you usually find the beaks will go white around 16 hrs daylight but like ya say fireman if the bird is in condition will breed and doesn't need a white beak to be in condition as like I say daylight hours turn it white rather than condition bred many a mule in late april early may

I have 4 pair goldfinch, 2 pair bullies of which 1 pair cinnamon 16 pairs golden dimorphic canaries 8 pair of red dimorphic and 2 goldie cocks which I keep for muleing

cheers all, goldies and bullies started carrying last couple of days but will try and hold them back till end of april as for the goldie cock muleing ive watched him tred her several times and he muled no prob last year

I might give the bully goldie a go this year tried many years ago but failed but will give it another go and hopefully now after a good few years breeding I can succeed fingers crossed

when I bred natural light I paired first week in april had great numbers + of 20 pair goldies put together second week in april had good numbers of them last 6 years so getting there variety of diet I find best for conditioning

I think it will depend on many peoples set up if light required i need lights as breeding shed to dark with lights of but birds were laying in aviary so paired them last sat and light now on 6.30 till 6 will extend next week till 7 but wont go any further than that most are ready ones that are,nt have no nest pans in they will let me know when there ready when i was at old house naturally bred as lighting was better found with light you must watch ya birds and see whats in condition and what isnt

That's where i have come unstuck Mate.. i have two here that have a bright red blaze that passes the eye quite a bit and black bristles at the base of the beak..but they have brown wing butt's.. defo hens if brown on wing butt pal cocks no chance this time of year being even a little bit brown

millet you struggling sexing them mate should be easy enough this time of year mate,i find opening the wing on the goldies and where the wing meets the body if its brown feathering it a hen if its black its a cock mate seen lads do it by the red on the head but bred many a hen with red past the eye

just paired mine yesterday hen started laying on aviary floor all depends on conditioning if ya got them right they will be fine, if there not in condition you will mess ya breeding up, theres more than 10hrs daylight now that's all they need to set them off
