  1. depends of the breed + what work they are bred for, a lot of terriers bred for hard graft below ground dont make good pets, there is probably the occasional exception to this however. my "pet" parson russel bitch has however turned into a good bushing terrier and only started hunting at the grand old age of 6 and a half, tbh, i didnt think she had it in her, shes 8 now and very handy when i go ferreting with the lurcher Thats about right, my two Russels live in but they only go Rabbiting, my mate on the other hand goes digging and has got a lakeyxpat and i wouldnt let it near the bloo
  2. Handsome animal that Brog, nice kennel set up as well. Mate of mine has a dog bred same way an he has found it to be a good singlehanded dog from a young age.
  3. Ive got beddy x whippet, hes just startin out, hes been the most biddable and easy to train dog ive owned, he marks holes, jumps pretty well, and altho hes not had a catch yet the few times we have stumbled across something whilst out walking in the woods he quick off the mark and will even follow them into heavy bramble and gorse....needless to say he dont catch them in there, like i said hes just starting out but I think he gonna do ok.
  4. Simply beautiful words Stabba and 100% right! for the uk perhaps still able to find top class pure bulls if you know where to look. Plenty in UK too if u know the right people..allegedly.
  5. All my dogs have to be workers and I like to keep them outside, and when im away to work my wife will bring 1 or 2 in and they are the wife and kids pets, i disagree entirely that they cant be both, a dogs working ability is in its genes not in wether they live in or out the house and wether they get fussed over or not.
  6. Hi, Never seen the need to introduce Bull blood to the strain of a lurcher, although there is not a true lurcher ,I like to think the Collie cross is the true ( LURCHER )ie, all rounder day and night. If you want to add such things to a lurcher you just attract attention ie, (DEVIL DOGS) As I think you would agree, this is seen more and more in every day papers.!! Again my opinion. Christ !!!!! (excuse the phrase) I was out a walk the other day (Also with a few others from the site) and saw some youngsters out with there TYSON'S and REX'S ,(bad boy dogs) and so on

  10. :wallbash:Yes mate, have a bit more patience, its only a pup for fecks sake. . Cheers, D. Couldnt agree more. Dogs mature at different rates, an yours is still a pup.
  11. This type of situation is easily avoided by keeing your dog on a lead in public. Dont be a school teacher little fish, the lads looking for advice after the fact, not advice on how he could of avoided the situation, which Im sure he will know by now.
  12. Sound like a good bit of dog crac..let us know how youse get on and maybey put up some pics of the winning pair.
  13. f**k me what a sorry state of affairs, so many working breeds gone by the wayside just because people more interested in money than preserving the true nature of a working dog. Breed from the best(workers that is) and do the right thing and cull the rest.

  15. I will 2nd this, golden eye works a treat.
  16. have experienced this with dogs over the yrs and i have always bought something like golden eye ointment from the chemist...its cheaper than a visit to the vets and has always cleared up the problem. Also its worth making sure your dogs bedding is changed regularly.
  17. I dont allow the puncture to close too soon so you dont seal any bacteria inside and flush the wound liberally using a syringe(without the needle attached) full of hydrogen peroxide (available at most chemists over the counter) diluted with water...usually about 1 part peroxide 4 parts water, dont overdue the peroxide as on its own it stings like hell, (tried it on myself once) Usually have to repeat this daily for 2/3 days depending on depth/seriousness etc. After that, as long as no signs of infection allow wound to heal naturally. As previous posts have said, I too dont believe in jabbing
  18. Thanks for the feedback. The fact that they are Made In Great Britain from 100% British materials is reason enough for lads to stop buying the mass produced Chinese shite that is sold on ebollox! British Jobs For British Workers! The 3/4" wide stuff is going well, am using one of the leads myself and it's wearing in nicely. Recieved collar an lead through the post today, am well pleased with them, would recommend this gear to any dog lads/lassies. cheers
