i've only seen two pictures of a GWP x springer, one looked just like a tiny GWP, and the other looked like a springer but with a GWP shaped head and "beard". liked the look of both, and those PointerLabs are hellish good dogs, know a keeper who had one that worked well till it was 13!!

that would be my worry not picking a shot hare after going in hard with the collar, let me ken how you get on cammy wouln't effect his working as he's not intended for rough shooting and most places won't allow ground game. i'll be sure too, Rob

Have to say i agree with both of you, (cammy12 & Giro) the dog is wearing a normal collar atm as he's never had one on before, he's going to wear the e-collar for a good few days before i even bother turning it on as he won't be on the hill encountering hares. but as Giro said im wanting a few good zaps stopping his chase so that he'll never so much as bother looking at one again. I honestly wouldn't be dissapointed if he didn't pick fur after that as he's not a rough shooting dog, purely for beating. cheers for the input guys

thats the most annoying part, he did stop on the whistle (still did on the last day i was out with him, but not when the hare got up) and he did leave them when you said 'leave it' . but watching other dogs chasing them has made him think he can have a go too.
-
you should let the dog wear the collar for 2 weeks a month and slowly build up corrections with it. i would not go out on wed and let the dog on a hare and zap him on full power thats very silly Ai s much as i would love to do that, i was going to use it propperly.
-
Im getting the lend of an e-collar on wed so all should be well shortly

Ive used a long line befor when he wasn't turning to the wistle propperly but the tugging of the line in the heather etc meant he didn't hunt as he usually would so never really got a chance to correct him. but i'll give it a try with this situation.

Got a young lab (17 month) that has been sound on the grouse and is a bonny dog, started off leaving hares and not even bothering them when the jump up. Recently he's been watching other dogs chasing them, he started to have a go at them so i just bollocked him when he went for them and making a big fuss of him when he left them. BUT, today he took the piss propperly, he's fast enough to keep with them but not enough to catch them, he chased a hare so far that he lost me throughout the drive, a mate picked him up though. Basically im wanting to borrow (maybe rent) somebodys elecrtic c

Basically i've been offered a 6 month lurcher pup, but at the moment i only have the one kennel untill i land a job. The guy whos offering me it recons the pup will make around 25 tts SO heres the sinario.... The 'bed' of my kennel is 3.5ft wide & 4.5ft deep. The 'run' is 6.5ft wide & 5ft deep. I have two Labradors in the kennel, both are roughly 22 tts and not of a heavy build. do you guys recon that putting a lurcher in there hopefully temporarly will still give the dogs enough room? or would it be to full?? cheers Rob

my 16 month lab is taking the piss recently, he knows the commands, such as recall, stop whistle and to turn on the whistle but hes alright at that. i know he knows what hes ment to do as he has days were he dose them each time. but other days he takes no notice or reeeeeally delayed responces. knowing my dog i think hes just pushing his boundries and seeing what he gets away with, or is it something else? dose he just need put in his place? any methods you find works? advice/help would be appreciated

im there now, its good chat and the tutors are a great laugh but there is alot of class work ( about 4 out of 5 days but your shooting for half of one of them) and half of it has sweet f**k all to do with keeping! but you are on placement form april till summer, but most lads stay over the summer which will be amazing! well lookin forward to it! might be an idea at lookin into a few other colleges if you want practical. they do have kennels, ive got my lab in there atm, its only £25 for the year which is good. let us know if ya want to know anything else Rob -

Yesterday I came back from college for the weekend and decided to take my first walk with my dog (10 month lab) AND the gun. Walking the stubble field, I let him get ahead then i fired a shot and threw a dummy, he looked a bit confused then saw the dummy and i sent him for it. He retrieved it nicely to me, we walked on and he hunted the verges. Then a partridge shot up and over the dyke next to me. i mounted the gun, hesitated to check it was a safe shot, BANG the partridge folded and i wet myself with excitement and joy. Because it was over a wall i left the dog and picked it myself, to
