    i know this is an old post but you havent listed the 3 breeds i would be considering if i was purchaseing a guard dog;- caucasion mountain dog, czech wolf dog maybe even the giant schnauzer if i wanted something a bit easier than the other 2 breeds lol!

    my parents have a gsp x border collie, he came via a gsp bitch handed in to a rescue with her newborn litter, he looks like a heavily built mainly black english pointer. clever dog, as a pup he couldnt seem to make his mind up wether to herd something or point at it, sometimes doing both, wouldve made a decent dog for rough shooting but is unfortunately epileptic, very nice balanced temperament + doesnt mind water either.

    organisers tent was in the middle of the gamefair, fair distance from the lurchers and terriers but central to the fair as a whole, i was in there talking to albert + foxgun tom for a short while just before they brought the trophys out for the terrier championship, seemed very busy in there to be fair. from an outsiders perspective there wasnt much anyone could really do, if security were all protecting the terriers and lurchers the travellers would simply target the main gamefair or the public carpark, if they kicked them out they'd probably jump the fence and be back in again, and they

    usually have some leather ferret collars + harnesses at gamefairs, usually priced between 1.50-2euro for collars, 4-5euro for harnesses, if your stuck cut down a cat/kitten collar to size or even a puppy collar if you can find one small enough

    if i get that feeling with a dog i quickly start to weigh up my options. if it can be rehomed for other work or as a pet i'll go down that route, if its not suitable as a pet + it fails to make the grade it will be pts.

    i wouldnt go the talc route, butter is better for that job but the bitch will take onto them a lot easyier if she smells like her own, you also want them suckleing very quickly after meeting her, that also kicks her hormones into shape, be very careful, dont leave her with them until she appears to have accepted them

    tell them you want to take dog for a walk to see how he behaves with your own dogs etc, take him to a local park, run him with your dogs, see how he moves when running with them, and watch his behavior with them. keep your distance from him on an emotional level, think it through. recommend you sleep on it at that point and decide if hes for you the next day. also i wouldnt mention hunting. LL have no qualms with working homes. The right dog in the right home is their priority. But will not rehome to be kennelled out. since i didnt know which charity was rehomeing the dog, the a
