I'm not intending on buying more gundogs, it's just when I first got into shooting labs and spaniels were 350-400 from what I remember, I just don't understand where this jump has come from
-
Waiting on a litter being born that I'm hopefully getting one from. Has anyone got any pics or ever seen one of this cross working?
-
Don't usually vent on forums but I want to know if others feel the same. It seems to me that prices of gundog pups has been rising over the years but recently, to me anyway it's gone mental.. £700 for lab pups 'get to f#k mate' springers for £500+?! Maybe I'm biest, I enjoy a cross and not fussed about papers or red writing on them. Now don't call me tight, I can make my money dissappear far easier than I'd like to it just seems folk are asking stupid money for let's be frank it's nothing rare or really special anymore to have parents out of ftch's or ftaw's. Dose anyone still favour 'daves'

ROB.BOB replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thanks, the first cross is about 24-5 tts and the bitch is about 23 but she's soft as out so was getting worried about the camera so not sitting up. -

First Cross To Second Cross, What To Expect?
ROB.BOB replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'll try and add them but Ive struggled before to upload them. My bitch has pulled more to the lab, a littermate ended up like a white first cross, beauty of a thing -
Not lurchers but you guys are the ones to ask, I'd expect a purist rant if I put this in the gundogs section. I've got a first cross pointer lab and a second cross bitch, think I've phrased it correctly? (two first crosses where the parents) I'd like to breed from them in the future, could I expect something similar to either of the parents are something totally random??

cheers, i'll suggest that.

Hi all, Never posted in here before! A mate of mine down Staffordshire way is a keeper and thinking of getting a brace of hounds for pushing woods through to guns. Any suggestions or tips as to where/how he would go about getting some? Thanks.

I'm 6'3 and shoot with a Benelli Vinci which is quite short in the stock for me, at the very least an inch. Thinking of having it lengthened so it fits me better. I managed to get a days driven shooting this year and borrowed a browning which I'd never used before but was about right for me in length and I shot the best I ever have! would it make a difference having the benelli lengthened or am I making things up?

And I enjoyed the usual "what the f#*k is that?!" comments when you jumped into the wagon, had a lot of guns asking about him too

What's the fascination with x's mate.? I really don't know, I've got a first gen pointer lab, a second gen pointer lab and what is meant to be a lab but I'm convinced he has a dose of spaniel in him somewhere.I lost my oldest lab a while ago now but for some reason I don't fancy another, I like spaniels but other than a black and tan cocker like my old one I'd rather have something a bit different like a cross. That's fair doos. Your the one that's going to have the dog for years to come. I sometimes think in the gundog world your taking a bit of a risk when crossing breeds. Of course you

All very good points, I might just get another pointer lab then, or maybe try and find a springer cross, seen a few of them before.

Stroller you seem to have a lot of experience with HPR's from reading other posts. Surely a dog will only range as far as it needs to catch a scent and not go past birds for the sake of ranging further away? or am I being naïve? I've only got experience with pointer labs, so not very like proper HPRs.

I've tried searching them on the forum and there's not alot about them. Dose anyone have first hand experience with them as i really like them and would like some first hand comments before looking at pups. Also would they take well to grouse beating? There's plenty of GSPs and GWPs that are great so why not a bracco.
-
This could get to be a pain... Must just be feeling shut in with them as he's fine in a beaters wagon
-
Wish I knew how to post photos so they're large and not just a link, would like get some up of my pointerXlabs
-
Grant_c - so far it just seems to be with really big black labs, one occasion was with one of the keepers I work with big black lab dog (which growls at other dogs but isn't one for attacking) The second occasion was with another big black lab dog, it was soft as can be but my dog acted the same.
-
Cheers, I think I understand what your meaning, just try and distract him with something else when he's in the back with dogs he's not familiar with?
-
I've got a 3 1/2 year old lab that's doing his third season this year, he's totally fine in the beaters wagon but has started to be an arse in the back of a pick up with dogs other than my own. not every time but when he's acting up he stands with his head in the corner barking (which to me is more nervous than aggressive) and its come to blows a few times now. Any suggestion about a reason/solution behind this?
-
Here's mine, just coming up ten months (I don't know how to them bigger but if you click on them they expand)
-
Jessdale - I may be speaking for myself here but to me when you cross the two the ideal result (in my eyes) would be... A dog with a GWPs shape and coat with a great big bushy beard!! The Lab would hopefully make the dog calmer and easier/quicker to train and make all those lessons sink in. covers a lot of ground, throw in the occasional point to please the eye. And what would it be without some fire in its belly and gameness for tackling vermin. Just got myself my second one of these, but its a second generation, looks just like a yellow lab at 9 weeks old but can see a bit of a beard comin

Anyone Else Having Troubles With Their Vinci ??
ROB.BOB replied to ROB.BOB's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Sussex stalker, mine is only just gone a year old, I was saying it looks five year old as its mostly rubbed silver. It's been back once before and had the same issue with the repaired part, so hopefully third times the charm
