  1. BC is pretty mountainous. Good bear hunting. Both Black and Grizzly. otherwise various grouse, deer, moose. Hope you enjoy it.
  2. Hi jack. Yes some pointing instinct should already be apparent. With some Wirehairs, it develops later than others. Mine was pointing out of the box. Others took as much as two years. I don't know why. One of the keys to bringing it out. Is to not let the dog catch any birds. So, if your going to plant birds. Don't dizzy them up very much. pigeons are good because they are strong flyers. But they have to be freshly caught. I might try resting the dog from birds for a little while after an incidental catch. How did she do on pheasants? Was she pointing them? if not, a more basic approac
  3. Yep. excellent work. Dogs look sharp, as do the pics. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Thats a good looking pup! Nice coat on her.
  5. I might give up a couple of my guns for a Lurcher. If you are looking to trade. But give up my guns all together? No.
  6. We're not over crowded brother. You need to get out and see the world. It's mostly vacant of people. If your government tells you not to have children. Have many. ATB
  7. Thats what I feed. Over here, it's 30% protein, 20% fat. Which is what I look for.
  8. Eliminating undue vibrations? Makes sense.
  9. It's a different sort of hunting. But a job well done. [/url] http://www.foxnews.c...riendly_story/0,3566,587323,00.html The life-saving skills of a black Labrador have earned him a top medal in the British Army, Sky News reported Wednesday. Nine-year-old Treo's job is to sniff out roadside bombs in Afghanistan for soldiers, and he has proved rather good at it. In August, 2008, while working as a forward detection dog in Sangin, Treo found a "daisy chain" improvised explosive device (IED) - made of two or more explosives wired together - that had been carefully modified and conce
  10. Nice pics dirtwinger. Thanks for sharing The pups seem to be coming along fine. Just curious. Do the hawks teach the pups their manors. Or do you? I see the hawks wings are down and it doesn't seem to be guarding the kill at all. Even as the pups nose around it. Once again, very nice pics. ATB
  11. Nice looking pup. How about Shanay (Shaa naay) Sounds better than it reads. ATB
  12. I have to agree with Bigshrimp. The only consideration should be structural. ie the female may need to be larger to carry the pups. For chromosomes and all that. Dogs have 39 pairs. These carry all the genes that make up their genotype. Each contributes half as was stated. Female based genes are carried by an X chromosome. Males have one from their dam and a Y from their sire. Females of course have two Xs One from sire and one from dam. Some traits are dominate and some are recessive. (The guys who understand that Merle thing are way ahead of me on this ) Some are carried by female ge
  13. Thanks for sharing your pics poacherman. Nice going on that Teal allrounder. On getting your shotgun license as well. Plenty of good times ahead I'll bet.
  14. Nice work Doc! I guess you guys are among the few without snow. Hope the weather turns for ya. ATB p.s. I think you and the pups are being called out. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=142025
  15. The member cannot receive any new messages. Oh well, Here it is. Edited for general consumption, and interest I hope. How versatile would a 3/4 grey-1/4 collie be. I know your lurcher ( a fine looking animal) is part saluki. But I thought their abilities might be close enough for discussion. For instance would you be able to expect one to remain quiet in the blind while hunting over decoys in the field? It could be a few hours. Would one learn to mark falling birds. Or are they, more keyed to movement? Would teaching one to use it's nose with "hot dog trails" and things of that n
  16. Dave C, They say you can't recieve any messages. What did you do wrong.
  17. I agree. Thats a good looking dog. Plenty of coat for Canadien winters.
  18. A second opinion is good advice. If there is a veterinary oncologist around you. That would be a good vet. to see. Good luck
  19. No it's a stuffed one! Seriously yeah it is why? What's wrong with that?? . Not a thing.
