if they are not allowed to "zero" by shooting at paper targets. Of course, there's no right of appeal for conditions on certificates, only if they decline completely, a fact that some forces will use to make things difficult for the holder!
  9. You'll also need to get a variation to allow expanding ammunition, though any sensible police force will automatically add this for an application for use on live quarry. Give your FEO a ring, he should be able to advise!
  10. The money's in the preparation. A complete carcass takes a fair amount of work to turn it into saleable product. The price/kg is shockingly low still, but the dealer has to absorb a fair amount of waste in terms of bone weight that can't be sold on, and also the 2 hours or so of skilled butchery to turn a whole carcass into joints and cuts. It does rather annoy me when I see venison for sale at £20 plus per kilo, knowing the amount that the dealer will have given the hunter for it.
  11. What's your region mate? You definitely need to put zeroing down as a reason to hold, though most police forces that I know put it on automatically anyway. As for pest control, some forces will give individual species that you are entitled to shoot with it (more so with larger calibres, but some will do it with .22 too) whereas others will condition it for "all legal quarry". Mine came conditioned for pest control, shooting any legal quarry and also zeroing/target practice. That means that on my FAC I can use it for competition shooting. The only thing to be careful of is that expanding a
  12. Being pernickety, the ME is 56.16 ft.lb, that .84 is important! And yes, it might be puny compared to a .243 (or even a .22LR) but then the .243 is puny compared to the .50, which in turn is puny compared to a 20mm cannon, which is puny compared to a.......... It's horses for courses really. Not much point using a .50, or even a .243, for shooting small game. Granted it'll get the job done, but like elephants mating it'll only be achieved with a lot of noise and mess (though unlike elephants mating it won't take 2 years to get any results!)
  13. Ooh, I didn't realise cricketer's were legal airgun quarry! I'm off to the local club now! Never ceases to amaze me how much good food goes to the ferrets. Don't get me wrong, I love the little critters, but best pigeon breast? whole bunnies? That's MY dinner, the critters can have the leftovers!
  14. Every time I go out, before I fire at anything living, I fire a group of three to check my zero. Takes a few seconds and is the difference between humane kills and possibly wounding an animal.
  15. I couldnt take an air arms s410 off someone for that cheap even if they didnt know the value. I would feel as though I had robbed them Kyle Oh I could! Like the radio DJ, who's wife sold his Lotus (which was in her name for tax reasons) on eBay while he was on air because of a comment he made. Cheap Lotus Esprit turbo anyone?
  16. still smiling here, picked up 2 x new 10 shot cz mags for £30 delivered from another forum Ah, the joys of a "mainstream" rifle. Try finding mags for a little known Austrian made semi going by the name "Voere". They're around the £50 each, WHEN you can find them, which is rare!
  17. Matt you are right.............see my first post on this thread....e-mail your mp.....who else has already done so???????? I have, in fact me and my MP are on first name terms i e-mail him that often......thats how the anti's got the hunting act....they spoke to teh mp's all the fecking time...use the system as they did I certainly have emailed my MP about it, that reminds me I need to send a copy of the letter to BASC. My girlfriends father is a JP, and knows his local MP very well. He seems generally supportive too.
  18. That only allows for humane dispatch where they have been injured, for example if they've broken a leg, or been hit by a car, stuff like that. The Regulatory Reform (Deer) (England and Wales) Order 2007 A person shall not be guilty of an offence under section 4(1) or (2) above by reason of the use of any reasonable means for the purpose of killing any deer if he reasonably believes that the deer has been so seriously injured, otherwise than by his unlawful act, or is in such condition, that to kill it is an act of mercy.†Where section 4 is section 4 of the Deer act, which sets ou
  19. See now, what you're all doing is confusing politics with common sense! If the politicians see the chance to win a load of free votes amongst the towny "mum's against guns" brigade, they will not hesitate for one second to shaft the living daylights out of the law abiding shooter, especially if we don't stand up and let them know that WE command a good proportion of the vote too! The shooting community sat back after the tragic events of Hungerford, and got shafted. We sat back after the horrifying scenes in Dunblane, and got shafted again. Let's just hope that enough people will stand up

  21. The species your venison comes from depends on where you are, the time of year, what's available to the buyer, there's no real way of telling which species unless you shoot a few and get to know the size of cuts, but even that's not infallible as you can get a small red, similar in size to a large fallow. Around the south of England, the venison is most likely to come from Roe, followed by fallow. You will very rarely get muntjack or red, and CWD is rarer still. I find the smaller deer tend to be a bit more tender, though I think there is more difference between different genders and a
  22. I don't take that publication. What are his sources?
  23. Those peninsular deer certainly get to a good size! Lots of nice sheltered forestry I guess. Sounds like you had a great trip, and succesful too! I hope you brought some good meat back with you too!
  24. I came home on sunday but we are pencilled in for the last week in august next year already we stayed just on the very about 20 mins from the ferry from the mainland but had to drive an hour a day to get to the stalking and it was only about 25 miles, where we are looking at for next year is just near the most westerly tip and about 30 seconds from where we will meet them so its far more convenient. So you were near Corran? Wish I could afford some stalking up there, lucky git!
  25. He was and he did and i did but all after the photos were taken George Half Scottish i believe. Which half though? Where abouts on the peninsular are you staying mate? It's a beautiful place. If you get a chance take a trundle up to Mallaig and hop over to the Isle of Rum for a day. Have a wander round Kinloch castle and see some of the heads there. There's a good deal of sold shooting there too, ask for Derek. If you stalk on Rum you'll get your stag brought back on a pony too!
