  1. very true mate ,but i find i dont come across it as much nearer the end of september.not saying it couldnt happen though. Its also going to be dependant on location - remember you are a lot further north than me, so the weather here will be milder later and hence young will be seen later. We notice a difference between our mountain top / hill top permissions and those in the low land.
  2. Never met a shooter who stood up for the dogmen when we were getting banned..... naa, I'm happy with what I'm allowed to hunt with my dogs and if the government deem that rearing birds for the sole purpose of shooting them for fun isn't really hunting....... Then they are on their own. whats going to happen if the government ban shooting as well,no pheasant rearing,no grouse moors no land management, then the countryside will be fecked.say goodbye to wildlife, build more housing estates, etc, etc Don't kid yourself. Farmers do more to the countryside than any shoot. How many shoots are
  3. A very good post as always DW, i think it is about having limits and knowing when enough is enough. There have been many folk who have lacked that since time began, but perhaps the tools of their trade limited the extent to which their over excess could run. Its about control not eradication. . . . . . something so many fail to understand. I also agree with your point about Urban foxes, they are on the rise, but i'm not sure how many DO head off to the country side. . . . .food is harder to find, the dangers are greater and its not 'their world'. As for squeaking them in and the

  5. To the above two posts, this wasn't JUST about shooters, despite the title of the post. . . . . its about the combination of other methods, especially in the hands of people with a lack of respect or the sense when enough is enough. But it is about these with the ADDED pressure of shooting which is MASSIVELY on the rise. Also it must be taken into account that with shooting, unlike dog based sports there is no point at which you must stop due to your method of dispatch being a bit tired or knocked about. And going out day after day with the same 'tool' is harder. Also shooting is just far more

  7. To say ANY amount of culling will not get rid of them is just silly. silly but true. they have tried and tired and still have the same numbers of litters.foxes clearly found their natural level. theyare not doing it for fun , they are doing it profesioanlly to get rid of foxes on that esate. its not just this easte either, it happens up and down the country. culling will obviously reduce numbers(till nxt year) but in no way will make foxes "run out" there is a very well known phrase, "the more you kill the more will be there next season" Ok. . . . what i meant is th
  8. There is also folk on here who turn posts around so that dogmen come out in a bad light..... If thats aimed at me your an idiot mate. I am a dog man, and would never shoot a hare with a rifle or any other kind of gun. However its about having a balanced / sane point of view and not being blinkered in your argument otherwise folk will tear it apart and it wont be worth shit. My point was that MANY dog men would have respected the land and quarry and not have stripped it bare, as would many shooters, however all areas of hunting have now been flooded with ignorant folk with no respect

  11. As crimes comitted by individuals go thats got to be right up there. . . . . does the july bombings count as a crime. . . . . they were also pretty dark. The disappearance of Madeline Mackan. . . .that was a lot of police time and money etc. But probably the most money and time from police went toward some kind of financial or economical crime, like those guys who rinsed a load of money from the banks and fled.
  12. Most of the worst crimes were never and will never be investigated . . . . . . they were committed by our governments and big businesses.
  13. . . . . . and if it was aimed at shooters, put it in the shooting section rather than just trying to start some kind of internal war on the dog section.

  15. Exactly mate. . . . also keepers etc have other things to do than go out 5 nights a week shooting foxes all night, sportsmen are often more zealous than keepers in their shooting. Keepers also tend to keep down other folk shooting etc, whereas farmland is often a free for all with multiple groups targeting the same land. Many pieces of land are shot over everynight of the week. There is also another thing about shooting foxes at night with a rifle on big flat land. . . . . its f*****g dangerous. . . . . . ..
  16. To say ANY amount of culling will not get rid of them is just silly.

  18. It's not late in anyway what so ever, and completely normal, the rabbits dont all immediatly stop breeding as soon as September 1st comes around just to make life easier for ferretters. They will breed on until the weather becomes too harsh to raise a litter and then some will still have a go. But yes they HAVE been all over the place - i.e finding kits late october / early feb due to climatic / weather change.
  19. There are definatly things you can do to make them work better . . . . .
  20. Thats very sad and happens all over the place. However there are also plenty of dog men, many on here who would have gone back night after night trying to run them all on the lamp and in a little more time would have achieved the same result. Hunting in general is REALLY going down hill.
  21. Sadly now this only only true for probably less than half of hunters. What ruins it is the idiots adding fuel for the antis.

  23. "Since the banning in England, Wales and Scotland of hunting with hounds, wildlife managers have regrettably been forced to rely more heavily on the less humane methods of control namely snaring and shooting." "The majority of foxes culled in the UK are shot using a rifle. Wounding rates using a rifle can be up to 48% and for a shotgun as high as 60%. Killing rates increase but wounding rates do not decrease with the skill of the marksmen" "Hunting provides a vital search and dispatch system for detecting wounded and diseased animals in the countryside." "Shooting carries the subst
  24. Very interesting. Is anyone counting the ones that are killed though? Surely those estimates don't take into account the number hunted accurately?
