  1. muddy bottom pike tend to almost be submerged in the mud and might not move much for a long time if its still enough id try deads fished under a unloaded pencil set at depth so float lays flat (just) then when you get a pick up it will stand up then move off. fish with minimum weight on the trace or just above so bait sins slow and settles on top of mud and twitch back to cover lots of water, also try popped up baits set to above the depth of the mud. keep moving, good luck
  2. nice to hear of someone being responsible in this game for a change
  3. my mate has the 12ft portabote, go out on the trent on it piking. its really good mate, they are pricey but much better than an inflatable in my opinion. the bottom flexes when you stand on and it takes a little getting used to standing and casting in it but its really stable. i would have one if i had the cash. just loads better than inflating one on the bank and you dont have to tow anything and can be stored dead easily. but if you have the room for a proper solid boat on a trailer id do that, get a lot more for your money.
  4. traditionally i think its autumn thru to early winter mate, but get some later runs also. too late now id say.
  5. thats the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard, my heavy lad outruns my mates saluki whippetx coliier whippet for the first half mile or so anyway! lol. doesnt have the wind for them long runs but they aint bred for that. cant turn as well but not bad for his size.
  6. chain smoking whilst lamping? im almost too excited and dont have a hand free to smoke, do when back at car or rest stops etc. lol

  9. personally i think the fishing forum is quiet enough as it is and needs more peoples attention not splitting it up, be barely anything on each section
  10. its old and used, wouldnt say cheap only 8 quid more for a brand new one with new bands
  11. 1,keep mobile, move every half hour or so, if you catch a jack or two consider waiting for a big girl in that swim. 2, try baits on the deck and mid water, trotted deads or paternoster float deadbait rigs work well for me. 3, try all areas in each swim, pike layed up in wait will often not move more than 6 foot or so for a meal 4, keep trying!
  12. where are you mate? plenty in the trent dont have to go too far south!
  13. its not just about spending all the time with them tho mate, they need a good bond with you and they need downtime (away from you) as much as they need to be with you. and you need to be just and fair they wont take being unjustly punished. they need to know your the boss at all times but like north terriework says never get violent, never raise your hand to them, althought hey seem to have the hardman image now and lots seem to think if its bull it will have a hard tough temprament i have found the opposite i find them very sensitive and easy to mess up and get them not trusting you, they are
  14. well done on the pup mate, NOW STOP HUNTING IN THE SUMMER!
  15. good advice that mate, training aint worth a shit without that bond imo. my dog is the same for first run or two, he has too much drive for his own good so i always start my night on some not so good land near where i intend to work him just to get the first couple of silly runs out of him so he calms down and then onto the serious land so he doesnt ruin it all by running it all on the first run hunting after. he is getting better think a lot of it is down to me not getting him enough work and him still being young
  16. also been a ,mild winter so far might have summit to do with it

  20. i have to say my lad is coming up to 2 and a half now and just recently i have had to watch him with other dogs, he doesnt tend to start a fight but if one is developing he certainly isnt going to back down. until recently he would of legged it or not been bothered thinkin the other dog just wanted to play. im not sure if this is down to where i live now, we rarely see other dogs on walks now where as before i was walking him through a park most days and he'd see plenty other dogs. lamping on his own is a real pleasure will walk off slip after couple of runs, well behaved quiet. but with m
