Further Update On New Lurcher Association
Dewclaw69 replied to Dewclaw69's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
tomorrow morning, 2 members of our steering group meet with Tim Bonner, chairman of the Countryside Alliance to attempt to find some mutually beneficial ground on which to go forward. Here's to the future. Please see the pinned post at the top of this section. Cheers Rob -
I have to say this one, my current dog. He's a 2 and a bit year old 3/4 grey 1/4 collie bred from a track dog to a working 1/2 cross. The last year has been testing to say the least. His aggression with other dogs has tested me beyond reason, his need for input and attention is constant, his coat is the worst i've ever come across ( shedding hair permanently year round). the bond i have with this dog is beyond anything i've ever experienced with any lurcher in 40 years of owning lurchers. Bloody collies. the pic is a year old now.

Quality post that. That "thing" you talk about. Hard to put into words. I call it the "x factor". Some dogs have just got it. Some haven't and won't ever have. i think you're both right on that. And its not equally spread around litters either. Some dogs just seem to have that extra something.

And i have one of the worst

always gets the blood boiling a hancock topic

Led and halogen are just different. I have a halogen lazerlite with a lithium battery and one of the cluson plr500 LED lamps. This new plr500 has the range of the halogen, the spot has less spill and is tighter but the white light takes some getting used to. Eye shine on this one is very good but the white light tends to make things in the beam a little more black and white and loses some colour over the halogen so you can lose some detail. The bodies of rabbits show up much darker than they do with the halogen. I find the LED useful but i'm not a total convert yet.

Bored NL ? Putting things in perspective, the bloke and his daughter have bred a lot of dogs over the years and the odds are, not all of em are gonna turn out "super dogs" but some right numpties will have bought them over the years so that won't have done the reputation any good will it ? The only Hancock bred dog i've ever seen is the best lurcher i've ever seen. The lad who had her really knew what he was doing with her. The owner plays a big part in the success of any lurcher. On balance if anyone had bred the same number of dogs from worker to worker crosses as Hancock has b

I had a lwb v6. Pretty good off road. Beware behind the plastic sill and arch panels. They seem to attract the tinworm

same weight of blackberries to that of sugar. We use ordinary granulated sugar. Blitz blackberries add to pan with same weight of sugar add a knob of butter Add a tablespoon of lemon juice per pound of blackberries bring to boil then leave on a rolling boil for 5 minutes or so. check for set by dropping a teaspoon full onto a cold saucer and bang it in the fridge for 2 mins. if set is good , turn off the heat and ladle into sterilised jars. Happy days

Further Update On New Lurcher Association
Dewclaw69 replied to Dewclaw69's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The only "sad" question is the one not asked. You're right to ask. The new association , to be taken seriously, HAS to recommend working within any current law. That does not mean it agrees with the laws nor does it mean it will not campaign to repeal / amend such laws. -

its a start Davey.is all. At the right time, an elected committee can amend codes / practices as they see fit. -
There's lots of laws that are in place that many don't agree with, but they still apply. However you look at it, its another tool that can be used to persecute dog owners. You can guarantee that if you get a pull coming off land (with permission or otherwise ) from april next year the law will have chip scanners on them. would you really want to lose a dog that you'd put years into ? Bit of a no brainer really

For The Record - I'd like to thank everyone that has PM'd with offers of help. All names and offers have been / and will be noted. At the point that a formal structure of an organisation is born, names and details of how folk want to help will be passed over to the elected committee. cheers Rob
