  1. I can't think of anything worse! I want to be able to find a cartridge when I drop it. It's like a knife, I want it to have a nice bright handle so when I drop it or put it down it doesn't immediately disappear into the grass!
  2. And imagining the target is the little prick who ran into her does wonders for her accuracy I bet!
  3. No, not in the envelope, just tape the envelope to whatever you want to send!
  4. My favourite is to get a nice bit of venison, for preference red calf. Slice the meat very thinly and drape it over the wire of the oven shelf and heat for a few hours on absolute minimum heat. No need to season or anything, just dry it out, then enjoy! If you want to keep it, you need some sort of preservative, but I always find it doesn't last long enough!
  5. hi Matt Personally i would rather he fight! then i could apologize to him after i bit his throat out,and watch the reaction in his eyes! when i tell him "sorry i was only trying,to give you a love bite" after our roll about on the floor   regards Davy Davy, I don't think anyone would try and break in to your place, with the dogs and all. I think you'd need to be quick to get there before the big girl. I know she's soft as s##t, but it's amazing how mad a dog will go if it's protecting it's family! Like I said, ideal situation I'm cleaning one of the b
  6. Not true scarecrow. You can hold ammunition for obsolete calibres without a cert. And you can hold shotgun cartridges without any certificate, you just can't buy them!
  7. Yes, the semi will give far less recoil. I've heard good things about the Hatsan Escort, though obviously if you have more money to spend then the big names (Beretta etc.) will always offer good value for money. I love the dog in your pic by the way, what make is he?
  8. It's difficult for the dedicated shooter to remember all the laws, and firearms law is a very small part of what they have to deal with, so you can't really blame them for being a little uncertain!
  9. He had a springer, and he managed to shoot him twice? Personally I wouldn't shoot someone with an air rifle, it'd just p##s them off and make them more likely to fight. A good smack on the noggin with the butt is a better bet.
  10. Mate, that's a 57, a mutt, a mongrel! If you want to work it out, it'd be something like 7/16 bull, 2/16 Saluki, 7/16 greyhound, but that's pretty meaningless after the first couple of iterations.
  11. Nothing wrong with patriotism. I am English, and proud of it. That doesn't mean that someone who, by accident of birth, speaks a different language or has a slightly different skin colour, is any less of a person. Get this very clear, there is a HUGE difference between patriotism and racism! Those who try to use "patriotism" as an excuse for xenophobia and hatred are sad individuals. Of course, they have the right to say whatever they want, as I have the right to call them unreconstructed, neanderthal pricks! As for all this "immigration is bad" bollocks, what sort of mess wou
  12. Some of them are limited, others aren't. A comedian a few years back used to do a bit about them (think it was Mark Thomas) where he got people to send all sorts using the pre-paid envelopes. It started with bricks and the like, ended up sending an entire iron bed frame, and then a car.
  13. Well, to counter all this, there's one I KNOW isn't anti, and that's Lloyd Weber. I work on the farm next door to his place, and he puts down thousands of birds a year, and shoots several days. Get loads of free pheasants and partridges dropped off every week!
  14. Erm..... you do realise you're talking bollocks right?! The chemicals used are different, but you can make any metal anodic, and therefore coat it anodically ("anodise" it)
  15. Get yourself down to a well stock RFD and get him to let you pick up the riles you're interested in. The overall weight isn't everything, balance is as important. Some rifles have the weight well forward (generally anything with a separate cocking handle, so under and side lever) whereas others will have the weight well back. In use, the rifle with the balance towards the butt end will feel lighter for the same weight, and will be easier to hold steady on aim for unsupported shots, but may be more prone to muzzle flip. Like I say, try a few out, have a few shots and see which one FEELS rig
  16. Looks like the guy was taking a swing at him with the bar, so I guess it came under "reasonable force". Of course, he could have been done for failing to prevent an under 18 (his daughter) from having access to an air weapon! He might get a bit more of a shock if he breaks in to mine, firstly the dog would take exception, and then I might be cleaning the shotgun or rifles. Reckon I'd get away with taking his head off with the shotgun, if I had it out to clean and was under threat?
  17. The home owner who shot him is lucky not to be prosecuted! As for him phoning the police to complain, serves him right and I hope they throw the book at him. BTW, you don't actually believe anything you "read" in the star do you?
  18. It's not really comparable, as there is no restriction on the purchase of air rifle pellets (other than age and not being a prohibited person).
  19. Ahhh, now if you REALLY want to see/hear ricochets, throw a .44 solid lead slug weighing 300 plus grains at 1300 fps rom a 6 inch barrel (or 1600fps from a rifle barrel)
  20. That's an interesting one. I would imagine that most who hold a section one shotgun will probably hold an SGC first, so this obviously removes the problem. However, for the rare incidence when someone has a section 1 and not an SGC, I'm not aware of any specific specifications. I know that an FAC with a certain calibre on it allows you to purchase ammunition for that calibre, up to the prescribed limit, but I don't know whether shotgun ammunition for a S1 shotgun is entered on the certificate. I wouldn't have thought so, as there is no control on shotgun certificates once they are purchase
  21. Pianoman, that's not entirely true. The rifle needs to rest on the palm of the hand for consistency of shot, but there's nothing saying the hand can't be rested on something (gate post, shooting stick, whatever you have to hand)
  22. Dadio, I agree it sounds pedantic, but who can really say that they actually "need" a firearm? Many of us use them for pest control and the like, but as a hobby. So we "need" them in the same way that someone who knits "needs" their needles. Now if the requirement was a "need" then most of us would lose our FAC's. We have good reason to hold, for sure, but we don't actually have "need".
  23. Chickenman, any FEO who would prefer to issue a .17 over a .22LR, simply on the grounds that the .17 is less likely to ricochet needs taking away for re-education! Firstly if you apply the rules, and only fire towards a safe backstop etc. etc. the odd ricochet is not an issue. It only becomes an issue if you decide to fire in an unsafe direction. The .17 is more powerful, and if fired in an unsafe direction is more likely to do harm than the .22. Frankly I would question anyone who chooses the .17 over the .22 simply on the basis of ricochet safety (the .17 can and does ricochet b
