    Not being funny r.e the original question. Will they be any good. Easy answer mate. Are the parents any good at whatever you want, if so, yes probably if you do your job. If the parents are average, you got you work cut out.

Just think 11 hrs a day 5 days a week cooped up on your own inside is gonna do the dogs head in more than too many walks etc. Your opinion /my opinion matey.....its drivel to you, fair enough......I know what I see, but hey, I am nobody, everyone is free to crack on however they wish The relevant bit, as I see it, is this......he is being told that he has to totally fit his life around the dog when IMHO you dont

    Both very good points. I guess your right. For me it's like aaron said, i wouldn't even entertain getting a dog if i lived a lone and i was going to be at work that much and the dog doing f**k all. 11 hrs a day work in the week, plus sleep, plus any other life you have and any time you need to go away without the dog. Just doesn't seem much point for the dog in existing, it's just cos the person fancies one. Maybe i'm wrong, but like you said, it's a pack, i'm boss, the dogs are lesser pack members, but in order to operate as an efficient pack, we need to be around each other a fair bit consis

    Obviously in some senses numbers do count, such is in competitive coursing. The higher number wins, but it doesn't ALWAYS mean that the 'better' dog won. When it comes to hunting and comparing its just hot air. You see 50 rabbits and get 30 runs with an average dog and you'd hope to pick up at least 10, but get a half dozen long, tough slips and take 4/5 and that's a better dog. Also i'd rate a dog that can find, track, hunt and catch on our 'big' land (not the flat fen land), much much higher, than a lamper, no matter the numbers involved. But that's a personal preference.     Also JPTblahblah, if this geezer who has been into dogs since he was 12 is one of the countries best dog men, then surely he has met a lot of decent dog trainers / handlers, and to be fair i would find it hard to believe that a 19 year old is the best he has met. Maybe for your age, aye, but like most things (probably more so), as much as a lot has to do with who you are as a person. . . . . . you aint gonna beat the person who is the 'right' type of person AND has been doing it forty years. No offence.

    Without being funny and i don't want to get in the way of any 'my dogs the dog and i'm the big man' egos, but there is a bit of a difference between the dog knowing who is boss and the idea of locking the dog in the house on its own for 11 hrs a day 5 days a week minimum. That's not that 'natural' for a working dog. They are different things in my opinion.

    How come folk are always talking about this DVD of a load of foxes getting lamped but never of the 'foxing on the fells' where they are being actually hunted with lurchers.

    Shows are ok, but why the f**k would you want to take your dog, hot sun, lot's of people, standing about doing f**k all on a lead. Great times.

    I think what folk are trying to say is that it isn't a lurcher in the sense that a lurcher is any cross bred running dog containing both pure sight hound blood and any non sight hound blood. Also traditionally, for a ferreting dog, a bit of pace (coming from the sight hound) is usually a key ingredient. However i had a pure collie that was spot on and seen some very good mongrels at the game. Would love to see a vid of it working next season.
