I seen one on there a few days back in good working order but tatty for £100...
  2. To be honest my dogs won't even see a rabbit let alone any other critter at 7/8 months S/Handed so it would be foolish to say it will or won't make the standard i ask of my dogs at that age?,i ain't and never have been in any great rush to start dogs away, what's the big hurry anyway? ALL of my dogs have ran and ran strong at 10 years of age or beyond and i still have two albeit long retired at nigh on 14 and 16 years of age respectively, seen many a dog ran young and been finished by 3/4 years of age at the oldest, they just lose the desire & love for the game...when all's said and done you
  3. Shows how much you know imo..far too young!!!
  4. To be honest i've had good nights infact very good nights when the moons been up BUT i'd say steer clear and wait for better conditions if running a pup as it can pick up reallyy bad habits with a big moon showing ie: hunting up if it misses, a cardinal sin for any worthy lamp dog? Very hard to stop too if it cotton's on to it..patience is the name of the game
  5. Let's not forget about the bitches of the strain like Pack of Dogs says and Baz asked of,from the mouth of Vic himself his biggest ever solo tally of rabbits were killed with a daughter of Blue, the 28 hares he took in one night was also better than the 26 he took with Blue and Joedog's old recruit Rambo with the same bitch and a young brindle dog i bred called Nipper out of Bulpa & Jess, the coloured bitch Jess i just mentioned took 27 with Gypsy the litter sister to Cora another daughter of Blue whereas Jess was a grandaughter of him,my dog Bulpa was grandsire to Vic's bitch,Cora & Gy
  6. Yes,i get your point Joe,but plenty of the bigger heavier dogs are not the quickest onto gear either are they really? Like i say it's ANOTHER point we can agree to disagree on haha .Don't get me wrong i'd prefer a good big dog to a good little un but sometimes it doesn't work like that as you know? Slightly off track here Joe but how do you find the staying power of the Wheaton compared to dogs you've had over the years? My mate swears by them for gameness but says they lack a bit in the wind department? It's a type i have NO experience of whatsoever infact i'm not even sure if i've seen one
  7. As Laddie's breeding was of unknown make-up Max perhaps he was a Minshaw ..just to say that is one really smart pup you have there Top Poacher out of my old dog, fingers crossed he makes the grade for you ..and my tuppence worth like my son Ginny Spinner is who gives a shit about how they look ..i've seen a 22 inch bitch run rings around it's own grandfather many times and it's grandfather was the mighty Blue himself..trust me in this game big isn't always best .Yes it helps if your after the bigger critters that comes without saying but it's no good having a one trick pony is it? Cheers
  8. As some know and some don't i guess,i've had one of these "Minshaw's" in my kennel's since the early 1980's,apart from the dogs Rambo,Traveller and their sire Blue and to an extent Oboe who were all of a similar type the remainder of the Minshaw dogs labelled as that at the time by Vic himself were an uncanny bunch of mongrel's to say the least lol,i find it quite strange to say that those aforementioned were the "original" old types when infact Vic labelled Blue's sire Nipper and even his sire Rip as Minshaw's too.Like some have mentioned the majority were lurcher x lurcher line bred, half bro
  9. Spot on mate ,this is a family tree of a dog i currently have and this goes back to Rag Lad owned by Vic's father way back in the late 1960's,there are one or two "unknown" in amongst but still not too bad considering we are talking lurcher's here, and for 40 years plus
  10. Yeah,i knew what it was Joe that's why i put it on for you,it's some beast ain't it? It were only 8 or 9 month old on that pic i think? Is that the grandfather to your pup thats on the pics on the first page of this thread then? ATB Andy.
  11. Joe and S/h do you know this dog then lol?
  12. How's trick's fella? Hope your pleased with the mutts and i was just wondering if old D still has the big coloured dog?
  13. Yeah, cheers matey she was a cracking wee bitch ..perhaps it's just us old timers S/H that are living in the past ,any dog/bitch that carries the genes of the old dogs we just call em Minshaw's lol..no but to be honest in the norm i've tried to carry on what Vic started all those years ago and at the end of the day i'm happy with the dogs i've got and have owned generally speaking and although my dog has covered numerous bitches the last litter of pups i bred was back in August 1998,so i ain't been churning pups out to make money from them as some have done? The pups Joe bred are VERY we
  14. I think this is where the Minshaw dog loses a few people INCLUDING MYSELF . You can see where rambo, traveller, an blue get there look from when you look at that Nipper. I mean look at Bulpa that you owned you wouldnt even relate the dog. When i asked for pictures mate i meant dogs of today an do any resemble the likes of Rambo, Traveller, an the other big strong Minshaw dogs. Not pictures from 25 years ago. . I have seen enough of them at Joes. . All the Best SHanded . . Haha us old un's like to reminice matey lol..i think that my old dog Bulpa did resemble the old type
  15. Just to add folks, this is Blue's sire Nipper and his sire Rip..dogs of only 24 1/2 inch and barely 21 1/2 inch..old types or not then? This is where they descended from? Nipper and Rip
  16. Yeah, plenty of pics S/H i will put some on for you to have a gander at i wonder if Joe can remember Rambo's brother that went down your way (Lancs) as a puppy? It was a white and black dog much the same as a bitch i have now pictured below .. Swift the dog i'm speaking of was nothing like Rambo, obviously those that recall Rambo knew what a powerhouse of a dog he was, nigh on 90lb in weight, a head like a bucket and all BUT his litter brother (only 3 in the litter) was 31 inch and built like a giraffe, obviously their dam was half Greyhound, did this dog get his size and frame from t
  17. Daz,you know how i rated the Chester dog,not just because i bred him (didn't own him) but i ran the dog throughout his career from day one until his final shift, the dog was a machine and if his offspring are even half as good then they will be as good as most .I honestly rate the dog as good as any that i've ever seen..from yesteryear to present day,he done EVERYTHING as you'd want a running dog to do,i have seen dogs with a little more staying power than him but trust me he'd catch more than anyone person could dream of carrying lol,i'm sure the youngsters you have will make real good graft
  18. It's a difficult question really Baz? Personally i genuinely think the bitch we had confiscated last year which Joe Ox bred out of my old dog and a bitch Joe owned out of his dog Moscow the litter brother to my dog Jack may seriously of been upto the task, she had some engine on her,i NEVER seen her bottomed and she ran some gear, she was only in her second season so the sky could of been the limit with her? If i'm being truthful i don't think i have the desire or want to do what i used to do with the dogs lol,so for me i'd say i have no chance of reaching the day's of yesteryear no matter what
  19. Joe i think you may be confused here matey? Black Jack was definately out of a Greyhound bitch,he was killed by a big critter or atleast while running one,is that the same dog your thinking of?
  20. Nigger was one of my favourites Joe,a dog with great drive who never threw the towel in no matter how hard a shift he was putting in .a pacy dog and like you say not the biggest dog you'd ever see? I just hope these dogs don't or haven't become "fashion icon's" ,these dogs as you know back in the day were owned and ran by dog lads who were prepared to risk all in pursuit of game, run the gauntlet to put these dogs on big numbers of gear ..great days and even better nights .Hope all's well in your world Joe? Keep at em.
  21. Hi Joe & S/H it's Andy here, they really are smart youngsters you have on your hands there fingers crossed they make the grade for you come next season ,i'm not sure if you can remember a dog of almost identical looks Joe that Shaun had for a while many years ago which he named Rambo like your old dog? It was out of Blue and a Grey? Has it happens it never made the grade and went to pastures new but it was almost exactly the same stamp and colour of your pup. As for this "old" type stuff,i'm not to sure what that's all about really? Were those that you speak of any better than what's ar
  22. Only moderate ..you will have to take the numero uno jukel out of the kennels with you next time
  23. Many thanks for the invite AGAIN Tomo,we really do appreciate it and it's also nice to watch and run the pups bred out of our two old un's,i've been in this game for a long time probably too long some would say lol and imo i think these pups are up there with the best of what i've seen at this stage of their careers,YES it's early days but fingers crossed we could have some handy pot fillers all being well over the coming years? On the journey down last night the outside temperature shown in the car ranged from 4c to -1.5c so it was never going to be the greatest of nights but the pups missed
