  1. Isnt great how times have changed and ferret husbandry has moved on in leaps and bounds, if this post had been put up years ago, if computers had been invented, top of the list would have been Bread and milk, and here we are with not a mention.
  2. I am exactly in the same boar, had my first Lurcher 43 years ago, and have contacted Penny a few times, regarding feeding, Retrieving ect, all her pms to me have been spot on, given excellent advice, and always quickly, I use her book a lot, diving in and out, a book that does not gather dust on your book-shelve, certainly appears to know her stuff, regarding injuries, and feeding. and as the first post states, you are never too old to learn.
  3. I am always amazed what is used in Animal Health, When I had pedigree Sheep, I used to jab them to bring them into Season, I found out this was made from Pregnant Mare Serum.
  4. I fed mine minced beef, and Lamb, and rabbit, now at three Months two weeks I have put them on complete, in the Winter they will go back to meat, mainly rabbit hopefully.
  5. Regarding minerals, and vitamins, although I feed raw I give them SA50 daily, and a small pinch of powdered Seaweed, and two teaspoons of cod liver oil a Week.
  6. I used to visit an old Greyhound owner many moons ago, who boiled sheeps heids, and Knackery meat and Tripe, on his kitchen cooker, I will say no more.
  7. Thanks i have a tin of the old stuff, but is it save to use?
  8. Can anyone tell me the make of a Disinfectant that would be safe to use on a concrete Ferret court, that I could purchase in a Supermarket, I think someone said the Pine ones are safe to use, but im not sure.
  9. Im sure with your Pup being young, this will help getting over this injury, as has been mentioned I would ask Skycat on here, hope it all ends well, let us know how the Pup gets on.
  10. Your post brings back happy memories, when I worked nights on a ward, I used to knit my nets, one ward I worked in had a really long corridor which I decided would be fine for repairing my long net, got caught by night admin, and had quite a bit of explaining, managed to escape with a warning, different now days.
  11. Nothing wrong with the Dog in the Rabitting Man Dvd it was just the Rabitt punches that put me off, I spoke to Simon Whitehead recently for the first time, he was fine, very pleasant, and took time to have a blether.
  12. Can anyone help me with a fistful of ferrets, and a few ferrets more?, I recently swopped a Terrier book on here for the essential guide ferreting book, by simon whitehead, I have read a few, on the night shift, and it is probably the best. didn't enjoy rabbiting man 1 where his mate tries to despatch rabbits with rabbit punches.not the way to do it.
  13. I have been doing this Skycat taking him in the car 2 min journey to fields where I exercise him, also sitting in the car with engine off, for half an hour, he does okay with this, but then take him, 5 miles and he starts drooling and being sick, I will keep doing the short journeys, but twice a week I will do a longer one with the sealegs.
  14. My two boxes of Sealegs arrived today, will let you know how I get on, I have been told by the breeder, its the only thing that worked for him, half a tab,15 mins before a journey, obviously it wont be just up the road, I will take him to the beach which is 20 miles there and back, I have done this journey twice, with sickness each time.
  15. I knitted hemp nets 30 years ago, I dry them after every outing, nothing fancy, just hang them up in the shed, and they will be in use this coming Winter.
  16. 35 years ago an old friend of mine, who happened to have a cracking lurcher, was up in court on a poaching charge, the water bailiffs produced the frozen salmon into the courtroom along with the snare attached to a length of fencing wire, the judge asked how the method was used and my friend explained the techniques of how to snare Salmon, the judge appeared fascinated, but it didn't help my mate who was still fined £50.
  17. I have already emailed Simon Whitehead, no reply yet, Bathgate and Tayside are over 100 miles from me. I just thought with ferrets as pets getting popular, someone would make a decent feeder.
  18. Well it would have been my Stepdaughter that would be looking in on them, and she wont go near them, there is no rescues where I live, I mean at a push I could take them out the court, and put them in another hutch that has a door I can block them out the main area, but the feeder would have been handy.
  19. I give my Whippet pup three Chicken wings for breakfast, easy way to do it.
  20. Not too bad, but he certinlay does not like the car, when you open the car door, he does not want to go in.
  21. Can anyone recommend a good quality rabbit carrier, sensible answers only.
  22. In the Summer I like to use Dry, so really looking for a feeder that would be good at dispensing dry, not interested in the electric ones.
  23. Does anyone know a decent feeder, for a ferret court, so you can go away for a couple of days, and just have someone look in on them. I saw a square grey one, on Simons Whitheads DVD ferrets and Ferreting, but he does not say what make it is, had a look at Cat feeders, thinking they wood do, bust most get bad write ups.
  24. Well, there you go, get yourself a basket rigged net, that should do the trick, and if you don't get on with it, im sure it would be easy to sell on here, If you are netting at night I personally would not go for a Trammell, a 4 oz net with plenty bagging, should wrap them Bunnies up no problem, Out of interest anyone know what they charge for these drop systems?
