  1. How old is the dog??? I always start off my recall in the house believe it or not. I would spend time in the kitchen with the pup and always turn the training into a fun game for them. Whiling allowing pup to explore the room you can recall it without the fear of distraction and allow it to be fussed over and maybe a wee treat, this then extends out into the back garden, and then the field, it all depends on how old this dog is.
  2. Hi all Just a quick update on my pup. As this is my first Springer to train I have been reading a lot on the methods used in bringing on such a pup. I have her sitting on command with my hand and whistle, I have her on the recall, and she is spot on with her retrieving. Apart from what I am doing now, is there anything that I could or should be doing.
  3. Super nights lamping by any standard, them blitz 240 are the way forward for laming, well done.
  4. dont know why anyone would want to harm such a cute wee think
  5. If you ever repeat that mating, or hear of a well bred cross of similar breeding, please, give me a call. I find it hard to locate dogs bred like this, and bred for work. All the best Tusker I will keep an eye open for you, I know a lad that may be looking at putting his bitch in pup.
  6. Looks a fine big dog benny, think he will go bigger than my dog.
  7. anyone use them quick release ones, heard that they are crap.
  8. cracking looking dog, hope you have years of enjoyment.
  9. Dont think you can ever get enough, but your dog will soon let you know that he has had enough.
  10. Great bit of advice thanks. I too am training am Springer pup, she is 17 weeks and I have her sitting on one pip and recall on two, which she is doing great at the moment. I might add that I have trained many lurchers in my time; this is my first gun dog, so any tips would be appreciated. I have her retrieving a light lure at the moment; I give her a few pips on the whistle when she is in the process of retrieving, how fast should I progress with her training, and I would love to know what’s the best way to introduce her to the gun in the future. Many thanks
  11. I have tried many callers in my day, and the best by far is/was the UCaller, I have the new modle and it works a treat. The rabbit distress sound is second to none, I have had them come in from a far to this caller, its worth looking at. Now having said the above, I think that most companys who make these callers use the same sound card, hope this helps. Have a look at the caller on www.lractive.com.
  12. Just out of pure curiosity I would like to know what type of slips ye lads use, I know some lads prefer the quick release one, while others use the old loop to put your hand through, many moons ago when I was a young lad I use to use the slip in the pic, I seen a traveler lad using it and found it very handy and comfortable to use. Cheers.
  13. Smart looking dog, I had mine catching bunnies at 7 months and she is still going strong.

  17. this pup gets loads of attention she also has toys 2 keep her happy, plus she gets 2 short walks everyday!! Have to agree, the water is a great for shutting them up, I know what its like to have a pup that wont shut up, but as you know yourself it takes time for them to settle in and then its happy days
  18. Many thanks for your replies. Scent yes I bred him myself, from these two. Tusker there are plenty of deer x breeds for sale over here, its getting the right one is the problem, that why I bred for my own use.
