  1. Thanks for the replys lads , i've got some thinking to do now , John
  2. Hi all I have recently purchaced a mid 1970's .22 Weihrauch HW35. Overall the rifle isn't in bad condition apart from the low power & a stock that is a bit scratched. Yesterday i fired off about a dozen pellets through the chrony ( Crossman premiers )and the rifle only produced 1.71ft 11bs. 232 fps average. I was just wondering if there are any Airgun guru's around the Hertfordshire area who could bring the rifle up to date and get her shooting at her best again , (HERTFORD/WARE) borders , otherwise it means sending the rifle off & chancing the postal system. The name
  3. When i do a zero check on my .22 , as already mentioned , i always place the target on a upwards sloping bank. Also , if you want a target that will stop the bullet in it's tracks , then buy one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LONG-RANGE-STEEL-DISC-TARGET-6MM-THICK-RIMFIRE_W0QQitemZ200528061766QQihZ010QQcategoryZ73978QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I bought one of these a while back and find it great to stop those .22's in their tracks , John
  4. Hi all I've recently purchased a brand new Winchester SX3 Composite and i am thinking of removing the plug in the magazine tube so that the gun will become 4 + 1. I am also FAC registered for a .22lr. The shotgun is only used for pest control on a local estate , and i am also a member of a pigeon / avian shooting syndicate. Do you guys think that i will be able to get a variation for my shotgun for the kind of shooting that i do , Many thanks , John
  5. A few weeks ago i was looking to buy my first semi auto and i was interested in a Webley & Scott. That was until a bloke at work told me that he had nothing but problems with his one So i ended up buying a brand new Winchester SX3 Composite chambered for 3 1/2'' The gun has performed faultlessly and came with a 5 year warranty. Oh , and buy the way , the bloke at work got his money back on the webley and bought a brand new HATSAN ESCORT & no problems to date , John
  6. Hi all I took my new SX3 12g out today down to my local pigeon shooting syndicate but there was absolutely nothing around. I spent the first hour or so with the binoculars , trying to spot the woodies feeding , but everything was absolutely dead. Anyway , i decided to set up under a nearby tree that was in the shade and see what , if anything would appear. After setting up a few decoys ( pigeons and crows ) a floater and a couple of flappers i made myself comfortable and waited. Nothing happened for the first hour but then , out of nowhere a feral landed near one of the f
  7. Here's a link to the Winchester manual , it tells you all you need to know , John http://media.winchesterguns.com/pdf/om/06_013_sx3.pdf
  8. Hi t5avs1 I've just bought a brand new SX3 3 1/2 composite 30'' barrell about 2 weeks ago ( spur of the moment decision ) and so far everything seems to be ok. I've only been out with it pigeon shooting a couple of times and it functioned perfectly. I was using FIOCCHI pigeon 32 no 6's 1 1/8 oz. On winchesters site though they recommened a cartridge of at least 70mm , so i've bought a few boxes of RIO super Game 32 no 5's 2 3/4'' 70mm. Weather permitting , i hope to be going out on Sunday for a few hours and give my new toy another work out. This is my first semi auto and i
  9. Hi all This morning i picked up my new shotty , a brand new Winchester semi auto SX3 12g 3 1/2''. As i've never owned a semi auto before i was just wondering which choke is best to use on pigeons. I've heard that the quarter choke is the best one to fire off first when using an o/u and a s/s so i fitted the quarter to my new semi. As stated in a earlier posting , i am new to semi's and pigeon shooting so any advice will be greatly appreciated , John
  10. Hi all As already stated on a previous posting i have recently purchased a brand new Winchester sx3 12g 3 1/2. As a newbie with semi auto's i am a bit confused regarding which size cartridges to use. On winchesters site it states that : 31⁄2" —These models have a 3 1⁄2" chamber designed to shoot factory 12 gauge loads including 2 3⁄4", 3" and 3 1⁄2" (11⁄8 oz. to 21⁄4 oz.) field loads. (They are NOT designed to shoot the lightest factory 7⁄8 oz. and 1 oz. loads.) The only shells that i have left after selling my o/u are LYALVALE EXPRESS 32 number 6s 2 1/2'' 65mm . C
  11. Do you mean that you could probably load MORE than 3 shells into the magazine. I am new to semi autos but thought that 3 shells are the norm to load into a semi auto on a standard uk shotgun cert , John
  12. Hi all After trying to decide on which semi auto to add to my gun cabinet , i decided on the Winchester sx3 31/2'' composite and purchased it today on my standard shotgun certificate. However , when i got home i found an article on the web stating that : Though you might think both are shotguns (class 11) I must point out that the 3½” model will be classed as a Section 1 firearm since you can easily load the magazine with more than two rounds if you use the short 2” shells. Ignorance of the law; be it as a dealer or shooter is no excuse; you have been warned! I am now confuse
  13. Thanks watchman , Ill remember your words next time i go out , John
  14. Hi all i am thinking of adding a semi auto to my gun collection but have no experience with them at all. I have used my mates Bennelli m2 12 g and found it very accurate and a pleasure to use , In fact,i hit a lot more with it than i do with my own Lanber o/u As usual money is tight and i can't really afford to buy a new Bennelli and was wondering if you guys could suggest some others. After looking on the net i have found a couple of cheaper options , as i would prefer to buy new this time , but as i've already stated , i know nothing about semi auto's. These are as fo
  15. The most annoying problem i have is when the bird flies directly towards you. Today i had one coming straight at me so i waited till it was in range and lined up for the shot. As it approached i pulled the trigger and followed through ( i think ) and after both barrels were fired the damm thing just swerved and flew away. Bloody infuriating i tell you , Jonn
  16. might no b the chokes mate I was thinking that myself
  17. Hi all I was just wondering if you guys can tell me what chokes you use for pigeons. The chokes that i'm using in my Lanber are Top barrel : 3 notches Bottom barrel : 4 notches Sorry , but i don't know the names of the different chokes , John Ps : I'm quite new to pigeon shooting and i am missing more than i hit. I was just wondering if using a tighter choke may increase my hit rate.
  18. Hi all For a while now i've been thinking about buying my first semi auto shotgun and my first choice to date has been the ' Bennelli m2 comfortech'. However , a couple of my shooting buddies at work have advised me to add the Baikal MP - 153 12g on to my shortlist as they all say what a great budget semi auto it is and also well under half the price of the Bennelli with very few problems as well. My current shotgun is a Lanber Sporting Deluxe and as already mentioned i have never owned a semi auto before. Any any advice from you guys will be greatly appreciated as i am on a budg
  19. I had just filled all 3 bottles with air and as usual did the spit test on each of the valves and the one mentioned is leaking slowly from the bottle neck valve area. Therefore , this bottle will not be fitted to the rifle until the problem has been sorted. As already mentioned i was just wondering if this valve can be reseated or replaced , john
  20. Hi all I've just noticed that one of the valves on a small buddy bottle from my Rapid 7 is leaking air. Can the valve be replaced or is it more likely that the valve may have come loose. I seem to have read somewhere that you can buy a tool for tightening up these valves or to replace them. Just to clarify : it is not a BALL VALVE as is fitted to my large 300cc bottle that is leaking , but a another type. Looks like a normal valve from a bikes tyre or something like that , John
  21. Hi all While at work today i was approached by somebody who told me that his Neighbour has a problem with fox's. He asked me if i could come around and suss out the situation and shoot the buggers from an upstairs window. I was just wondering how the law stands regarding this kind of shooting in a residential area using live rounds. does this kind of fox control have to be carried out by a registered pest controller. All i know at present is that the Neighbours garden is quite long but there are other gardens at the rear and the sides. Any advice will be greatly apprecia
