  1. Incredibly smart birds, apart from the Carrion Crow on Sunday that took such umbrage to my crow decoy at the back of a pigeon pattern, it landed 10 meters away from me, screaming, then abruptly stopped when it met an FX pellet! Amazed it didn't see me raise the gun, chamber the pellet and let it fly, as I was sitting at the bottom of a tree but with little cover between it and I! I'm going to try using a cheap brown toy rabbit cut open, some sausages, a couple of crow decoys and some tomato ketchup, with a little bit of Blue Peter magic next, to see if I can get corvids to flock to it
  2. Have a good time out there! Thanks for all the advice since I joined.
  3. Send it off to a reputable tuner and they should be able to work wonders, the great thing about these guns is that although they are pretty good to begin with, with a tune they are awesome! I spoke to Sandwell Field Sports about a tune the other day and was quoted a bargain at £65.00. It really is money well spent.

  5. that's a great looking place mate.
  6. AA S410 TDR .22 and a whole bunch of whispered swearing!
  7. Brilliant stuff mate and awesome scope cam work
  8. That's great shooting mate! Great write up as well. Thanks
  9. Blinding, thanks for that mate! Having recently moved from 177 to 22, I've found that I really need to work on those hold overs/unders... 177 was a lot more forgiving! Will be getting a mildot scope just as soon as I can! Also bought a tin of FX pellets for my AA S410 TDR, after the chap in the shop talked me out of my usual accupells in a hilarious fast show style! (oooh no sir, not a good pellet sir.)I'll let you know how they fair! Thanks again, really useful.
  10. Good luck with that!! Looks fantastic on film. I've just been requested to have a bash at the rooks on my permission that hang out near the pheasant feeders. The syndicate stop shooting next Saturday and i'll be starting in earnest next Sunday. Any tips you can lend on getting them in to 12ftlb range (if you can remember how us lesser mortals live lol!) would be gratefully received!
  11. Just to say thanks for all your posts and bits of advise Wuzzy. I only found this site in October but held your thoughts in high regard.
  12. Could be worth a go. www.pyramydair.com/site/manuals/logun-s16/S16_manual_03.pdf
  13. My HW77 .177 is older than a unified Germany (21 years)!! It was given to me 5 years ago. It's still blinding, accurate to a pin and was chrono'ed at 11.5 ftlbs! In my opinion you'd probably be able to get a decent second hand HW77 + scope and still have plenty of change for pellets etc on your budget. Weirauchs in general are built like tanks so stand the test of time, but there are plenty of other full power springers out there that you could consider both new and second hand, with the same or better delivery than the guns you mentioned.
  14. Mate, that's the nuts on your first visit! great reading it! Thanks!
  15. Hi mate I've been in your situation before and found that -177 just doesn't stop pigeons as easily as .22 As Davey advise's, go forth noggin or if they are in a trees ain at the crop from underneath. good luck with it!
  16. Hi mate HW77's are awesome. I love mine and doubt I will ever part with it. I have a PCP as well but the HW77 has a 'soul' in my opinion! As for bringing one back from Portugal it shouldn't be a problem, as long as it is under 12ftlbs. Best thing to do is give the BASC a call. They have a great legal dept. they gave me great advise on an AYA pair I was bringing over from Spain.
  17. Thanks guys, I'll give them a go on Friday, really appreciate your thoughts!
  18. Hi all After missing a few easy shots on Saturday, much to my own annoyance. I went to re zero the scope which gave me really tight groups at 30 meters, so I figured it was me. Before I went out again, I re charged the gun to the recommended 190 bar and had another couple of shots. It took 8 - 10 shots falling an inch and a half below, before the pellets begun to rise and hit the bull with the expected accuracy. I've read on here that the first couple of shots can be a bit under pressure, but 8 - 10? Is this normal and if so, is there a way of lessening the amount of under pressure sho
  19. Gaining permission is all about technique, confidence and rapport building. If you know of footpaths going through land, then walk them, look for signs of damage from rabbits or for pigeons dropping on to crops. Then, making sure that you are dressed appropriately (Smart casual), knock on the door of the landowner, introduce yourself politely, show him your understanding of vermin control by mentioning what you've observed and where, then ask in a non aggressive manner if you could try and bash them one morning/afternoon. Only ask for the one time, don't push it at this stage, you may be
  20. That's awesome mate!! I went back to Air guns from Shotguns and haven't looked back. The skill is far greater and the challenge, far more rewarding! Great stuff!
  21. Great shooting mate. Having not now been out since Saturday due to the inconvenience of work, I'm beginning to feel a bit cooped up! Your permission looks like a great spot as well! Better luck next time with your Scope cam. I'm looking forward to the footage!
  22. Here you go mate! Try the patterns on the below link, or just search the pigeon shooting section on here (same thing!). It's enough to bring them in, even if you are only using shell decoys. If you're near a sitty tree (easy to spot by just watching the flight patterns) then they will almost definitely land in the tree, even if they're a bit nervous of the decoy pattern it's self and you can have plenty of pickings shooting them there and you get more time to aim. www.thehuntinglife.com/html/sections/articles/images/decoy-pattern1 I've discovered timing is everything in decoying.
  23. I considered an S410c before my wife got me the TDR. It comes with a great silencer and as for scopes, at air rifle ranges, I don't see the point in spending a fortune. I'm using accupells and loving them!
  24. Went out today after pigeons following yesterdays success. Not such great results in quantity, I think yesterday spooked them, but four shots produced four dead pigeons! I was pretty chuffed at that as the pigeon waves of yesterday had turned in to a ripple. In answer to billybroon, with a measly two photos due to battery failure (moron,) I spread the decoys with a gap of about 1.5 - 2 meters between them using 3 at the side of the back of the pattern closest to the hide, to look like closely bunched pigeons together, feeding in the same area (see photo). I don't know if it makes a differ
