1. I'm a bit lexdicsic. and I've fed easllugs to my ferrets.
2. Thing is you want 100% recall, dog needs to believe it has no choice whatsoever, only way to do this is get the dog to you when he really doesn't want to. If you persuade him with treats, all you've done is changed his mind so he wants to come, any dog will come when it wants to. A dog fully trained comes when it doesn't want to. The only way to enforce the recall command is the line. Mike.
3. You need to apply the same principle to recall as you would to, say the sit. To train the sit you'd give the command then gently push the back end down into the sit position then reward. So using the same principle with the dog on a long line, give the command ,gently haul it in then reward. Avoid calling the pup in any situation where you know it won't obey for awhile, just go to the pup. Remember it's repetition, so every time you give a command that the pup disobeys you're training not to obey,in the early stages never give a command you cant enforce. Mike.
4. He's not that little ferrethopper. And he is a lot more than a rabbit dog, lol.... Ask loftie... There have been quite a few dogs now gone with him to have there first encounters.. ferreter far from it the dog will handle any work put in front of him i'd have him on my yard very tidy animal he's a credit to you russ you prick you not read what i said, i got a better dog here maybe not better now but in his day unstopable, genuine heartbreak a real beddy grey no beardie in this boy. i'd go as far as saying he was a machine in his day unstopable single handed every time even with an
5. I ran the Snowdon race a couple of times in the 's, it's held in July. On one occasion it was 27 deg C on the field at the start, just before the start came an announcement on the pa, warning it was 4 degrees at the top, and it was , it was bloody freezing .
6. Train your dog to do it's business on command, that's what I did , it works a treat. How! you might ask , well take the dog out when you know it should need to go and watch it closely, you can tell when they start going through the preliminaries, when it starts looking like it's about to go start repeating the command, I say look sharp, till its doing it , then praise while it's still in full flow. When it's finished give it a good fuss, do this for awhile, it will soon get the hang of it. Mine will try and go again strait after if I give the command, it's great last thing at night or for car
7. Hybrids are 50/50 and are incapable of reproducing on the whole due to being sterile, so very very difficult to get a low content hybrid. On this and the thread on black ferrets claims have been made to X's occuring in the wild others mention wild polecats being different to ferrets when caged? Would nt any animal bred in the wild be different having been captivated and restricted from roaming? Just because its been caught in the wild does n't make it a naturally occuring wild animal IMHO Can anyone provide absolute evidence of these X's taking place in the wild? Afterall crows and rooks,
8. You're right didn't notice it's age, can't even get a proper trial till December at least. So reckon he'll be keeping it for now, come to think about it, if it was as good as the price suggests,he wouldn't even be trying to sell this time of year.
9. I chuck any carcasses in whole, guts and all.
10. Or win a couple of good matches, and you've made a profit. or lose and be even more out of pocket! You'd obviously have to see it run then make your own judgement , it's either well worth the money or it isn't, but if the quality is there it's not over priced, you'd have to pay that for some pedigree pups. I turned down a £1000 for a dog 30 years ago.
11. Or win a couple of good matches, and you've made a profit.
12. yer but there f****rs to handle haha youd have fun with one of them but it wont only be the rats getting chomped on Mine are as easy to handle as Ferrets.
13. Give 'em time mate, they don't always go by the book
14. EU Polecat crosses don't jack.
15. Same old story. Yeh, this one's for the workers who toil night and day By hand and by brain to earn your pay Who for centuries long past for no more than your bread Have bled for your countries and counted your dead In the factories and mills, in the shipyards and mines We've often been told to keep up with the times For our skills are not needed, they've streamlined the job And with sliderule and stopwatch our pride they have robbed [Chorus:] We're the first ones to starve the first ones to die The first o
16. Well said mate, the smart arsed twats always say you earn respect, that's bollocks, everyone deserves respect from the off, even though they can quickly loose it.
17. As close as I've seen very nice ferrets on this topic Just to clear things up ,I can't take the credit for these last two, they are not mine , the first two are of my own ferrets but the second two were off the net, just to show that they can be very dark. Mike.
18. Young, clean pet quality , about £10 per bird.
19. Not black selfs but pretty dark.
20. Mine are not black, never called them black, they are dark polecat x ferret hybrids. Don't believe proper self blacks exist.
21. Depends very much on the quality mate.
22. I saw a rabbit in the pet store last week,it was labelled a giant house rabbit. How much do you reckon it was ? £125!!!!
23. I only breed when I need to, I'll sell the surplus.By the time I've handled them daily from 4 to at least 12 weeks, fed them ,cleaned the shit up and basically taken great care to breed decent ferrets, if folks aren't prepared to pay £15 then they don't get 'em, plus if folks aren't prepared to pay more than a fiver ,they are hardly likely to look after them properly. A lot of the folk that come say they can get them for a fiver, but oddly enough they still take them at £15, so work that one out.
