Never seen one mate, but back in the day, I thought that was the solution. I took a deerhound bitch to the whippet racing champ Rhine Gold, but the bitch was not behaving and the dogs owner was rightly worried about the dog being injured, so it all came to nought.I still wonder what might have been.

I think the tenant has the right to control rabbits, unless those rights are signed over by the tenant. Now I don't no if this works in reverse, ie, if the tenant fails to control rabbits the responsibility may ultimately lie with the land owner, I would think he has the power to insist the rabbits are controlled on his land. I would definitely have a word.

If you don't think the Fens are hot then I don't know what to say to you. Operation Countryman is a 24 hr , on going thing with no expense spared. Still I suppose everyone should find out for themselves. if you do go, go in an old banger ,be prepared to say good bye to it ,and your dog, if it comes on top. I dread to think what its like now mate, it was hot 20 yrs ago, Hardly ever went without at least one run in with cops or land owners, as I said ,spent many unhappy hour sat in a cell, Boston springs to mind, 10 hrs I spent, I think Leonard G got out a bit before me. Them was the d

I had one years ago , dandyhow breeding it was , ended up too hard , would just plough in and kill fox before you had time to pick up a shovel. they are sensitive and slow starters, as a rule you need patience.

It's a few years now since I ran the fens, used to go down twice a week, got locked up a few times, just walking the dog don't wash when your 200 miles away from home. When your stood out on them fens in the middle of nowhere , you feel about 1" tall and that the whole world can see you.

I might be inclined to trust you on that but I have no knowledge of course cuz I dont live there. How do you rate them though bred to a bullxgreyhound? I can't comment on that cross mate, never tried it. Tried pure deerhound and first crosses, found them disappointing, moved on to saluki crosses and can't think why anyone would not want them. Fair enough. We dont do alot of criss crossing over here really so I know nuttin about "lurchers" but just cant see why a dog like that wouldnt work. We just don't have the open spaces for such big dogs as deerhounds or first crosse

Bit of a sweeping statement, that ! I've seen deer x's doing everything that other x's can do, and sometimes more, up here in Northumberland....and BTW, I'm a big Saluki fan, so no breed blindness here ! LOL ! Cheers. No kennel blindness here mate, I don't own a running dog at present. I speak from experience, having ran a pure deerhound and bred and ran first crosses. I don't doubt there will be the odd exception, there always is, but that's what they are, the odd exception. If they are so good where are the first crosses, they were tried and tested and found wanting, so they fell

I only spoke of first crosses mate.

Too true mate, if it ain't got a large dollop of saluki in it ,it ain't worth the trip down there.

I'll upset a few folk now, talking first crosses only, if you want something that looks great and moves amazingly, then get one ,if you are serious about hunting , forget it. They're either too big for what your hunting in this country, or if hunting something big, they're not agile enough.

I would ban old women of all ages and both sexes, who's only pleasure in life is, to stop other people doing whatever it is, that makes them happy.

what you been feeding them on.

Obviously folk are leaving comment without any knowledge or experience, I have no pure ferrets left , why ,because my crosses are superior. They are handled daily from 4 to 12 weeks of age, as were my ferrets. I find that doing this, it matters not how often they are handled after this , they stay tame. As for making money, I didn't breed last year or this, as I don't need any more , and that's the only reason I breed.I did sell one as a child's pet a couple of years ago , and it was handled and approved by both kids and parents before I let it go. I also spoke to a woman who rescued some wild

rough coated saluki x greyhounds
romany52 replied to COURSING BITCH's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Neither Merlin or Eve were smooth coated. -
Read on the net somewhere, about someone in the northeast that ran gwp crosses, there were pics as well, and it looked and sounded like they were doing the job well.

What you need to remember is that after the first cross (50/50),all other percentages are only theoretical due to the random nature in which the genes are passed. Say a greyhound dog was put over a bull x saluki bitch, the bitch passes both bull and saluki genes randomly, so some pups could be mostly greyhound/bull and some mostly greyhound/saluki + others with a more balanced combination of the bull and saluki genes. As you can see all the pups are 50% greyhound but the other % is variable so for hare coursing the pups would be variable, some undoubtedly good but some less so.

If you've got to feed dry, then soak it as has been said .I've seen folk loose ferrets at that stage on dry, they can't get enough liquid from the jill and some bottles don't let out water fast enough, they get fed up of drinking before they've had enough.

Gettin my 8 month old pup to jump
romany52 replied to Rain's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
If it's kennelled put a 6" board across the gate, it's got to jump to get out, then make it a bit higher every couple of days .It'll be jumping before it realizes. -
Why the interest mate, do you know of a litter. I work a gsp bitch, often thought it would make a good cross with a greyhound. My bitch is a very clever hunter, she will stalk low to the ground and go out of her way to stay low behind any cover or undulations in the ground, with endless stamina, they would make great lamping dogs.

No offence taken mate, sorry if it sounded that way, It's just that this time of year I've got time to be on here and get out and do a bit of flying. I like flying early evening this time of year. atb.

It all depends what genes the polecat is caring, if the polecat is homogeneous, meaning it caries two polecat colour genes, then all the offspring will be polecat coloured as the wild colour gene is dominant to sandy. The polecat or the sandy can be heterogeneous meaning it caries two different colour genes ,in which case the polecats gene could be paired with any colour gene recessive to polecat, and like wise the sandy, so unless you know the genetic make up of the parents it's impossible to predict.
