Ive been perscribed Malaseb Shampoo for the Hob, and my Sal-x. Would that be any good for Mange? As I have a bottle, might be worth keeping it around if it is. It was perscribed for a fungal infection the hob had, and a skin problem that the Sal-x has. How do you know Mange? What do I have to keep an eye open for? Ken

Has any one hired off DUGDALES BOY AN DAWN SHADOW
KenKeeping replied to laidlaw22's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As has been said earlier guys! Dont get on the boys back, he was only asking a simple question! I belive its almost the same question I asked the first time I arrived on here! Then I had a real good welcome and response as I remember, Whats changed. Cmon, it is the new year, lol. There are a lot of coursing dogs in the breeding if I am right! I would like to belive the ped papers are right, but if not, it wont take away the fun of owning Aladdin, ped or ot, a good Sal is a good dog to have. I ave just taken on a Sal-x, that has been thrown from rescue to rescue! Either Whip or Grey -

As I said in PM, if you send me Email, I will let you have her 5 gen Ped. Ken -
They are averaging around a fiver to a tenna down this way! If people had to pay more for them, perhaps they would take more care with them. Too many I know get hold of them and treat them like shit, and when something happen to them, they say, Well! I can just go and get another, no probs. Another thing is the people who breed a jill just to make a few bucks on the litter! No care for the Jill once the litter is born, and she goes down hill with lack of nourishment. Seen it first hand!

Yeh! I like some of the older ones myself! -
My Sal is a tease when it comes to other dogs. He is now 12mnths old and 26"tts. Whenever he sees another dog in the field, he bounders over to them, getting them to chase him around. Keeps in front of them most of the time thankfully, lol. But as soon as there is two dogs on the scene or more, he is very unsure, with his tail down and looking sheepish! Spos its just his way. I try and let him have his own space to decide for himself if he wants to sit or run.

If a deer is on your permission, isnt it fare game? Probably wrong, just going by what ive been told in the past!

It may be a small area, but if there are rabbits on it, then it must be a tidy place to start a new dog or handler off in IMO! But what do I know, Im'e new to this game mayself, lol. Probably take the gun as well as the Sal I must admit. Spos the problem with a small area, the rabs are always too close to the hedge ore holes to give the dog a fair chance! Gets you out the house though !

I admit, I payed money for my Sal, as most of you have! But if you look back at the history of the Saluki, you will find that the beduins never sold a dog, but gave it as a present to a honoured friend, or as a reward, etc. They were bred from well known stock, and are treated with respect. Dogs over here, whatever make model or breed, are too often used as money making scemes. Made to order crosses. Or: Someone makes up a cross he thinks will sell, and after finding no one wants them, and he aint ganna make lots of cash on them, what happens to them then? If the money wasnt to be

Nice pup! Wish my Sal would stay put when walking with me, lol. He is always half a field in front checking out the area, lol. You are lucky, lol. As was said earlier, let a pup be a pup for a while though.
-
Nice looking pup! Good to see its taking note of the fluffy tails. Will make a good un I recon.

Great pics! Full of young or not, the chap and his dogs are doing a grand job of clearing the fields for the farmers. It does what it says on the truck! Vermin control! Those whips look as though they can do the job on anything thats put in front of them. You got a good team there1

I agree! Nice bitch! And a good write up as well

Starting young lurcher on rabbits
KenKeeping replied to Sakina&Lyra's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
From what I read on this forum, that seems to be the best way, dont it! Taking a young dog out with an experienced dog to get them seeing how they do it. and is it right that summer rabbits are easier for them to catch, as they are not so wise? -
Thought you were spos to be training a dog to help you out on a hunt, not BREAK it! Shit! Didn't treatment like this go out with the wild west?

Now explain what a cuddle is to an american, lol.

whippet x greyhound x whippet pups born today
KenKeeping replied to Chickens4ever05's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I was thinking exactly the same then, lol. Great pups, even greater bitch! She does you proud! You obviously know your dogs! -
Looks very alert Riohog! Nice looking dog!

What better to look at while you are resting after a hard days/nights hunting than a quality painting or scetching of your very own working partner! A lot more personal than just any old dog taken from a catalogue I recon! You should all be proud of the pics, and look after them. And when they are gone, its something that you can sit with and reminis of all the great times you have had together! This could work out to be a long thread I recon. Thanks for sharing the pic with us Jak

Great pics mate! Like that rough a lot! You seem to be doing something right!
-
Thats a great looking dog! Love the socks and tail, no problem picking them out when in the fields at night
-
Good 40 mins butt! At least yu got lunch sorted! Looks a nice light gun? Whats your oppinion between .22 and .177, as far as rabbits is concerned? I have been thinking of going down to .177 myself, as I was told they are more acurate, is this right?
-
You got a long while yet JD! They are naturaly imature for a lot longer than most dogs, so Ive been told, lol. My Sal, Aladdin is 12 mths and still jumps around like a kid in a toyshop when he meets new dogs and people. They take a lot longer to mature!
-
My Sal Aladdin is 12mths now, and I would like to put him accross a whippet, but I am waiting another 6 mths and thats for myself. Have been told of others doing it at an early age, but I dont think its a good idea myself!
