    so what your saying is you just trenched through the borrow and the dog would show you which way to dig, any half decent dog would do that so the dog did'nt pin point the kill from above ground? your talking about field craft and being at touch with nature well all i can say is you must of F****D some borrow's up over the years you see it might only be a humble bunny but i was always brought up to have respect for your quarry not leaving dead or rabbits with half their arse's hanging out all over the place you want to treat yourself to a locator technology's a great asset

    alright darbo glad the nets are doing there job mate my dogs lurcher to lurcher both parents being collie bred there's a bit of gwp in there aswell he's out of chipper smith's nell to a simon fayre's dog he was out ferreting from 12wks of age and was marking rabbit's at 41/2 mths i always break a dog on their own, then they have to work things out for themselves i think you get a more honest dog that way, not one that will hang back and let other dogs do the work he was 3 in oct, does'nt miss a trick really, doing really well does'nt like strangers though but thats not a bad thing in m

    was going to be on my own again this morning but rang a mate last night and asked if he wanted a morning out as his work with the terriers is all but done so on the land at first light and it was decided we'd do the rough side of the farm, this side of the farm is massive banks of gorse and briar some parts of this you can send your dog in and might not see it till it comes out some 800yds away, but it will always hold rabbits and most of the setts are very deep, you dont get a mark on a 16ft box and it will only get worse now the badgers have taken up residence the dog worked his arse

    The jill usually dies unless its their first season in which case the go out of season naturally. ffs heard it all now dont listen to the old wives tales your ferret should be fine, keep the cage clean etc ferrets that die usually die from some form of infection,they dont die from not being bred i've had ferrets that have never been mated and lived to a good age, i've got a jill here that a had a litter 3yrs ago i might take a litter of her this year but if i dont i wont worry about her dying i dony use the jill jab or vasectomised hobs on any of my jills and i've never had one d

    i use longnets on roadside hedges thats about the only time i use them other than when i'm breaking a pup i'll run one round an open set and have the pup inside much prefer some 6yd stopnets and a load of purse nets albert

    the shooting of hares will always get peoples backs up i was always brought up with the understanding that a dog is for fur a gun is for feather in my view theres nothing better than seeing 1 dog behind an hare now we get lads bragging about taking them on the lamp you never got that years ago the landowners used to make a few quid out of letting coursing lads on and it kept numbers down nowadays they let the shoots on and its like lambs to the slaughter especially at this time of year with it being so mild they'll come for a nosey anyway

    just make sure the situation has'nt the chance to arise again give the dog its own space a cage or basket or as bird said a kennel it does'nt sound like a bad dog perhaps your wife lets it get away with things totally understand your feelings especially with having a young un but sounds like it can be fixed

    As already been said get out in the field you'll learn loads more than a book can teach you Take your time with your pup don't rush to get it on the back of a rabbit, Teach it it's manners first Put what area your from might be someone on here can help you out
