  1. levi bred the best hardest strain of borders ever know for me , once entered you had to dig them out or they stayed hard on , i dug with ray / albert , they were the best terrier men around sadly ray has gone , i dont think his strain will ever be bettered ,just my opinion lads
  2. lol just had my farmer on the phone . theres 100s of rabbits come & kill them they are only kits
  3. good comment ,the one , i was at a big permission last week (he owns 5 huge farms ) i could see kits about everywhere ? he told me to kill them all ! . i said let them enjoy the summer then i will do the job . he agreed , so he is happy & i will have rabbits to eat ,instead of tiny kits to throw to my ferrets
  4. bradford lad /ftm good replies , i respect your views you are the type of hunters the sport needs you obviously are expirienced hunters
  5. thanks daz /buster obviously you are both expireienced hunters & country men too many people think its wise to shoot everything at any time regardless of breeding season , i respect your views
  6. sorry chris but my farmers have completele confidendence with me they trust my judgement ive had the same permissions for 20 + years if they want someone else on there land they are not happy with you, its a load of bollocks they wont let anyone else on , i know ive farmed for 50 yrs if they dont want you on they will tell you know
  7. hi lads lets have your opinions again , ok we all all have a selection of state of the art air rifles or springers lol , now summer is here .is it fair to shoot our quarry , if you shoot a crow pigeon or maggie , anything ,one way or another 1 parent has to feed the brood or they starve ? is that reasonable .ok you lamp or shoot a fox ? the dog or vixen has to bring the cubs up alone ?( with the right rifles of course ) are we ethitcaly or moraly wrong to shoot & kill at times of breeding & reproduceing our future sport , i personally think all nature has a right to have a chance t
  8. excellent si ,common sense prevails ,my m8s shoot a huge area of the dales .killing 100s even 1000s make little difference on them ,what i am saying is there is a definite shortage of rabbits in general . on some estates where the lucky people have permission & some big farms i know they have to be killed year round as sometimes the habitat & cover protects them from all predation but once again overall the rabbits are in decline countrywide .common sense is needed
  9. thanks lads for a decent discussion here ,it seems most if not all are sensible experienced hunters who obviously know the game , a lot of my land borders national trust land when has huge pops of rabbits ,b ut the farmer is a nature lover & i dont shoot only when he tells me too clear some ,i like to leave plenty for my ferreting forays ,he is happy i am happy ,some of my other pals shoot 100s each week they have to as there are 1000s on the land they control , so each to his own as you say , as i said before sensible replies from experienced lads thanks
  10. i would do the same thing if if weren't the fact that when the numbers had got up and others noticed it they would go poach you rabbits. so you would have wasted your time waiting. excellent reply thats what happens
  11. thank you for the input i appreciate & value your comment sir
  12. fair replies lads ,i have some permissions that require that ,but do we all not secretly leave the little ones for a bit later
  13. now thats proper knowledge of shooting & nature fair play to you , some farms i shoot are swarming with them ok selective shooting is fine ,but lads with very few bunnies are not as fortunate & i realise they need to shoot , but on the whole let them have some time to recupperate a bit
  14. whats the opinion on a volountary close season for rabbits ? us old boys never hunted bunnies if there wasnt an R in the month ! all you hear is theres no rabbits anymore ,where have all the rabbits gone ! well the poor feckers are hunted ,shot ferreted lamped snared hawked longnetted you name it , they have it , in our times there was no NV THERE WAS MIXI BUT STILL 10000S OF RABBITS so how can they survive if they dont have time to breed ???? right lads feel free to abuse me ,i expect it .them who know the countyrside & proper fieldcraft what do you think
