I do have a granit bolder in the middle of the floor but its not that big, she perches on it and uses it as a table sometimes. Once the flight is erected, I will put some other larger ones in there. Thanks for input Wingbeat! As I mentioned in other post, I ws so shocked at the talons and feet in general of Kessy the female , that I am determined that none of my birds are gonna get in that state!
-
Funny but Ime not realy, lol. What it is, I had a Female Kestrel here not so long back that had been rescued from a old couple that had had it years. They actualy treated it like a parrot, and took it away in their caravan in a budgie cage! Her beak was curved right under so I had to get it reshaped. The talons were about three times as long as they should be and she couldnt stand on a perch tidy no matter a block perch! All I was wondering is was there anything that the bird uses in wild that helps stop the talons overgrow, that I can add to the mews to help imitate! That Kestrel had Bu

I always find that general Hunting forums have a better attitude to helping out beginers in all areas of the hunting comunity! It is nice not to be made to feel like a lepper, when you ask the obvious questions! They dont realise that what might be obvious for them, is a nessesary question to ask by us newbies, lol. If you dont ask, you dont learn! Better to ask what seem like stupid questions, and get a answer on it, than be affraid to be made a fool of online, and put the health and wellbeing of a bird, ferret, dog etc at risk by doing something and learning the wrong way. I like to

Ah! Get you on the talons! Ta!

Is there anything that would be recomended to put into the mews with the Harris to help her keep her beak and tallons down?
-
£2.50 for 200? That is giving them away! Now that makes me feel well done out of my pennies, lol. Lucky begger you!
-
Thanks Millet for the input! All answers are apreciated big time!

Thanks! Reading that puts it into perspective! Was told that the egg sack in a chic is a waight gain factor of BOP. Is that so, and when controling waight for flying etc, is it practice to remove these?
-
Thanks for that I will I think. Always worth asking advice though I recon! Can you please tell Jessy not to eat it all in one sitting, lol.

Talking to one of the boys today, and he said his mates Owl died after fish bones stuck! Thats one thing I would be worried about. Cant see a Harris getting much fish in the wild would they? I thought that if you soak pork it takes a lot of the salt out?
-
Hi Wingbeat! Thats what Ive been told! Surprised me a bit, as I thought a pigeon, like squirel would be healthy as they dont eat crap. Well that knocked that idea! lol. I assume day old ducks, or ducks in general would only be fed ocationaly then, as you say, they put waight on with them. cheers
-
Cheers for the enlightenment! Should have known, lol. As far as Mackrel is concerned, does he debone it, or give it whole? Ide be on edge with the bones in fish, lol. ( my mum used to always tell us to eat lots of bread and butter when eating fish, it helps the bones go down) Cant tell a Harris that though can we, lol.

when i had birds i always bred my own quail and also brought in chicks, supplimented with rabbit, hare. duck. moorhen when thy became available its a lot like humans a varied diet is a healthy diet but you just need to understand how each will effect the weight of your bird, and the only way you will do that is through trial and error. I was talking to someone the other week, that fed his Falcons on day old Ducks. They said that the ducks put the waight up on the Falcons a lot, so to be carefull! Is this right?
-
Fish? Thats the first time Ive heard that mentioned anywhere! What fish fid they feed? Spos the oils would be of benefit for them. Might sound dumb, but what are Corvids? lol. Cheers for all replies had and to come guys, Ime keeping note of everything.

nature did invent a freezer, its called the Welsh Winter, lol. As you say, a Harris seems more forgiving with alterations in waight flutuations, more than a small falcon. A mate of mine breeds Quail, and sells to falconors regular. Is there any benefit of freshly killed birds rather than the frozen bulk buy ones I already get now. Apart from price wise, lol. All the frozen stock that I buy from my supplier comes from Honeybrook farm, so should be of good standard I would imagine, having the majority on suply! would there be any problems would you think if i get the quail fresh from

hi Paulus! Ta for that! Ive been hearing a lot about this need for the feather and fur thing needed to cast. So obviously thats where the full carcus of the animals come in! My dogs have rabbit, pigeon and squirrel etc when available, but I skin them first for them. I imagine the same carcus' would idealy be frozen first to kill off any mites worms ore fleas etc and then defrosted before offering to bird? As far as the liver, heart etc, I would be only giving it as an addition to the Quail, Chicks etc. I there anything you would recomend not to give a BOP in any circumstances? Ch

Right! Everyone seems to feed there BOP day old chicks, quail etc that they buy frozen. So I follow suit and do the same. I also try and vary her diet with other meat. I run two Saluki sight hounds, and they have a variety of meat in there daily meals. I would like to let the HH have the same quality meat I feed the Sals, but am afraid that I may be doing wrong! Is there any meat that you wouldnt recomend feeding to a BOP, and why? Also the other way around! Is there anything that you would recomend using so as to benefit her! The Sals have Heart, Chicken, Liver, Rabbit, L

Ime paying £8.50 for 200 at the moment, from someone who buys bulk and sells on. So you lot are better off than me. As I only have the one FHH its not breaking the bank. Will be getting a bigger freezer for the birds and the dogs food, so will think about buying more at a time o try and keep cost down. How long do frozen day old chicks last in a freezer?

I contacted Jeremy about some Roo, and when replied, he seems a great guy to talk to about hides. and from what Ive been told from someone on IFF, his stuff is first rate! Wish my fingers were supptle enough to have a go at hood making, but sadly not. I will stick to the basic ancklet and Jesses for now.
-
They say that if you fly a few birds in a cast, and for some reason one is being kept back not flying, then a hood is handy to fit on then. I know there are some will say, why not put them in the travel box, but its just what Ive read. Probably talking shite again, lol.

Ive been told that a Harris is so inteligent it has a habbit of training you and not the other way around if your not carefull, lol. I have started with a FHH and I can actualy say I have to be one step ahead of her if I can, its terible admiting that your bird has sometimes got the upper hand on you, lol. HH do seem to be the first hawk a lot of people start with dont they? I always wanted a Saker Falcon, but was warned off it as a starter bird. One day mind once my jessy has taught me the ropes, lol. HH are spos to be good hunting together! Any of you boys or girls do that? Must

I have used Dettol spray, on the hutches and anywhere the Ferrets and dogs go, since Ive had them. Its great stuff. No! It dont make water go foggy! I use the one in the green trigger spray bottle. Always dry it off with a kitchen roll swab after use though to get rid of excess!
-
Yeh! She is in there! She's getting soft, lol.
-
From what Ive nticed, most ferrets take their food somewhere quiet out of the way to eat it! Ive got a last years jill, she bites now and again, but its how they play togeter I spos, and its just the fact that our pain threshold is not as good as theirs, that we take offence to it! I read on here somewhere not to go in like a bull in a china shop, but gently with the hand so she knows whats coming. This jill I have has come a long way now Ime taking more time with her. My hob is another thing all together! He is massive and as soft as a baby. Dixie! My Hob. You can do anything, and
