I wonder if its just coincidence that those same primitive societies in this day and age live the most trouble free happy lives yet us in advanced societies are constantly at war !..........Maybe if those primitive societies looked for trouble they would find it.....as we do. "Trouble free" think we'll have to disagree on that. They dont look to be too troubled to me.............or wait,do we advanced societies know whats best for them ! http://www.notprimitive.in/ Quite frankly I don't care about them and wouldn't claim to 'know what's best for them'. But it's a fact when confront

It shows that in the right environment fundamental building blocks for life (amino acids) naturally form from simple organic chemical compounds. The compounds used were a possible atmospheric mix in the earth's early history. Our oxygen rich atmosphere has not always been this way. So why he had to include atomic oxygen in his experiment is lost on me?

"Never heard of him" past tense. "What I am reading" present tense.

Fraz, never heard of Miller no. But what I'm reading is concluding the complete opposite of what you have asserted. Miller's work has in fact provided very real evidence to support the creation of life from chemical compounds....

Tufty, how the f**k will 'finding a hobby' help with your education on space exploration?

Shroom, Apollo 11 astronauts were quarantined for fear of Moon viruses... it's a real possibility.

Trapping Squirrels
Born Hunter replied to liam fox digger's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
That's the enjoyment in trapping. I wish I had the time to do more. Every time you walk up to a set it's a bit like being a young kid walking down the stairs on Christmas morning to see what awaits. LOL -
A lot of primitive societies thought the same way Gnash, they then got flattened by an advanced society or natural disaster.
-
Will I indeed? LOL. Fraz, you give me more credit than I'm due, perhaps derogatorily... I'm not familiar with a Miller?
-
Fraz, I agree and as such the vast majority of research is in Earth based technologies and science reflecting that view and priority.
-
Gnash, the way I see it is there is a lot of shit out there that will end the human race on Earth. There's also a lot of shit out there that kills people here and now and generally makes life difficult for us. Now we can accept that and just go quietly or we can step into the unknown, as we have done through our history, and master our environment ensuring our survival. I very much doubt we are going to find our nemesis within the confines of our solar system, so I see no threat finding our interstellar feet within those bounds. Small steps...

Mushroom, you c**t, lol. I was waiting for someone to mention those disks. The purpose of neither Voyagers was to look for alien life, but being the most distant man made objects some folks thought it fit to put them on 'just in case'. Perhaps I should have said, "nothing to do with the mission of Voyagers". LOL. I did also hint towards it in an earlier post when I said "certainly not a significant financial part anyway" in the context of NASAs search for ET and Voyager. Simply, the Voyager project was not funded to search for aliens, but as they were going to travel deep space some op

For something that's impossible, there is an awful lot of intelligent people that disagree.
-
Other intelligent organisms are not the only potential threat out there. There is a entire universe of shit that could wipe us from existence. Understanding it and being comfortable in the environments beyond our Earth will be key to our long term survival. Not to mention beneficial to our short term survival.
-
If we are going to talk about aliens, a topic that has nothing to do with Voyager, surely it is better that we are as technologically advanced and capable in all environments to ensure if such a meeting ever occurs we are as prepared as possible? If you don't believe aliens are a possibility then you have nothing to fear on that front.
-
Gnash, what do you mean by 'be happy with our lot and stop looking for trouble'? If you mean discovering what's out there and understanding it, then no I don't agree. Ignorance is dangerous imo. If you mean actively trying to make contact with intelligent life, then yeah I kinda agree. IMO an advanced race of aliens would be bad news for Humans.
-
Well you would do and people like you always do, until the data gathered is one day used in conjunction with other research to make a real significant difference.
-
Part of NASA research is investigating the potential for alien life, PART OF IT. The Voyager missions are not a part of that, certainly not a significant financial part anyway. There mission is to study the solar system and now beyond it. They're not looking for life. The research is as beneficial to us as any purist research. Which in turn is necessary for applied research.
-
It wouldn't make the slightest difference if I gave you a hundred examples, it wouldn't be enough for you. So, do you accept that researching the extra terrestrial 'world' is of benefit to us? Based on the fact that purist research is essential to science and that there are many things beyond our Earth that can and do effect our lives here.
-
That's neither here nor there.... You seem terrified that there is an organisation that in part is looking for extra-terrestrial life. So much so you ignore all of their other research unless you think it could be some conspiracy to find aliens.
-
So understanding the solar system, galaxy, astrophysics, cosmology, the Universe is in no way beneficial to our survival on Earth? Not like anything 'out there' could effect us here eh...... no wait!
-
NASA is indeed funded by government...... the US government! LOL. So what's your beef? A government with great foresight!
-
It's not about interests fella. So much of what we have today technologically was developed on the back of purist research which at the time had no foreseeable technological application. So how can I really give you an example of a technology that will be developed from this research? Applied research is great, but it's largely based on the discoveries of purist research..... and as I have said purist research is done purely for the advancement of our knowledge with no foreseeable tech application. The day a businessman or philanthropist controls science is the day science dies!

Trapping Squirrels
Born Hunter replied to liam fox digger's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Okay mate. I'll make tunnels out of any old shit I find about. Bricks and rocks are quite good, especially if you dig them in for permanent sets, but they are a ball ache to lug about even on the quad. When I am building tunnels in such a way though I like to really bottleneck the tunnel onto the trap pan. I figure this puts the target on the right spot but also prevents it f***ing about turning around too much in the tunnel and foul catching. Just my theory, I don't do much but it's worked for me.
