I have no interest in the main subject but Chris is correct in that amphetamines were used heavily by all militaries. For sure the British military gave them to aircrews in WW2 and probably later. My father in Law was a doctor in the RAF, I'll ask him about this if I can remember to. -

The US has a big hold over the Chinese which it can use as a bargaining tool. The Chinese economy is quite flakey at the moment and any trade tariffs would probably cause it a fairly severe financial meltdown. They can use that to get some agreement with the Chinese. Imagine that the elites in Brussels and elsewhere know that there is going to be another recession, maybe they think it is going to bring about another economic collapse....would it not be prudent to import millions of people who will vote for a left wing, socialist big government party? Have I not been banging on about this for christ knows how long, these 'terrorists' are a proxy army that the powers that been think/know they can control but risk the occasional accident. Politicians or who ever actually runs things know exactly what they are doing and they know that occasionally there will be blow back. In the good old days they could make stories up about WMD or civil rights violations and we would fall for it, now they know we're less gullible or simply apathetic to what is going on abroad so they enable these groups to do their bidding for them.

Have you ever read anything about the Korean war? I didn't really know much about it because I grew up reading about WW2 and then we had the Falklands war when I was in Primary school so never paid it much attention. I have a very good book on that war as I always bought books which I would never read at home when I was on the way to work as I would have no choice but to read them. It sounds like the terrain is very challenging although back then NK had Chinese and Russian pilots and troops fighting with them.
