I remember reading an article in one of the shooting mags years ago on fox control and it had very detailed illustrations of artificial fox earths, if i remember correctly it had the entrance pipe and an internal chamber made from galvanised metal sunk into the ground obviously. Just wondering if anyoe has used them for long term fox control on a shoot for instance. Foxy

If you want to stay out of prison mate id ignore 95% of the above replies!! Get yourself a live catch fox cage, bait it with scraps from the kitchen or a dead rabbit then either despatch him with a rimmy or release him far away. Foxy

i don't have a motive as you call it mate, im just giving my views on a subject which interests me, which i think this forum is for? and lets not get personal about it either, im talking about this subject in general not about my own snaring methods, as ive been doing it quite succesfully for over ten years.

Ive been using conventional fox snares with deer stops for over ten years so im aware of how they free a deer if caught by the leg, but having caught many big strong dog foxes over the years and seen the struggle they can put up in a snare im just not totally convinced how these eyelets would hold for a fox and not a deer...a Muntjac for instance? Obviously its the snaremans responsability to do his homework before setting so hes not setting where non target species are present, but if this was the case all of the time there would be no need for break-away fox snares because no snares would be

thats a pretty bold statement, i dont think there is a snare man alive that hasnt caught a non target species at one point. And if there is no way a roe deer could get caught in even a badly set fox snare why bother using break-aways in the first place? Foxy

that may be very well in your case but if it was in everyones case then there would be no need for these snares that will release a non target species?? what im geting at is i dont think a non target species i.e a roe deer would put up any less of a struggle in a fox snare when caught than a fox would so are they really usefull?? Fair play mate...PM me your address and ill start live catch trapping them and you can have the lot in your garden since they dont really do anything bad, i wont even charge you for them.

Here is a pic of the snares that caught these Foxes. As you can see they have Breakaway eyelets on them as devised by Mr G S Waters. The Foxes made quite a mess on the Wires but the Eyelets still held. Ive just ordered a few of these Break away snares, for both rabbit and fox, mostly because ive never seen one and think the idea behind them will sit well with the company. I fully understand them being usefull for in rabbit snares as anything bigger i.e a dog, cat, deer etc will be able to break free but im not so sure about the fox version, because in my view if it holds a struggling f

Hi mate, one of the best ways to get experience in Falconry and Birds of prey in general in voluntary work, is it a centre you are going out hunting with? if so its maybe worth asking them if they are looking for any weekend help, alot of them are glad of it, be prepared to start at the bottom though mucking out cleaning etc it wont all be flying and handling birds but what you will pick up along the way will amaze you, there are other things you may want to consider aswell such as the LANTRA beggining falconry award which if a complete novice will give you a sound knowlege base on general bir

Hi Trappa, ive got a book on pointers by George wallace, its very good, planning on a GSP myself to work with the Birds and the Gun and this book covers it all, do you have any pics of your pup? cheers Foxy

Spot on, come across this problem many times a year myself and if the customer isnt willing to pay out for Fencing or other proofing there is no solution other than long term control using the various methods already mentioned. Foxy

Dont charge him mate, tell him you will help him out in return for the sole hunting rights on the land, if you charge him money it wont be long before he finds out there are plenty of lads out there willing to help him out for free or even pay him!!
