  1. "Lurchers in case you hadn't noticed are not pedigrees" Neither were bedlingtons or borders at one time, irrelevant. How do you know your foundation stock hasen't got a heart, lung, eye[especially collies],or some other defect that could be passed on to their pups? a defect or unwanted trait that could go un-noticed in dogs that are never tested. Very illogical thinking.
  2. Why ? You get a lurcher from people you know have good and proven dog,s.atb .catcher Why, What, When, Which Yes my point exactly, tested parents This theory of breeding from proven dogs doesn't add up...everyone appears to agree that there's no guarantee's when buying a pup.....so why does using tested parents matter.....and tested on what? one man's idea of a good working dog is crap for another....it's all relative to what you hunt.... "This theory of breeding from proven dogs doesn't add up" That statement is incredible,so much so i wonder if its there as a wind
  3. Heres a couple of pics of my lads bitch, beddy x whippet/grey back to whippet [accidental mating] 22" tts and 35lbs,she's 12 months old and doing really well. The whippets my coursing bred bitch, and a half sister to the beddy x's dam.
  4. Well done mate, i cant understand why anyone would say a whippet x greyhound wouldn't kill you a fox? ps 600 bricks in a day as a first year apprentice is very good going,if they were straight that is,
  5. Turk sorry to hear youve lost the dogs, especially if youve done nothing illegal as you say. This bloke is commiting offence's himself, section 37 common assault,if he is having a go at your kids/wife,basically any action he does to interfere with them for no reason is an offence, even intimidating them with no physical contact. If you lose your rag and assault this toe rag he'll win again, easy to say but ive learn't the hard way myself, try and get a witness to the harrasment to your wife and kids or anyone else he's bothering [video if possible] not easy i know, but its the only sensible optio

    Weird

I was once lamping on the local golf course and walked round a big clump of gorse and lamped a big fairway,in the beam i saw a bloke with a collie dog,no eyes lit up on him or the dog and they didn't even seem to aknowledge me,i flicked off the lamp for maybe 20 seconds and walked forward a bit, when i put the lamp back on they had both gone, and the nearest cover was a good distance away from their position, not claiming they were ghost or anything, but i cant explain it. A while later while lamping with a mate in the same place we were walking in a gulley and saw something on the sky line co
  9. A mate from Sheffield had this cross, very good dog allround, very game but superb temprement, hard on fox and never killed his rabbits even when both were lamped after each other, nice pups.
  10. Apart from the obvious advantage of a bit more height, adding greyhound seem's to produce steadier tempraments without affecting the dogs desire to catch,im not saying all beddy/whippets are headstrong but ive seen a few you would swear were totally deaf,i stopped lamping with one mate because if his bed/whip missed a rabbit he would run the rest to ground clearing the next field, and its not the only one ive seen do this, just my personal view on what ive seen.
  11. Got to agree with the above posters, wouldn't want this cross without some greyhound in it,after seeing both bed/whip and bed/whippet/grey i would go for one with some greyhound in the mix [no offence meant to the beddy x whippet lads]
  12. Hi it,s not about being black ,white yellow or any coulor ,cred or race.It those baster in goverment.they dont give a shit about the common working man. Most of them are only in it to line there own pocket,s It,s like the old saying.how can you tell when they are lieing there lip,s are moveing. This country has been going down the toilet for a long time. And anouther thing what ever happed to free speech. they have got us bye the ball,s What do we do f--k all.We just sit and take it.For one i am sick and ashamed to live in this so called country of the free. One day and it had better be soon we wi
  13. Tottally sympathise with lads who poach if they do it on foot, field driving in 4x4 s is another ball game, ive had loads of permission for some things when i was doing landowners and keepers a favour, but try and get permission to run a lurcher, not easy.
  14. Ive seen the litter poacher3161 is talking about and they are cracking pups,as for whippet greyhounds 1st x,good catch dogs and sharp but expect plenty of vets bills, saw one go headlong into sheep netting at top speed and it had jumped an identical fence seconds before, wouldnt ever want to see that again, just to fast and intent on killing their quarry at all costs.
  15. Still cant get my head round things like the MOBO awards,if we had white only events they would be classed as racist, even at school they have "chalk boards" not "black boards" wtf? Older members will remember the comedians of the 70's telling jokes about Irish people, did the Irish take to the streets and riot or call anybody a "racist" ? This country has gone PC mad,and im ashamed because we are letting the namby pamby left wing appeasers get away with it. Freedom of speech is all but dead and buried if your opinions are white anglo saxon/celtic that is. The other week Geert Wilders was re
  16. You can never be sure just who's pulling the strings in America, and i doubt its their government,or should i say the people who we recognise as their government. Go on Youtube and take a look at "9/11 loose change" fishy very fishy.
  17. After trying various completes ive gone back to "meat greaves" and plain mixer, the advantage being you can alter the protein content by increasing/decreasing the greaves, a bit of experimenting and you can tailor it to each dog,i also feed veg. Between me and mates who are on it we are feeding pure whippets, beddy whippets, spaniels and lurchers on it,ive also used it for terriers, its just a case of figuring the right amounts of mixer/greaves for each type of dog.
  18. There's good and bad in most races, including the British, from what ive seen most eastern europeans came here and got jobs and have integrated, ive worked in eastern europe and found the people similar to us British,at least they aren't religious nuts hell bent on taking over our country. Would i rather have eastern europeans or muslims in the UK? not much of a contest is it? And while im having a rant, there's plenty of British lazy b......s that wont work at any price[we all know some]maybe some anger should be directed at them for creating the situation in the first place. And thats not aime
  19. Wagg complete is a complete diet and contains enough protein without the extra meat tripe and bones, too much protein could easily trigger skin problems, this is what i would do,just my opinion, put her on a complete with no more than 18% protien content, and stop the extras,as well as treating the scabs with the cream. For the record im on "meat greaves" [dried beef] and plain mixer, you can alter the protein level to suit each dog by altering the amount of greaves you feed, also take into account most mixers are about 10% protein to start with.I also feed a bit of veg.
  20. Lads for f**k sake, purposly wound an animal? and you wonder why we got banned, nice one.
  21. Tom im 99% sure your dog has Eczema,i once had a terrier with the same problem, its not contageous to others and its supposedly hereditary. You cant permanantly cure the dog but should be able to control it fairly easily, here's a few tips, try and get some "Hydracortizone cream" its used to treat the human form of eczema and contains steroids[ive got human eczema myself] it should be pretty safe to use on the scabs after cleaning of course. For some reason it ussually flares up in springtime in dogs and winter in humans. Diet can have a lot to do with it as well, avoid a starchy diet definatly d
  22. Rich your dog looks quite "whippety" shouldn't be to hard to condition really, dont think anybody has stressed the age of your dog enough, she's not develpoed fully at 20 months and over doing the training could be harmful to the dog rather than beneficial. Theres no point in training the dog up during the summer,as someone else has said just sensible exercise walks and free running just to keep her reasonably fit, about a month before you intend to run the dog you should start the road work, this will gently "harden her up" and i would definatly do this before i considered using a bike. A cou
  23. That black/white dog reminds me of the old Bert Gripton dogs, did anyone keep his lines going? i know people who owned them years ago and still speak very highly of Berts bloodline. Im referring to "rough coated's" dog on the first page.
  24. I never meant to agree with an earlier post suggesting Borders were bred specifically for Otter,my point was they were used for otters and badgers, dogs bred to kill to ground never fair well on either,an earlier post said they were to kill foxes and thats not accurate.Lakelands were bred to kill and they are pretty good at it,but a dog that tries to kill every fox with sheer guts dont last very long,my best terriers were a mixture of Border/lakeland although not straight crosses,we bred worker to worker and the main ingredients were Border and lakeland. No doubt some people still have good bo
  25. Some of these posts are just plain wrong,Borders were never bred to kill as far as i know, dogs that tried to kill an otter wouldn't last that long if you think about it sensibly. We used the blood to dilute our lakelands and steady them up a bit or give them a bit of "sense" if you like,we produced some very good dogs this way,the borders sensible temprament developed because they were kenneled with the hounds and fiery dogs would undoubtably be killed by hounds. Simple mechanics should tell you a longer length of jaw = less bite power,a short er jaw means the head muscles are pulling on it
