thanks for the possitive comments everyone, this jill means such a lot to me she was left here with us after a phone call from some bloke saying he found her in his garden. she had to endure days of tick removal being pulled about trying to clean her up & not once has she attempted to bite, how the hell she carried babys after the state she was in is beond me. She must have been a few days pregnant by the time we got her as it didnt become obvious untill she had been here a month i mithered my self to death over her 2 weks ago when she failed to produce other than the one ki

She also had 2 the live one first then the following morning after a vets trip & some treatment she gave birth to a dead kit on the saturday morning, i knew something wasnt right the early hours, she was very big still but quite happily feeding the live kit , thankfully she was ok after passing the dead one

for a first time ferret owner i would say 8 weeks minimum, but if you have experience & the kits are no longer feeding from there mom & totally independent i would say take one now.

I did a little experiement some yrs ago, 2 ferrets were fed on dry alone, 2 were fed meat alone & 2 were fed a mix of the two, the ferrets that i found looked better physically were the ferrets fed on a mix of the two. The ferrets fed on dry alone were over weight but had good coats, the pair fed on meat were not fat but there coats were not as lush , the 3 rd pair had slightly less dry food but seemed to be just right, there coats wwere good they wernt overweight , so i feed the two options, we all know meat is essential for there well being but the dry food added as a standby can mak

For gods sake people with these huge pipe networks take them out or split them into sections, ferrets willcrawl in these networks & i have a friend who lost a dozon ferrets who had all crawled into a large section of pipe and suffercated due to heat

what was the matter with your ferret? devvo She delivered a kit & then failed to bring the other, so a scan was done to see if there were anymore & sadly it was dead, if i had left her she would have died anyway , so rather than chance it we opted for the oxcytocin injection which makes them have contractions & she sucessfully expelled the dead kit
