  1. Yeah ,,a piss taker. why am i a piss taker ,????? listen bud , i dont want to call ya names here, i dont know ya, but lads with dogs know they were not all born equal, all dogs have different qualities ,which they use to their advantage, but pure pace is not something you can learn ,speed and running ability are something dogs are born with, you cannot work a dog faster,No matter how fit a beddy cross ,he is not going to pass an unfit saluki cross on the way to take the first turn out of a hare who said any thing about compairing it to a nother x ,like i said its down to the perso

  5. A blind, lame collie with a toothless grin will take the odd hare on the lamp, but it shouldn't be done..
  6. if that was the case, would that not lead to a lot of waistage,to tall, not tall enough,to heavy ect, dont know just asking as iv never bred a litter, just if i did id want to know what pups ie percentage im getting thats all The full bull to the half bull was the tricky one to pick a pup out of the litter ,putting that then to a greyhound is a no brainer, its for pace, pups should turn out ok,I understand what you're saying but i think people get hung up on it,a lot of it is experience and common sence..
  7. As long as both parents are bang on,it shouldn't matter what the precentage is ,its nature not maths.
  8. Thats got to be a wind up,either that or you have limited experience with the breed or all round lurcher work,
  9. What will you use her for, she looks like great lamping material,
  10. Fine looking pup that, very similar to the 3/4 wheaten hound pup i have in markings,
  11. Is that the best picture you can put up of her..
  12. Make sure about the parents though, seen some really bad examples of wastage when first crosses have been crossed with lurchers
  13. Had a really good one years ago, took everything asked of her but just lacking that top gear, her feet were awful, real terrier feet, but made up for all her flaws with complete focus and determination
  14. Two whole rabbits out of the freezer into the back of the car, so it looks like im lamping rabbits,
  15. always hunted, father hunted, grandfather hunted and his great uncle had to leave Ireland for America after beating a gamekeeper, after been caught hunting where he shouldn't have been,it's in your blood, there's nothing like the buzz you get when a hare gets up out of her set in front of your dog ,nothing...
  16. solid looking pup there bud, you'll have plenty of fun with him next year, good luck with him,
  17. I think they still give out a few licences every year in the south to a couple of packs, i could be wrong, but havent heard otherwise..
  18. For whats it worth i dont let the dog near a rabbit until i take him out lamping the first night, because i dont want him excited by the sight of one ,the dog will chase ,thats what he's bred for,all i'm interested in is the retrieve the first few nights out ,just be relaxed when the dog catches, easier said than done i know, recall and praise him, i never let the pup mooch in the day time for rabbits before i lamp him,too many bad habits just waiting to happen, good luck,
  19. A lot of very interesting comments there,a lot of which can only be made through years of hunting and at the end of the day as long as we can enjoy working your own dog in whatever your chosen field of hunting is,thats all that matters really, personally for me its all about bringing on your pup, training him ,starting him,and hopefully in a few seasons, being able to stand back and admire him working..
  20. There was a thread on here recently about what qualititys people value in a lurcher,Alot of different virtues were put forward, speed, stamina, coat and even the look of the dog,but Brains cropped up a lot too,.My question is "How much brains does a dog need",a saluki is a perfect example of an animal bred for generations ,just to catch its quarry nothing else, and "catch "being the proper term, not race another dog which is exactly what a greyhound does, But, is a saluki not thought of as lacking a little grey matter, but is perfectly designed for what is does, It's my belief that any lurcher give
  21. Great looking pup, with that breeding in him i dont think he`ll be found lacking,
  22. How did ya get charlie to sit up and smile like that, fair play
  23. Buy..no question about it, let someone else worry bout feeding and cleaning up the mess,
  24. there are alot of dogs arent font of tackling foxes, and some first crosses lack a bit of boot, the more of an all rounder you have, the more possabilities are open to you when your out hunting, get yourself a 3/4 terrier cross ,bull, wheaten ,beddy,Donedeal throw up a few sometimes, good luck with it anyway,
