Hi all When i got home from work earlier i decided to try the Boresnake. As ive never used one before i followed the advice given and dropped the weighted end down the barrel , breech to crown end. On the first pull through the cord felt quite stiff , but on the second it glided through with little effort. I then looked through the barrel from the crown end up to the light and everything looks spotlessly clean so i didn't bother to use the snake a third time. Thanks for all the advice lads , John

trooperman Do you find that after cleaning a .22 rimfire it alters the previous POI. I've fired off approx 1500 rounds with my .22 Cz Varmint since new and i still havn't cleaned the bore , Just curious , that's all , John

Thanks for your reply andyf Although i am not disregarding your advise , this subject on ' Boresnakes ' damaging the rifles crown seems to be a bit of a myth , according to quite a few comments on another popular American chat forum , John

Whats your personal opinion Deker regarding bore cleaning on .22 rimfires , are you for or against regular cleaning , John

Hi all I've owned my Cz Varmint .22 rimmy for about 3 years and i have never cleaned the bore once. The rifle has only ever been used for pest control, mainly rabbits, and i have never really felt the need to clean the rifles bore. However,i have now decided that i want to join a local target shooting club and i have purchased a Bore Snake from my local dealer. I was just wondering if it is ok to pull the Bore snake through the barrel a couple of times DRY,or is it better to use some kind of solvent on the snake first. The only solvent i have at home at the moment is ' Bisley

GILLYDOG A couple of years ago i was in the same situation as you , looking for a shotgun on a budget. A friend of mine at work was telling me about his ' LANBER ' that he has owned for about 15 years with no problems at all. So i ended up buying a second hand ' Lanber Sporting Deluxe ' multi choke for about £400 . That was about 2 years ago and i have had no trouble what so ever , Good hunting , John

On the application form to join the club it states that i need 2 people to sponsor me , both of good standing , an employer, solicitor etc. I was just wondering if good standing means that they have never been in trouble with the police and that i can use the 2 referees that i did when i applied for my FAC ( GOOD FRIENDS ) who are not professional people John

So would a couple of good friends from work be ok , as i used people from work when i applied for my FAC , John

Hi all I'm in the process of filling in an application form to join a local shooting club and on the form it states that i need 2 referees of good standing that will vouch for me. The only 2 that come to mind are , doctor & employer. Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated , John

Hi all I've decided that i want to join a shooting club in my local area and i have a question : On the application form it states that although i already hold an FAC i will still need to pass either the .22 NSRA safe shooting course or the equivalent NRA course for centre fire. As i've never been involved with any shooting club before , i was just wondering if any of you guys have, and could give me some advice of what to expect on these courses, Many thanks , John

Hi trappa Don't quote me on this because i'm fairly new to fac's , but as far as i know you can't just swap a firearm for another firearm . If you dont want your .223 then you have to sell it and fill in the appropiate form. And then send in another form and apply for the .17HMR , i believe it's called a variation , to be added to your ticket , John

Thanks for your replies lads Wish i had seen these first , John

Hi all Can anybody tell me how the law stands in the UK for gun and ammo storage while in a car. What i need to clarify is : Can i take my shotgun or rifle and ammo to work with me locked away in the boot so i can go straight to my permission after i finish work. At the moment i'm doing a 60 mile round trip to work and back and it would be a lot easier if i could go shooting straight from my place of work once i have finished my shift , John PS : all staff vehicles are parked in a multi storey private car park .

..22 lr with or without moderator ?

Thanks for all your replies your info is greatly appreciated , John -
Hi all I was just wondering if the muzzle report from an unmoderated .22 LR rifle ( using subsonic ammo ) is as loud as a moderated .17 HMR I've never fired my .22 CZ varmint without it's moderator and never fired a .17 HMR at all. The reason I'm asking is that i personally feel my rifle looks far better without a silencer fitted . I've also heard that even the loud crack from a moderated .17 HMR does not spook the rabbits when others are being shot at , Many thanks , John

Thanks for your swift reply colint5 I just assumed that the 2 witnesses were only needed when a person first applies for an FAC , John

Hi all. When the time comes to renew my FAC , do i have to go through the referee procedure again and get 2 witnesses as i did when i first applied for it ? and if i do , can i ask the same two people again , John

Hi all After a hard day at the office i decided to pay my local permission a visit with my .22 rimmy , and try my luck with a bit of bunny bashing from the high seat. I never arrived until about 5 o clock and it wasn't long before i fired off my first shot. It was quite a long shot ( well for me anyway ) at about 75 / yards. The rifle is zeroed at about 45 / 50 yards , so i allowed for the bullet drop by aiming directly at the top of the bunnies back while it was feeding. The winchester super X struck dead centre , with a bullet drop of about 1 1/2''. Nothing el
