  1. Was just wondering on how you lads get the scent into ur Springer, she is seven months old now and am trying to get her to take the sent of the pheasant, is there a tried and trusted way of doing this. As you can see I leave a pheasant on her pen, also have wings wrapped round dummy, is this enough, or can you advise. Thanks.
  2. uesed to love watching benn, and also bruno, two priks, made me laugh. -
  3. always try to teach my lurchers from pups to have soft mouths, by means of holding meat in my hand and only allowing them to have it when they are ready to take it gently from my hand. Always using the work soft when the take the meat.
  4. Really looking forward to the Birr Castle event. On a more serious note, I take it that you have taken on board the numerous complaints regarding harassment at last years event and have taken steps to ensure that this unwanted infringement on ones right to enjoy the event without been hustled and harassed by certain members of our community, namely travelers. Can you please confirm what measure you have taken?? Look forward to the Show.
  5. With some sound advice from lads on here and this book, think I am well on thw way with my springer.
  6. Think myself that he is just trying to lift him out of the hole
  7. Realy depends on what you want th elurcher, do ya plan to breed further down the line, if not then a dog, but I prefer a bitch myself, simply because I find them more loyal and not as head strong as some dogs, thats just my opinion.
  8. Did ya fish Clay?????

  9. Just a quick heads up on the L.Key festival. I fished it over the two days and f**k was it hard, not a single run between either of us. A cracking 23 was taken on the first day by Joe McDermott and I think that was the winning fish, well done Joe. On the Sunday two more twenties were caught, so it was not a bad return for the two days. The weather was good, very sunny on the Saturday and light raining the Sunday which cleared up in the after noon, so well done to the lads who caught fish and look forward to next year.
  10. Built a bridge and get over it, I know its a pain in the nuts when you stick to the rules, but that slife, there is fcuk all ya can do about it, unless you have his number and ring him, only way these lads will be caught. Tight lines.
  11. Training is going well, I did have a huge problem with her not presenting on the retrieve, but after bending a members ear i think I am on top of top problem. I think my next major step is to introduce her to the gun, which is some time off yet, I have had in the field when lads were shooting in nearby fields and she seem ok with the noise, would hate to ruin her now, so its steady from here on in. Just a few pics of her on the retieve and sitting on command at distance.
  12. My pup is now seven months old and still in training, from what I can garther its best to get the pup training asap, nothing to hetic, sit and retrieve, I did the same with my pup when she was young and its seems to have stood her well. I am now at the stage where she will do most tasks, she is seven months old and with this been my first spring like yourself I was keen to get her going. Did I get in front of myself with the training?, I dint know but time will tell. The best bit of advice that I could give you is to enjoy the pup and make every session a playful time for the pup, I wa
  13. Defo holds some really large pike, and its fishig really well at the moment, the section just below the gold course is fishing well, Concra Woods. I have taken 100 pluse bags of bream from this water, serious course fishing to be had. I am off to fish a wee lake in Cavn tomorrow, shall report back.
  14. Fished Muckno yesterday and we managed to land three pike, biggest was 11 on the nose, not bad for the day that was in it.
  15. God you changed your tune Laim, but then again I surpose its a different story when slagging off someone on the phone, Carl I told him that he should say it to ur face, but ya kno what Cork men are like, all I can say is that i thiik you are a top fella.
  16. I know what your saying mate, and with ANY living thing, there will be exceptions, no hard and fast rule. I think there will be some lurchers that you could call off, but i think most of tose would have a healthy dose of herding blood in them, and then i think it would be very situational, rather than a sure thing. Now spaniels are a million miles away, and like you said it's due to training. The spaniels we have had here, could flush 1000 rabbits, and never take one half inch step forward in their pursuit, once flushed. They hunted with precision, at a set distance in front and to each si
  17. Good thread this. Can Lurcher be called off its quarry whilst in hot pursuit; we are all assuming that it can’t be done, but can it be done and would there be a need to have the dog pull up on command. Prior to the arrival of my latest member, I would have never in a million years thought that the need to have a dog sit on command or return while on the hunt could be beneficial to both of us. But I was proven wrong in the process of training my Springer. Is this a macho thing among the hunting fraternity? Why cant we call off our dog in the case of a main road, or would we just
