Shoot a few rabbits and throw them out around the outside of the pen is another that people have tried. But apart from actualy being there and regular patrols there is not much LEGALY you can do. Plenty of cover ,regular visits, rabbits,CD,s. I have had them sooo full of meat that they couldnt fly out on their own!!! I did help them on their way of course being being concerned for their welfare and all that. The next problem of course is when the birds start leaving the pen and wandering about! Your in the same boat as the rest of us when it comes to this SERIOUS PROBLEM!! (some

Okey dokey! I can work out what I need from that. I only use BEC drinkers in the pens fed off 250lt header tanks. I only use low pressure pan drinkers of a similar design as yours on the rides and in the game covers. How do you stop your birds from perching on the sides or on the ballcock and taking a dump in them? I only use this method in the release pens. The birds tend to come for water or feed and then scratch around the pen for the rest of the day.You do get the odd "Dump" in the drinker ,but it gets a swill out every couple of days anyway.I have the big white tanks (IBC,s

White Pheasants
2434me replied to klashnekoff's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I shoot ten guns a day. If a white pheasant is shot, the guy has to pay £50(to me!) If no-body owns up to shooting it,then its £10 a head (to me!) WIN - WIN! -
I use Ivomec classic at the moment.I dont have a measure that I use on the water.I just put maybe an eggcupfull on the top and it spreads itself out to form the slick. After two days I empty out the water and replace with fresh. My drinkers are the bottom four inches of a blue barrel with a ballcock and gravity feed.So the surface area is quite large. I dont use hanging drinkers or galvanised ones.

The last two tons of pellets have Flubenvet in,after that its onto wheat and this is what I do. I hand feed everything and divide the wheat into bucket fulls, two buckets to a bag. I then mix 100ml with half a litre of water and mix it(per bucket) with the wheat in a big plastic tub. Put it back into the bags and let it soak in overnight and feed the next morning.(4500/5000 birds) I do it this way for two reasons, 1, a couple of my pens have water running through them . 2,I can keep the birds hungry the day before so I know they will all come to the feed. I alternate Panacur

It just depends on what you want the dog to do! If its just a general purpose gundog. Then wait untill you see a dog that you like and its style of working, and book a pup out of it the next time the guy decides to breed. Dogs are just like us! All different. You could quite easily get 10 guys with 10 different idea,s of what they want in a dog . Its entirely your preference to the type of dog you want . The best thing would be to wait untill you see a dog that YOU really like and then take it from there.

2012...Pheasant poults Delivered to Aberdeen
2434me replied to 2434me's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Lab, I am not dissagreeing with you .Everyone deserves a profit! I have been getting birds from the same guy in England for 15 years and they have been decent quality at a decent price. Bottom line is that if I can find birds at a keen price,I can get rid of all my rearing equipment!! But the numbers have to add up or the boss will not go for it . As long as I am pi***ng about on a rearing field, theres nothing getting done on the rest of the ground! After 25 years, 8 months without a day off is wearing a bit thin! If I can cut it down to 6 months I,ll be happy.Summer holidays in Marc -

£4 !!!Thats expensive! I can get local- ish birds for £3.40 . -
Who cares about the eggs!.....Nice Nails
-
Right guys, I am already looking for next years poults. At the right price I will take 4000+. I am only just outside Aberdeen,so they wont have to be taken 30 mile up a glen somewhere. I can get poults delivered for £3.20 each THIS year(from England!).So If anyone is in touch with a decent game farm that could possibly beat that price then get in touch and we can start swopping phone numbers. Preferably someone established ? but open to suggestions.

Dead! What....all six of them ?

"you can pay to go on 6 stalks but not see anything," If your going to book stalking outings, wait for the does to come in! Less chance of being blank.
