  1. That really is the mutts nuts!
  2. Great shooting mate! I don't know an awful lot about Hatsan's. I was seriously thinking of buying an AT44X-10 PCP, which seemed very reasonably priced for what you get, but was put off by the dealer who wasn't that enthusiastic about them. I've read some UK reviews and it seems the jury is still out. How do the PCP's stack up in your opinion? Thanks James
  3. May be a point and something I was certainly unaware of, the two pubs I've approached thought idea was good and happy to go participate, they never mentioned it.
  4. Thanks guys Your not wrong stealthy1 and to be honest I find downing pigeons and crows etc far more challenging than rabbits so really feel I've earned the meals. Not wishing to sound catty towards anyone who has recently posted on here, but the challenge in pigeon shooting with an air rifle is immense, I imagine if I'd taken my AYA no.4 with me the bag would have been a lot greater than three but the satisfaction a lot less! Hi phantom, I remember you mentioning not to colour in the crow decoy a while ago and heeded the advice on Sunday. Is it better to colour the whole decoy in t
  5. bit long winded so bare with me.... OK, most people who have tried to gain new permission from a cold start are using the time honoured 'Knock on door, mention vermin you have seen on land, ask about pest control, prove credentials, insurance etc, offer free service' approach. There is nothing wrong with this and if you play the numbers, it will eventually work, although, apart from ridding himself of a few bunnies and an extra pair of eyes, what does the land owner get in return for trusting a total stranger with his land and how do you know your not the 5th person that week to offer simi
  6. Once upon a time, long ago... AKA Sunday afternoon! Having bought a UV pen and with a healthy amount of scepticism, I followed the advice on here the other day and painted a UV ring round the neck and two rings, 1/3rd and 2/3rd's down the bodies of both my shell and full bodied decoys. I set out again on Sunday afternoon to the rape field, discarding the Pill Box idea and deciding instead to set up, down wind of a Sitty tree along a hedge line. After about an hour and having had very few pigeons land but plenty fly over and dip but not turn, I was getting bored and figuring where I
  7. Brilliant read and clearly a blinding night! You're so right about seeing things other people just don't get to see. Most people rarely see a sun rise let alone one like you describe!
  8. I've got 4 air guns and used ton have all four attached to the spare room wall with wall locks like these www.sportsmk.co.uk/item/706/. I now have them in a rack I inherited, with a chain through the trigger guards.
  9. FX pellets are well worth the money, all though I've seen them priced anywhere from £9.99 - £15.50. Quite a difference but a bang on pellet. I was using Accupells before hand and thought they were great, but wouldn't hurry back.
  10. I've got one between my HW77K and the Lightning XL. Not really that hot in comparison to either one of it's neighbours, but it was a gift to my wife from a friend of hers. Yeah, thanks for that.....
  11. 1 is better than none and I've had more than a couple of those when rabbiting recently! The weather is looking good for us in the south Davy! bring it on!
  12. I'm with Jack on the clobber washing front.. Apparently, the chemicals that make your whites whiter also make your DPM/Camo brighter to pigeon (UV Theory) and the smell puts rabbits on alert from hundreds of meters away. If I do need to wash my clobber then I avoid washing them with clothes detergent and just boil the crap out of them! Regarding gun maintenance, it's an oily wipe down after use and a once a tin barrel clean. Nothing over the top! I lube pellets with power lube for the HW77 but that's more out of optimism than anything else. I once washed a tin of Pellets, but
  13. Hi Mate I wouldn't put it past them, they're pretty damn hard! I see them around quite a lot over the warrens, but I haven't seen one make off with a rabbit yet.n = I'm going to try using a WW2 Pill box (The farm is littered with them) as a hide for a bit more pigeon bashing this weekend. My In laws have given two guys with shoty's and a pigeon magnet an open permission to have a crack at the pigeons. Need to get my numbers up! That said, last Saturday they scored two, having reckoned on 50 - 100! I got 8 having promised to do nothing more than scare them! I'll let you know how I g
  14. Bit weird, all that anger. A clean shot is a clean shot and both methods of shooting use a specific skill set to achieve the result effectively and humanely. No farmer I know, and I certainly know a few, will complain if the end result is the same! The choice of tool comes down to preference and I choose Air Rifle, partly through choice and partly through pragmatism. That said, I'm going to give the UV pen a bash, I also heard from sib it was worth it!
  15. Just had a really amazing couple of hours. 'She who rules' needed picking up from work for an afternoon appointment, meaning that I could escape the office to work from home. 'Her Majesty' then had a driving lesson for two hours which meant I could sneak over to the farm to have another pop at the pigeons! Awesome start already! Got on to the rape and set up a decoy pattern about 15 meters down wind of a sitty tree in the hedge line, then retreated to a favourite hide to wait. There were literally hundreds of sky rats in great flocks, belting down the tree line and over the patten bu
  16. I shot a pigeon as it came in to land with my S410, pure fluke as I was just following it in, then flinched due to a twig falling and pop, one pigeon dinner! Never to be repeated fluke!
  17. Sweet gun mate! Awesome find in the shed! My HW77k had a bit of rusting and was removed easily enough. The simple answer re differences in .177 and .22 is that a .177 pellet is smaller and will travel in a faster, flatter line, hence less adjustment (hold over/under) required for shots closer or further from your set zero. .22 is a bigger pellet with more energy transfer on impact but requires more adjustment in aim on targets closer or further from your set zero but the extra stopping power has been preferred by hunters in the past. I shoot with both and they both do the job! It's
  18. as with Festa, without sounding sh1ty, I would start off by joining a club rather than getting permissions at your stage. www.woodendfarmcomplex.co.uk for example It will give you chance to really hone your skills and set yourself realistic expectations and boundaries. Also, it will give you the chance to meet others who may have permissions and after a while, offer you the chance to join them. It's clear from your posts that you haven't done a lot of Air Gun shooting before and that you have a high expectation of your abilities. There's nothing wrong with that, confidence is al
  19. always found them a cracking pellet in .177 for rabbits, not as good with pigeons though and that was with my trusty old hw 77.
  20. Hi mate I have one in .22 and love it. So far, out to 45 yds it's as deadly on rabbits as it is on rats at 15 yds. Only things I would mention are the getting used to it because it is so light (took a while for me to be able to get used to not having the sturdy support of 11lbs of kitted out HW77k.), and the feel of it compared to a standard stocked rifle. Apart from those two minor bits, they're awesome, with very few compromises made to incorporate the TDR. I'd go get one today!
  21. I saw a video demonstration of those at the Arms fair in Earls court, just unbelievable what they can do in the right hands. Also had a play with some of the South African anti armour rifles. Terrifying to be on the receiving end I imagine, even if it misses, the hole next to you would give most people a second thought! I made a lame quip about coming in handy for rabbits on the farm and after a quick humorlous saffa retort of 'No sir, you would not have the correct import license', left quickly. Amazing stuff though!
  22. Hi there and welcome! Can't go to far wrong with a venom HK. Mine's over 24 years old and still has eye watering accuracy. Rather more than eye watering if you happen to be the unfortunate rabbit receiver of it's attentions! Hope to hear more of your exploits!
  23. I'm with Phantom, a brilliant idea in theory but the practice would be something else.
  24. John Darling makes a brief reference to a high seat for rabbiting in a video but I haven't actually seen one. Would love to see your results!
