  1. I would take him out mate it wont hurt him.
  2. sire was a greyhound and mother was a alsation, so far se is coming on in leaps and bounds and very happy with her. how old is your pup mate? as far as i am concerned you wont get a better cross than this they have inteligence plenty of speed with loads of bottle and can do anything that any lurchur man would require of a dog. i dont understand why there isnt more of these crosses about. she is 13 months old, still young as far as running pups are concerned but she had excelled at everythin i have asked of her. and yeah i think your right, they are very bright and plenty of stamina. co

  6. i am going out for a quick shine round tonite. i took full advantage of the weather tuesday night managed a bag of 51 rabbits had to rest my dog lastnight. taking him out tonite to see how well he has recovered from tuesday nights work.
  7. good going that mate. its always good to hear of a young dog doing well. all the best for the rest of the season.
  8. i run my dog almost every night in the winter He only rests if he has a very hard nites lamping or he is injured. usally i keep him fit through the summer months but i havent botherd this summer. started geting him ready for winter 2 weeks ago he runs 5 miles three times a week with me on the road to help shorten his nails. I have started him on three nights a week lamping for 2 hours. he should be farely fit come september ready for a hard seasons work.
  9. Yeah there's a fair few mate, where down south are you??? i am in the west midlands area
  10. Is there many entrants from the south of the country? if there is i might be interested.
  11. The greyhound bitch is worked and does very well for a greyhound. she is one of those once in a lifetime dogs for stamina she takes a few runs in a night.
  12. I have seen dogs that pick and choose ther runs go out and catch large bags. it can be frustrating if a dog does it from time to time but i dont think you can say a dog is no good or jacker.
  13. My mates greyhound is in season and he has asked if he could put my dog over her, just wondering if there would be much interest in this sort of pup as it will be a cross i have not come across before. sire alsation/collie X whippet/greyhound Dam pure greyhound pups would be 5/8ths greyhound 1/8th whippet 1/8th collie 1/8th alsation opinions appreciated.
  14. Thats a fare point. But on the other hand how many times has you dog missed tackle you thought they should of caught, and what percentage of tackle does a dog catch that is to far away or at the bottom of the hedge more often than not i would say more escape than those that dont. dont you think it is disheartning for a dog to run alot of tackle he has got less chance of catching.
  15. I think it depends on the amount of work the dog has, i have seen alot of other crosses do the same thing if they are being worked hard most nights the week. a dog that goes out a couple of times a week doesnt usally do it,
  16. I started to catch the odd one or two rabbits with tumour like growths on them about three seasons ago, since then the numbers off rabbits i have caught with growths on them has increaseed gradually, I have had alot with the growth on there lower backs some have been noticeable as soon as i have caught them and others i havent noticed until i pull the skin off them at home. i am not sure what is causeing them perhaps the pesticides and herbicides are causeing it.
  17. When i was a young lad my father owned a lurcher whos quarry was both fur and feather day and night. she would retrieve anything asked of her. She would retrieve pheasants ducks and pigeons both in or out of the water. She would work the lamp and take all four legged quarry in the fur day or night and seemed to manage both fur and feather day or night with confidence. I was just wondering if any uses there lurchers for both for and feather these days or if my father just had a old school poachers lurcher that had to fill the pot. Has anyone else owned or seen lurchers who work fur an
  18. The dogs doing just fine i shouldnt worry about at all. my dog does it from time to time and hes a excellent jumper he prefers to go over fences even when theres a way through. I wouldnt worry about at all the more she jumps the more experience she gets and the less chance she has of doing herself damage. she wouldnt do it if she didnt want to. Theres plenty of other ways she could hurt her feet when out lamping i would let her keep on jumping if she was mine.
  19. Is there a great deal of difference between the two different crosses? Which do you think makes the better allrounder and for what reasons?
  20. I like a first cross alsation/greyhound myself they seem to have plenty of brain and good agression. Having said that i had a bitch that stood 24tts her mum was a labrador and her father looked like he was a collie/greyhound we wasnt sure of his true breeding. she turned out to be an excellent all rounder with both fur and feather day and night. I run a alsation/collie X whippet/greyhound thought i would give him a try as its not a cross you see that often. He does okay for hiself. the bitch your on about the lab cross is that sally ?that dog seen some work with him didnt she, was she
  21. I havent got any pics mate but my sister has a bitch breed that way. she is 2 years old now and stands at 16"tts she is a lovely animal but she is just a pet. she was out off a littter of 4 the others are excellent rat and rabbit dogs. the mother never had any problems with the pregnancy or the birth. it was a accident mateing which produced some good working dogs.
