  1. Had a recce around the shoot last night but couldn't stand still for more than a few seconds as the midges were very hungry ? Watched 2 barn owls hunting which was great and saw around a dozen roe including 2 kids.
  2. Used to love stalking at Blenheim , loads of deer and always had plenty success. Things changed there as always and haven't been since 2007. Any idea how the stalking is operated these days.
  3. Interesting to read that fallow seem to influence the number of roe and munties on your ground. I used to stalk at Blenheim Palace in Oxford and there was loads of all 3 species there, fallow didn't seem to affect the number of roe or munties at all.
  4. Great set up ?Do you shoot most foxes off the roof , what it they come in to the side or from behind ?
  5. Great result , I often wonder how many deer are shot at and presumed missed , only to run on and lay dead within 100 yards ? Beautiful part of the world D & G ?
  6. I know where you are coming from it would have been easier without him but he wasnt too bad for first time out. I wouldnt take him if I was out solo as wouldnt be productive. It was just experience for him and to see if he could find the deer, his nose was to the ground but he went in the opposite direction at first from where the deer had come from but once we got downwind he soon found it ?
  7. Went out this evening with my mate stalking and decided to take my 10 month old pup out to see how he behaved. We settled into our usual spot watching the wood edge but the pup wouldnt settle wanting to play but I persevered with him. Eventually 2 bucks and a doe emerged , 1 buck and doe disappeared back into the wood leaving the other buck to disappear into a ditch unsighted. Eventually he came out about 100 yds away but started trotting across the field, I had to shout at him 3 times before he stopped and my mate shot him , perfect lung shot ran 20 yards and dropped ? Let the pup off to fin

  9. Cracking head , definitely make a medal , possible Gold ?Let us know. Which county was it shot ?
  10. It is only going to get worse , the bunny hugger brigade are easily manipulated by the likes of WJ as they never set foot in the countryside and have no idea of how it operates.
  11. I have had a couple of SJs years ago and the other shoot members in their Toyotas ,Landrovers etc used to take the piss until one day when they all got stuck going up a muddy bank . I had the last laugh though when I overtook them all laughing ?????

  16. As already said wouldnt want to live next to a river , especially with the modern climate and flash flooding all the time. I am on top of a hill so lucky in that respect.
  17. Believe you me I often smell of blood , guts , piss ,cow shit etc... it doesn't bother me in the slightest but the wife often pulls a face ?
  18. Exactly ? nothing but an old wives tale. How could you possibly know it gives you more time ? I've had foxes and roe staring you out and still given you time to get rifle off shoulder and shoot them.
