  1. The "Stute" on a Saturday night!!!
  2. Every dog, no matter what breed or cross is an individual, Jay my old dog (R.I.P.) was 6 months old and never looked back. He has been gone 10 year, Took ALL quarry, my latest dog (Laguna Whippet) took 10 month to catch his first. Now 1 yr. old is a devil on rabbit. Start them young (6 month +) The penny will drop.... belive me
  3. Winchester!!!! Just seen thousands of them on my way down to Southampton.
  4. Good post, but personally I,ve always used my dogs for lamp and day time (ferreting, bushing etc.) and never had a problem. Free rein in the day time, instant return when lamp goes out, thas what I expect and all the dogs I,ve ever trained have responded easily.
  5. This fella below, is a transporter and apparently very good... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=127221 Frank. Can highly recommend this courier. Top man.
  6. Bread and butter pudding, stewed apples or stewed rhubarb and custard, my Mrs. makes the best rice pudding going. Keep your gateaux or fancy shite... old fashioned puds for me.
  7. There is only one cure for the scum that perpetuate this sort of activity..... It,s called a bullet!!!
  8. Broken bleeding nail (or one clipped a bit short) or minor foot/pad cut.. pure corn flour will stop the bleeding.
  9. Stealth net, poles, 12 flock coated, remote flapper at the back of patteren..... job done.
  10. imp cylinder and 1/4 choke if you ask me. Never used tighter chokes myself as most roost shooting is snap shooting. Just a personal view, but honest.
  11. The area I live in is very flinty (Hampshire) and dogs of all crosses get cut up from time to time running over these flint fields. Little you can do, other than bathe and leave to heal. Luckily dogs can lick their feet, so heal quite quickly. Plenty of road work toughens up the pads and may help against cuts. Dogs with collie or saluki blood seam to have better feet for this type of ground. ATB.
  12. Good call mate, used the exact same method myself. Took a little time but you could see the pup thinking before trying to jump up after only a couple of times, soon stopped trying altogether.
  13. Same as, also raw eggs every now and then. Ox liver once or twice a month when not any fresh carcases available.
  14. Will be driving over it in about 10 mins. Richard Adams who wrote the book still lives in Whitchurch. Any one going there must go to the Watership Down pub, even if only to take a picture to show there mates it do exist. Lived here 25 years and the previous pictures of the hill that were on here is my first training spot for my young racing pigeons every year. You can see for miles. Well worth a visit, Lloyd Webber owns a good patch of it.
  15. Watership Down is quite hot, but I don,t know about 28 keepers, some parts are race horse gallops and others arable land. Plenty of rabbits, hares and roe. Used to ferret plantation farm years ago, never caught really big bags. White Hill (Kingsclere) on the downs is very popular with ramblers, lots of footpaths etc and gets quite packed at weekends. Used to test the dogs on the hares up there many years ago, there and Salisbury plain. I drive over Watership Down every night going to work. Used to have a pint in "The Watership Down" at Freefolk before going home. Very pretty area.
  16. I remember going a few times, The last time I went was the time Jack Hargreaves was filming for his Out of Town , you may find some of this footage some where. After that big fight it was moved to Newbury race course but only lasted a year or 2. I got to go to work now, but if you want any more info p.m. me and I,ll strain my small brain and try and remember. Remember the write ups in daily papers at the time , all b*llocks about mass fights and supposed badger baiting etc.
  17. My mate on here (hibbsy) has 4. (if they are the ones from near Andover) we always use them when decoying, especially good when not enough breeze to move wobblers. Always reckon the more movement in pattern the better
  18. Sad news mate, I would have the lurcher, but I,m right down here in the south, not that distance means a thing, but I,m training up a Mike Brown whippet at the mo.(Don,t listen to the knockers... they are the bollocks,.) and I really mean that if you can,t find the right homme for this dog p.m. m e. Allen`
  19. Chin up mush, we,ll be pigeon shooting this weekend, you,ll see.
