You are certainly picking them Dog Mink up now Foxy,.. The talk is all about 'Mink Rafts' round here,...feck me,.it like being on a Desert Island... Cheers,.CHALKWARREN... i usually put rafts in after a population knock down in a specific area or if i suspect water voles are present obviously, great monitoring tool, pain in the arse having to get the waders out though! Back to the subject in hand.....another dog mink taken today from the same stream a few hundred yards from the set that took yesterdays, im guessing there is an in season bitch in the area, so hopefully pick her up shortly....

Ok maybe i should have chosen my words better and there may be a time when as you say any trap may not kill cleanly, but used correctly in a well constructed set theres no reason at all why a genuine mk 6 fenn shouldnt kill the animal instantly, so if i was finding that my catches were regularly(or at all for that matter) foul trapping or being dragged i would think there was definitely something wrong. its this attention to detail in my honest opinion thats makes a good trapper, any fool can catch a mink, but only a good trapper will kill them cleanly. Mk 6 Fenns all the way mate, kills em clean every time Foxy no they dont. Yes they do. And if they dont the trapper is the problem not the trap.... FACT Foxy well not once have i had a mink drag a mk6 out of a set, if i find them they are dead where they have stood, so im going to agree to disagree on this, before it turns into another kids playground of a thread, should have known better to put up pics of my trapping exploits, funnily enough the last guy to post trapping pics on here of mink also came up agains the same pish. I did exactly the same a few years back - I thought he'd be a bit wonky when I got him out but he was ok and went on to bolt me a couple of dozen rabbits in a particularly tricky overgrown corner of the shoot. I put him out of any misery shortly afterwards . . . OTC Put it out its Misery??? i thought it was ok? if it managed to bolt you a couple of dozen rabbits it couldnt have been in much misery and if it was any trapper worth his salt would have put it out its misery there and then not use it for his own means then do it in later on. Just out of interest , anyone geting on one there certificate, where are they meant to buy the pistol from?? cant imagine many dealers having them. Foxy

We have our fair share of dog peddlers on this site and now it seems the ferret peddlers are rearing their ugly heads, amazing what some folk will do to make a quick buck, sad state of affairs really. Foxy

I have some ground over that direction some of it with good flood land and ponds but they are mostly spoken for already as far as the ducks go, never seen them being shot once last season myself which was quite frustrating to say the least!

Sporting shooter fox snare article
Foxy09 replied to Foxy09's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Sorry OTC, i dont have a scanner Foxy -
Anyone read this months sporting shooter article on Fox snaring? Looks like the boffins at GWCT are about to take the credit for introducing the break away snare! Wouldnt worry about them catching much to prove they work though, their top tips for improving success are to follow the new guidelines set out by BASC, NGO and themselvs! Foxy

Good pics mate, not many folk are quick enough to get a decent photo of them! where were they taken? Foxy

these pictures are going to be a regular occurrance on tv shortly if these best snaring practices are put forward by these so called experts, as i say repeatedly set high in open and short locations at 10 inches to bottom of loop and in higher grass at 12 inches , this will cut out a lot of problems for snaremen, and very very few captures of non target species . think about it, large fox cubs out hunting by themselves are caught clean around the neck in pegged rabbit snares set in higher grass at between 9 and 10 inches to the bottom of the loop , if you catch cubs at this height . why the he
