charlie caller replied to North Wales Hunter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Nice one for getting out and doing it kiddo, ignore the silly comments from the armchair hunting society -
Unbelievable!!!!!!! no wonder this site gets so much stick from others, why cant people sort out their petty rivalries in private? I thought as fieldsportsmen and women we were all supposed to be supporting each other to defend the things we hold dear, its this sort of nonsense that must have the antis who look at THL laughing their bloody socks off, really does make me wonder if I should continue as a member on here? not having a go at any individual, but please lads grow up

i have shot a 20ga for 30+yrs and in that time i have shot Hundreds of Geese. if you are planning to go on the Foreshore then i would use Tungsten Matix 3" 1-1/8 or Hevi Shot but these are both Very expenive if you going Inland Remmington 3" 1oz Steel or Saga Steel 7/8oz if you have the ability to shoot Geese in the Head 90% of the time Steel will do a GOOD JOB but to be fair on the Geese let them get WELL in range or use the TM and Hevi Shot ALL THE TIME. Good luck Thankyou very much, I will look into each one of these Cartridges with pleasure. Spot on advice mate whatever y

daihatsu fourtrak or subaru forester?
charlie caller replied to asbo93's topic in 4x4's, Quads & ATV's
Better mpg Idont think so fourtrack 2.8 td 35mpg scooby 20ltr petrol 25mpg if your lucky, also try running ur scooby on bio diesel or veg oil, which would make it much cheaper in the fourtrack, agree on rust tho daihatsu 35mpg i dont think so only way you save on diesel is if you introduce them to cherry and even if you did get it stopped and took of you it wouldnt be a great loss there the very worst ever Well Ihad amint low mileage fourtrack, sold it last year,an that would return 35mpg on a run, mechanicaly they are superb, chassis also brilliant, its the bodywork mountings that rot o -
Keep at it mate, its not easy round our way dude, but you will get some, might be worth not mentioning air rifle to start with, lots of farmers still regard em as toys, quite wrongly of course, just say you are looking for some shooting, the offer of a bit of work in return goes a long way sometimes too,I wish you the best of luck with it mate, let us know how your getting on after the weekend

26 inch barrel shotgun
charlie caller replied to phesant shooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Howdy mate yes have a 26 inch benelli fantastic gun I use improved cylinder and nowt else even for wildfowling, absolutely no probs at all mate, however its a semi auto so the actions are a bit longer so it does not feel short at all, what gun you thinking of getting mate? -
Lets just agree to disagree CC We'll always have different opinions on this one mate! the world would be a sad place if we all agreed on everything. Have to say though! Hunting folk should stick together however we feel about other people activities, we're all in this together with a Majority of do gooders out to try and take it all away from us. Time to swallow our pride and and fight from the same corner . I could not agree more, well said mate,be lucky

What, so im saying its ok to ban hunting with dogs am I??? dont think so,you did not read what I WROTE properly,I was refering to childish comments on deer stalking, and as for the side of the fence Im on OMG I thought we were all on the same side on here, just allowed to have a difference of opinion thats all,so ok we will agree to disagree then, warm barrels chaps,OOPS meant happy hawking.
-
no i dont agree show the public a 243 leaning on a roe and show them a spar on a blackbird and i wonder what they would say was wrong So I suppose they would prefer a blackbird drumstick in preference to a nice saddle of venison as well would they???? unreal, what utter rubbish
-
that just shows how much you know i am clean as a whistle no criminal record whatso ever so i could have a ticket permission i have been lucky to have quite a bit passed on to me by family members i dont drink so wont be in a pub and dont go in the stalking section because its not my cup of tea you dont fly birds yet your knocking our sport you wouldnt like me knocking your sport in your section so stick your nose elsewere ps you want to shoot guns join the army roe cant shoot back Well as a matter of fact I do fly a bird,a fhh,so I havent just moved over to have a bash at falconry as y
-
Ahh yes four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie,Im sure if I searched hard enough I could find a song relating to bear baiting,my initial reply to this topic was in no way intended to be a criticism of another mans sport, indeed I fly a fhh myself,it was however an attempt to point out that on the grounds of utility, actively seeking to catch blackbirds legal or not does falconry no good what so ever, despite accounts of dashing flights and other heroic deeds in blackbird hawking, they are harmless songbirds that are not used on the table and are not a pest, and there are lots of alternative foo

As an aside, I have just albeit quickly, been flicking through my extensive collection of books on hunting a broad spectrum of quarry, written by both the well healed and not so well healed, and none of the greats I.E. BB,KENZIE THORPE,BRIAN PLUMMER,MILLAIS, HAWKER,ECT,ECT,ECT,SEEM TO MAKE ANY REFERENCE TO HUNTING THE NOBLE BLACKBIRD, i CANT UNDERSTAND IT PERHAPS IN FUTURE IT WILL BE KNOWN AS THE BIG SIX TO INCLUDE THE MIGHTY BLACKBIRD,AND THE MC,NAB WILL NOT ONLY INCLUDE SALMON,GROUSE AND A STAG, BUT THE REAL TEST WILL BE YES, YOUVE GUESSED IT THE song thrush, get real lads eh.
-
Ok this is moving way off the mark, firstly I dont shoot roe with a .22 I use a .243. I only made that comparison to emphasise the point that in my humble opinion hunting something irrespective of legality that is neither a pest or a good food source just becouse it feeds your inflated ego about how wonderfull your bird is and enables you to talk tough from the corner of your mouth in the pub,is not good for our collective sports in general,if you guys think hunting blackbirds is good then so be it, personally the only blackbirds i want to hunt are the ones that look like beyonce, and as for th
-
Ok mick an honest reply I have never owned a spar myself, however I used to go out with an old boy years ago who flew nothing but spars,he was flying em when you had to apply for a permit to take a brancher from the wild,I saw his birds on magpies, pigeons, partridges, and jays, but never a blackbird in sight or at least I never saw them catch any,im with the seeker on this one if it aint vermin or smells good on my plate then why the hell hunt it? doing so legaly or not only brings the sport into disrepute and thats my point, after all you would not drop a roe buck at 200 yds and then leave it t
-
you can apply for a liscence to take them whats wrong with that very hard to catch but great flights all legit Ok I stand corrected, but having never had any interest in catching blackbirds I would not know although I did know you could catch larks under license,I just think legal or not its bad press for our sport, its easy to justify catching pest species, but blackbirds just for sport?? just my opinion,I think it puts us in a bad light.
-
Yes some good advice there chaps, but telling him to catch blackbirds???? how very f-----g responsible, unbelievable, bet the antis love reading this site, its advice like that that will get falconry banned,I despair
