  1. Dawn i do acknowledge that inbreeding can cause problems and thats why selection is so important...........but you must also acknowledge that inbreeding can also produce some superb animals who if not for inbreeding would not have been as good.Im not dragging this out i just think folk need to be willing to try things before writing them off as bad......i agree there was never any need for this thread to get silly and insulting after all we are all learning off each other and listening to opinions,we dont have to agree with them but still good to hear them. Hi Gnasher. I do agree that som
  2. I asked because I didnt know, at NO time have I been rude to you, its when people start being abusive, that threads get locked and mods feel like packing it all in. The fact remains about inbreeding, if it suits you fine, but it still causes problems for dogs whether owners choose to acknowledge it or not. By the way, have you managed to find him a home? If so you could say its because of me!
  3. Fence-Hopper, why have you got such a rude attitude? Nobody has been rude to you have they? All have had a reasonably civil conversation and you come in gung ho!! Really no need for it and after all, its bringing YOUR sale to the top each time folk log on!
  4. SPOT ON Droid!! If it looks wrong, doesnt do well etc.. its culled, nobody knows any different, litter brother is ok, bred from and BINGO next generation has a heitened degree of the problem!
  5. Dawn B ...i dont wish to offend you as i certainly cant be bothered getting into an internet argument....but with respect i have come across your sort before......people who think long scientific words prove they know how to breed sporting dogs.....it just doesnt work like that.....when it comes to dogs bred for the extremes of sporting prowess there just isnt any classroom or text book that will teach that....because breeding to extremes is justnot done very much......show me a text book or scientist who teaches people how to breed extreme fighting gameness in dogs ?...extreme working ability
  6. My genetics come from 22yrs in attending various seminars on canine and feline genetics, inbreeding, outcrossing and the canine athlete. I dont breed dogs, I do however take an interest in how they work, physical and mental capabilities dependant on inheritance and COI. Close matings cause problems, simple fact, some may be lucky, others will not, just not worth the risk IMO. I mean no offence, just how I feel, 8 lines to one dog is not good at all, but as I said I base my opinion on what I know, others will base their opinion on what they know, and at the end of the day, if the new owne
  7. You really should learn a little about in/linebreeding before coming out with such a statement......there are sporting breeds that have dogs going back up to 20 times back to a certain good dog in its ped.....and there is simply no way these dogs would survive the sporting tests put on them if there was anything wrong with them......8 times back to a dog 5 generations back in the ped would be considered quite loose line breeding.....8 times back to a dog 3 generations back would be quite tight inbreeding.....do you even know how many gens back the dog thats been linebred on was ? Not to be re
  8. Not sure why you felt the need to PM me Fence-Hopper, I would of seen the thread when I logged in! 8 lines back to one dog is incredible inbreeding, not something to be recommended nor encouraged, I wanted to make sure it wasnt a mistake, was kinda hoping it was. Still hope he gets a good home though.
  9. Blue grizzle? Never heard of that colour in Borders, hope you find her a good permanent home.
  10. 8 lines back to the same dog, really?
  11. It wont be leggs perthes, it will probably be "Luxating patella" or Jack Russell hop! Its when the knee slips in and out of its groove as the dog moves, they usually walk ok and run ok, but "skip" when trotting. In most cases it causes no problems.

    sciatica

I sympathise with all of you that have this I had it and it was awful. I had it so bad that I lost feeling in my lower leg, but the pain above it was just dreadful, I couldnt do anything. I waited and waited for a referral from my GP, in the end I paid to see a private specialist. The NHS waiting list for an MRI scan was 3-6mths, the waiting list private? 3/4 of an hour! So i paid and had it done. It showed a severely herniated disc plus a couple others "bulging" but not serious, the herniated disc had spilled out, pushed onto the sciatic nerve which in turn pressed onto the spinal co
  13. How awful, but well done in finding the cause and you now know its not contagious or out so others can be affected too.
  14. If she isnt lame she may of injured her back. Keep her VERY quiet for a few days and if no improvement take her to the Vet. Back injuries are quite common but its important if thats the case to rest her a LOT and not let her run or jump around for a good couple weeks at the least.
  15. Lovely Dobe, quality bitch!! If she were mine, I would NOT walk her anywhere near grass etc.. for a good couple weeks, road walking ONLY, and only then when she is back to normal, if she doesnt react in that time then it probably is a contact allergy of some type. At the end of a couple weeks, I would LEAD exercise her and watch which plants etc.. she comes into contact with, make a note and see what happens, its an elimination game I would of thought and thats how I would do it. Best of luck. Dawn.
  16. http://www.mfha.org.uk/directory/scotland/ These are all the hunts in Scotland, you could email them and ask.
  17. You can collect sperm from live dogs and use it later yes. A golden retriever that died over 20yrs ago recently "sired" another litter!! This is in pedigree dogs though and Im not sure how or who you would contact to go about it, maybe the animal health trust?
  18. Forgive me when i saw the title "rip" I thought you had lost him!! Best of luck.
  19. Very nice images, really classy.
  20. Unfortunately thats what happens when you clip a harsh coated breed, it often ruins it and it cant be stripped again. if this has happened to your dog chances are it will always be like that and will always have to be clipped.
