  2. My favourite all round cartridge was 6.5 30g clear pigeon - not sure who made them as I have not seen any lately. Out one day and a high pigeon came over - chose left barrel 3/4 choke 34g 5s + missed so I tried (in desperation) right barrel 1/4 choke 6.5 30g - result stone dead ! that was the day I found my favourite all round cartridge ! plenty of pellets for a full pattern. a more probable explination on the situation you discribed, its very common this happens, and it aint to do with size of shot etc... imo you / they , didnt / dont , swing enough on the first shot and missed b

  6. very good indeed. you will be taking a nice holiday in the sun with that lot v max brings up a good point regarding the does, the shoot where i work owns half the ground and leases the other half, both sides have different stalkers, we have taken a gold and a few bronze off ours over the last two years, the other side only manages poor 6 pointers at best, i keep telling him he needs to re think ( or should i say start one ) his cull plan on both bucks and DOES if he is to inprove his stock
  7. I think so too I dont think its a case of too much, more of a case of needing more exercise....Think of it like this if you've done any kind of strenuous sport, football, running etc it's like not having done these for a few weeks then going back in and running about like a maddie....the next day you'll be as stiff as a board and it takes a few days to get over it....but as you do more the muscles get used to it and there's less stiffness the next day...it's kinda similar for a dog that doesn't get used much especially one thats a bit older....you say you only go out once a week....wh

  17. well scent, as im one who posts very little about digging over the winter and have recently put up a thread about den time digging i thought id better put my thoughts on the subject on your thread.... birds arrive in late june, were dogging in and feeding from dawn till dusk, then by the time october comes the shooting is in full swing, so if were not getting ready for our own days then its off beating or picking up on other eststes, this goes on till the end of january... by the time we have been away for a holiday and cleaned up the estate , pens, feeders etc its almost the time of year
