  1. Louis 123 I bought my first shotgun about 2 years ago after many years shooting air rifles and the occasional rimfire. Like yourself i was on a budget ( mine was about £500 at the time ) so i asked about , went on chatrooms etc , and finally decided on a Lanber Sporting Deluxe 12g o/u The gun was about 4 years old at the time of purchase and i paid £450. The gun shop also threw in a cleaning kit for the price The reason i went for the Lanber was that a friend at work had owned one for 15 years and told me that they were reliable , and if the unexpected did happen and a problem
  2. I've owned my cz varmint .22 fitted with a parker hale silencer for about 3 years and i couldn't be happier . As sauer stated , the parker hale may not be as chunky and good looking as a sax , but i very much doubt that the sax is more effective in the field , especially if you use subsonic ammo like Winchester SuperX . You've also got to take into account the cost. Just my opinion of course , John
  3. Hi all After reading an ad in this months Sporting Rifle magazine , i was quite interested in a product being advertised. It was regarding cci's .22 segmented hollow point range of bullets. The piece that caught my eye was that it stated that the bullet on impact breaks into 3 seperate pieces , which in turn , virtually eliminates the problem of the .22's ricochet characteristic and increases stopping power. I was just wondering if any of you guys have tried this product and give your thoughts , both good and bad, Many thanks , John http://www.mackspw.com/Item-
  4. Looks like you both had a great day teejay And thanks for those pics , they say a lot John
  5. Hi all I have found a site that sell eezzy wobblers ( birds not included ) at a starting price of £14.50 for 10 sticks. http://www.pigeon-decoys.co.uk/catalog/ Have any of you experienced shooters tried these before , and if you have your opinions will be greatly appreciated , John
  6. Hi all. As a newbie to Decoying / pigeon shooting i am looking to buy a couple of bouncers / wobblers to add a bit of movement to my decoy pattern . Are these 2 items the same thing ? I am not in the market at the moment for a rotary machine , and was told by a mate that all i need to do is buy a couple of wobblers / bouncers to add some slight movement in the wind . If anybody could suggest what i should go for , this will be greatly appreciated , Many thanks John
  7. Well done mate. I bet the farmer was happy too
  8. The only cci subs i've tried in my cz varmint were the copper coloured ones , and they were also terrible . They sprayed bullets all over the place and the groupings were awful . I ended up taking them back to the gunshop and swapping the remaining boxes for my current ( and only brand ) Winchester SuperX. I would like to know however if anybody else has tried this copper coloured crap , as i believe that they have now been discontinued ( thank god ) John
  9. Hi all As i'm a quite a newbie to pigeon shooting i was just wondering about the quality of these two makes of cartridge. Over the last year or so my main brand for my 12 bore has been Lyalvale Supreme Game 6 -3 2 gms fibre wad. About a week ago i went to a different gunshop and the salesman told me that i was using Lyalvales top of the range cartridge and these were far too grand and pricey for pigeon shooting ( unless i had deep pockets ) He suggested that i try the equivelant and cheaper Fiocchi brand , with the plastic wad. So far i've used about 100 of these fiocchi
  10. winchester subs suit my Cz Varmint
  11. That's my model I've had it about 2 years with no problems at all. A friend of mine ( who has also owned a lanber for about 15 years ) also told me that due to the lanbers simple design they are very easy to repair and are therefore liked by gunsmiths , John
  12. Hi all I was just just wondering if any of you guys use the ' Shooters Aid Ear Defenders ' the ones with the baffle system and cost about £11. The reason i'm asking is because i've just bought my first pair and i am not too sure how far into my ear i'm supposed to insert them . If i push and twist them in too firmly they seem to be a little uncomfortable and rub down in my ear canel and half of my normal hearing is immediately lost. Or am i supposed to only half insert them , in which case there is no mild pain in my ear canel and most normal sounds can still be heard clearly.
  13. Doubt if we'll ever find out . I think he was a bit unhappy with some of the responses . Especially the one about the scarecrow
  14. Deker I bought a few boxes of this copper ammo about 2 years ago from my local gunshop when i picked up my new cz varmint. as you stated , i have only seen the LEAD coloured bullet over the last couple of years , so i can only assume that the bloke in the gunshop was selling off his old stock , John
  15. MontyMarcroft On a serious note , the problem you have is that the country woodpigeon has got bloody good eyesight and even if you spent a fortune on an air rifle you would have problems trying to sneak up on them . On this matter i have some experience . Before i went down the route of Fac's , Rimfires , shotguns i always used a legal limit air rifle (12ft 11bs) for over 30 years . In my opinion the best kind of air rifle for any small game would be a pcp ( precharged pneumatic ) due to the lack of recoil and i think you would struggle to get a decent one for around the £60 ma
  16. Me too mate . Although i've never tried the normal lead coloured bullet from cci i did try a few boxes of the copper coloured variety . They were absolutely dreadful . They sprayed all over the place. I ended up p/xing the remaing few box's for the winchester subs , John
  17. Winchester super X subs used in my cz varmint serve me well , John
  18. I know the feeling mate :11:
