    It's not about living forever tc, it's about having a healthy body and mind to be able to enjoy life for as long as possible. Smoking/obesity might only knock a couple years off your life but it'll knock a lot of life out of the years. Everybody has the right to do whatever they like but it's not like people such as myself want to live forever. Bad genetics will kill you before a poor lifestyle will, but a healthy lifestyle will enable you to make the most of what you are blessed with. I'm not an angel either. Just the way I see it.

    how about people who are over weight, but never gone hospital, worked 35 years paying taxes / and pay full national insurance as above 35-40 years . to me there not a drain on the NHS they keeping it going my wife over weight a lot, and prob in the next few years as she gets older, will need some sort of treatment , prob to help her , and so she should she contributed for 40 years to it, and she never smoked either .!!     Not just obesity, I'd be interested to see how much heart disease and cancers in general costs the tax payer and how much of it is preventable through pretty basic lifestyle changes. People live in ignorance their whole lives, then come down with something serious and think they were just unlucky, or worse, that the government should have done more to help them change their bad ways. That whole responsibility thing again. Bottom line, if we are going to have a socialist type health system, it becomes a bit difficult to then start picking and choosing who's eligible.

    I really do hate this philosophy we seem to have where it's the governments job to make decisions for us and protect us from everything. Responsibility for your health, life and actions should begin and end with the individual, not the government. But for some reason we have nurtured a society where it is expected that the government protect us from ourselves. I hate it! The only job the government should concern itself with is protect it's citizens from 3rd party threats.     Would you really run for a bread knife if you heard a disturbance in your daughters bedroom or run upstairs first? Bearing in mind it could be anything? Grabbing a weapon would only enter my mind if I already had assessed the threat. Prior to that surely the priority is getting to your daughter quickly.     Bloody hell, seems my suggestion that a soldier from a relatively elite regiment might statistically be a tough f****r to kill is being taken a bit out of context... Unless someone knows more than is in the news, nobody can say that the dad didn't fight. And sure as shit nobody can say they would have killed him. They might very well have tried. All I was saying was that a para is probably capable of holding his own, by his very nature, so thinking that the old man should have been burying the f****r is a bit naive.

One excellent soldier and very fit lad was so incapable of swinging a punch he was awarded 'Mrs Milling' on P Coy... Sound!     We can't really compare smoking with 'bad foods'. There aren't really any 'bad' foods. Everyone has nutritional requirements to maintain their body and if you want to fit a burger and fries into that then there is no health reason why you shouldn't or would sufer for it. Certain foods aren't unhealthy, a person's poor attitude to their diet is what's unhealthy.
