  2. im more of a "that might come in handy one day" bloke Same here, I love hoarding, I reckon Im boarderline. I think I must have owned something then threw it away only to need it again once upon a time.. half the time i know ive got one but the difficulty comes when trying to remember where it is Oh no, I know where my gear is, I squirrell stuff away..., Until the Mrs moves it or "tidy`s" Then theres the 20 mins of hide and seek, as she cant remember where shes put it..
  3. The twine I used was agouti's spun polyester and that takes a single knot so no need for a double knot. I have not a clue how to explain a side knot or even take photos, I will have to think about how I can show one being made. TC Thank you. Much appreciated TC.
  4. That left to right, right to left knitting.... Aint gonna be easy for a lefthanded, right hooker. Could I cheat, and when the net is on a pole, could I not repair from both sides for the time being, effectively always knitting from left to right?
  5. Wow!! Thanks TC. You came through again.. I`ll have another good look at this later with some materials in hand. What knot do you use? Looks like you have used a single? Just for demo purposes?

  7. I was in Javea, a year or two ago, some stunning wildlife. Some crazy big bugs too. Caught all sorts of lizards and bugs for the kids to take a look at..
  8. I was around that age when it happened to me, it wrecked my uncles stock. Now whilst I had no one to answer to, it was a accident thats not happened since. Im sure he`s learnt his lesson Andy.. Bloody scary as a kid when it goes off.
  9. If you getting like that, make sure they get the tiger too, she pissed all over our motor.
  10. Jesus. You wouldnt want a bite from one of them.
  11. Seen plenty of adders and slow worms by the 1000`s, but never a grassie.
  12. Get some 4 or 6z and cut holes in it then practice mending the holes. All you need to remember is you have to cut away some meshes to make the repair easier for yourself. If you look at the drawings in the link no matter what shape the break is they alway cut away meshes so that you can complete the repair in one go. I have an old net here that is in drastic need of repair, when I get round to doing it I will take photos. TC Get some of the 4z I got from advanced netting, no need to cut holes in it, it was pure tripe. Not good mate. Its 6z I got from them, not 4z.. Theres was a

I have an old net here that is in drastic need of repair, when I get round to doing it I will take photos. TC I might just do that TC, Ive some 4z in the shed. I`d have to use kite string though, its the nearest twine ive got to 4z. Its not a lot thinner actually.
  15. When you use the original twine that the net is made of, the mend is almost invisable with a hand made net. It's the nylon that is a bugger to mend because of the z twist twine that nylon nets are made of, when you stretch it tight it twist and because the knots are steamed when made on the loom they are almost impossible to undo. TC I wouldnt even attempt Z, for the price and the way I use it, its disposable. My handmade gear on the other hand..
  16. Too true Mr Lloyd. Easy to bang out a couple of yards of net, fixing it is another thing.. I want to learn so I can repair as it happens and not end up with hank that looks like its been hacked at with scissors, like some Ive seen. I dont get big numbers, so everyone counts... Ive seen that text before TC, its just as confusing now as it was then.. I`ll have to have a sit down and re-read it a few times. Helps if you have the stuff in front of you too I spose.
  17. I`ll never feed Doc`s to a ferret again, apart from being eggs in a fluffy shell, I caught salmonella off them when I was 21, which resulted in a week of sickness and diarrhea, then a trip to the doctors, then hospital, then a finger (felt like a thumb) up my jacksie and finally my appendix out, only to get ill again when I left hospital.. I was a bit rough that month
  18. Nah, like someone said, they can use whats available, but have to show how they got to their answer.. I dont think googling would count though. Feck , I couldnt do it with a calculator and a calender
  19. You probably would be better bagging it and let it rot first, let some of the nitrogen break down..

  21. Hey up!! Been a member for a few years now, and the same old questions/queries come up time and time again, I dont know how the wise reply with the same vigour time and time again to help folk out. Its amazing. The things I`ve learned to make.. Now I`m not after a "how many" or "where, or what twine" I would really love to take it further with a repair sticky... How do you mend the net, hand made nets that have taken "beard`s" to make? This requires a little more than an answer on a postcard...
