  1. Like to see you out lamping with a gos,or hunting it from the soar I lamped a female Gos no different to lamping a Harris and how many people hunt a Harris from the soar. There will always be exceptions to the rule, but as arule a gos is not a lamping bird, and its a case of you get out what you put in,if people are happy just to fly from trees then thats fine, but a Harris can be one hell of a bird when taken to its full potential.
  2. A very underrated round indeed,3x the power of an hmr,at least, but to get the best from a hornet, you must reload for it, as most factory ammo, with the exception of hornady 35gn vmax is pretty pedestrian, and expensive, with a good handload the hornet is capable of dropping charlie out to 200yds,and long range rabbits/crows out further, and the real bonus is even with a hot load, you are only using around 12gns of powder, but if you get one and reload(essential)for the small aditional outlay, get the Lee case flare tool, and the factory crimp die,as these two items combined, will see groups shrink to c

  4. Well done sir you have spared yourself,a dreadful fate, enjoy it mate.
  5. Yep come on all you aspiring falconers, this is just what you need, very good offer mate.
  6. Aye I never thought of it like that, funny thing is I now get more satisfaction and enjoyment from providing the sport on a shoot day than I ever have from using a gun though that could just be cause I'm getting older lol You may just have a point there mate.
  7. I can see your point, but I would still rather get paid for foxing than a lot of other jobs I can think of
  8. If we are honest, dont we all combine the two?If I was a keeper, going out on a night to shoot foxes,I would still enjoy the sport,as a pose to lets say the man setting off for his night shift at a warehouse for instance.
  9. Why can't you ask the police? Yes it is a pain, but that's what everyone else has to do, keep asking the Police to check the land and the odds are they too will find it a pain. That's a good route to an unrestricted FAC! Might be stating the obvious here but have you actually checked if your other farms are passed?
  10. True oil would be the way to go bud,I bought a Boyds stock for my .243 last year,100% finished,no sanding at all and the groups tightened opon fitting, which floated the barrel,I was very pleased, and would reccomend Boyds to anyone.
  11. Sounds like a splendid idea mate, will deffo get on that one
  12. It has been pointed out to me has it,dont you think that is rather arrogant of you?if people wish to put foreward their OPINIONS,that is fine, but at the end of the day that is what they are,OPINIONS,and my opinion is that I am now getting rather tired of how far off track this thread has gone, but as before good hunting chaps, however you may practice it
  13. No I do not disagree with diversionary feeding if it serves a purpose, and the conclusion I draw from langholm, is that effective predator control, combined with(in this instance, diversionary feeding)can help to regenerate what was almost a barren moor, however, the origins of this thread seem to have been lost, and that is that mr nimrod should not be slating another field sport, becouse he is full of spite due to his own sport being taken away,as I stated in my very first reply, the man is a deerstalker, and unless he is practicing another form of the sport very different to my own stalking,he will
  14. That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it,however it is not one I share, thankfully.Good hunting.
  15. LOL, It makes ya think a bit doesn't it. As with most things it comes down to what sits right with your conscience, and that's not always logical. On that point we do agree, but thankfully I am neither ignorant or blind,I just dont happen to know/shoot/hunt with anyone who behaves like that I am pleased to say.
  16. You dont say what calibre you are hoping to get open,it will be easier to get say a .22lr opened after only two years than say a .308,it will depend to a large extent on how much ammo you have put through it,the best advice I can give you is if you can get a supporting letter from soeone who shoots open ticket with your calibre or above, saying that in there opinion you are suitable for the open condition, this will help you enormously, good luck.
  17. Well actually yes it is,(just kidding) I am afraid I have very little control over what my fellow sportsmen do,so yes I take your point,as I have stated I will always have a love for lurchers,(and have trained to a very high standard) and will perhaps have another one day,so I am not picking on lurchermen, however some of the critical comments do appear to have come from the artisan hunting camp, aimed at people who choose to follow a branch of field sports, using a firearm,at the risk of repeating myself, sour grapes,do seem to play a large part in what otherwise would be quite an interesting de

  19. I presume the ground nesting bird comment was aimed at me,well I can assure you on ground where I control the foxes,I also shoot a hell of a lot of corvids,a good amount of rats every year, and of course tree rats,so your argument about not addressing other predetors,(certainly in my situation)does not hold water, and are you trying to tell me that (obviously pre ban) that your man with his foxing lurcher, would pass up the chance to have a good run on charlie,on the grounds that they really did not need controlling on that particular bit of ground?get real, everyone has different rules and condi
  20. Nice offer there mate,to add to that I will be training a new bird this season,so as already stated if you are genuine,(and I am sure you are)pm me your number and you are welcome to come and have a go with me too,I am a little further away, in Sheffied but still not a million miles away,in fact (oh fu-k hes had an idea)why dont some of us lads that live reasonably close have a field meet of sorts this year, could work out well, lads with no birds doing the ferreting and we can show em the ropes and concentrate on on stopping the hawk from baiting or nailing the ferret, lol, also mate yorkshire
  21. Well yes it will, feeding OFF vermin, are you perhaps reffering to starving people eating rats or some other type of Vermin?how very confusing, please explain how I have contradicted myself,I think you have made yourself look rather silly there old boy,you know very well what I was talking about, the idiots who leave EDIBLE game to rot, instead of taking it home,of which according to certain people there must be loads in every village, and the countryside (obviously post ban)must be reeling at the reek of rotting cadavers, what a load of fu--ing nonsense. Quite clearly you know best fella. Than
  22. VERY well engineered rifles indeed,my .243 weatherby vanguard, will shoot a group at a hundred yards that can be covered by a 5p piece,if you get the new weatherby, it has the new match trigger fitted, and they now guarantee, moa accuracy, get one they are the best value rifle in the country, imho.ps they are the same rifle.
  23. Im not familiar with that particular model, but if its a Berreta,it should be a good gun, however,my advice would be,buy a second hand Benneli m1 you should get a mint one for 700ish, I have had mine from new 7 years now, and I can say hand on heart that it is the best shotgun I have ever owned, but whatever you but, thank the gods it wont be a hatstand.
