  1. I have a dog from a brother sister mating (didn't know when I bought it) I have had nothing but problems with it since I brought it home. It has skin problems caused by allergies, auto immune problems and it gets colitis at the drop of a hat. it has cost me a fortune in vets bills. If you don't have to breed them together I wouldn't.
  2. My Deerhound nearly lost an eye this morning because he's never learned to jump properly, he ploughed straight into a wire fence on our property because he can't jump. I was worried about his joints when he was younger, should have taught him from small as I have the others, they dont have any problems with their joints or jumping. The Deerhound has a big cut across the bridge of his nose, his eye lid and down the side of his face.
  3. I know someone who used a heat lamp. The bitch was whelping and the lamp went on fire followed quickly by the kennel most of the pups were killed. Luckily the mother was discovered before she was burned to death.
  4. Working line GSD and show line GSD might as well be two different breeds now, I think you would have to use a working line dog to get a decent cross. Show lines are bred for the pet market so have not got the same drive as working line.
  5. Only problem with garlic it causes a type of anaemia in dogs, dont know what the safe amount is. I would imagine it could affect running performance.
  6. I've had resistance problems with Frontline also. Advocate spot on is great and is effective against Lung worm also.
  7. Thank you for your support, I'll keep at it.
  8. As you can see by my name I am also a woman, but you're right! Always a mistake to use a logical argument. Funny thing though the stage one and two that I wanted to take are so easy I didn't need to train with them first, I was being Polite!
  9. Your right a happy ending for once. I wonder if the people who had it, stole it or bought it off someone else?
  10. I am furious! I have also done something I have never done in my life before; I called someone a Moron and put down the phone! I have a very good young dog obedient, natural retriever and a fantastic nose. Not my words the words of someone who competes at World Championships with a dog and also the words of the top Working Trials Trainer in the country! I decided I would like to do for fun, the grade 1,2 and maybe three Retriever tests with him, he could do the one and two without any additional training. I rang the Gun Dog club to join a course so that he was eligible to take the tests.
  11. Keep a careful eye on your dog, my bitch caught kennel cough and it developed into Pneumonia nearly lost her, she spent two days at the vets on a drip. She was fighting fit when she caught it. Lungs have never fully recovered.
  12. I think I've said somewhere before, Poodles arn't like Show GSD'S that have had underirable traits bred out of them for the pet market so they have very little work ethic left. Poodles are delightful dogs and more importantly nobody has bothered to breed out the hunting instinct, they didn't need to. Modern Poodles still have all their hunting instincts intact. My standard is as keen as mustard, I actually wanted a labradoodle but couldnt afford one lol I bought my Standard and thank god I did, he has run rings round every Doodle we have come up against. He takes rabbits for me also.
  13. , theres is enough shit in the lurcher world, from [supposedly] proven stuff. So why use a dog [which] has not been bred to hunt for over 100 years's, . Everybody to there own thing, but the base line [lurcher or greyhound] is wasted with a S poodle. The important thing is the S Poodle has not been bred not to hunt, all the hunting genes are still there in modern Poodles.
  14. OMG that is seriously cute, pity you live so far away I would have given it a good home. Those ears fantastic.
  15. I have a useless Deerhound also, but lovely looking dog and nicest temperament so we forgive him
  16. I am so sorry this has happened to you. I was looking forward to getting my first Lurcher pup, after reading this I'm not going to bother. There is a lot of dog theft in the area I live and I don't now think it's worth the risk and heartbreak. I hope you get your dogs back.
  17. Years ago we used to go moonlight skinny dipping in a private swimming pool guarded by a loose, large and vocal GSD, we never missed a nights swimming. Teenagers were more inventive in those days
  18. Amazing photos, your wife should have her photograph framed she looks lovely on it.
  19. Do you think a guard dog would always help, I'm not so sure, you can trick a dog one way or another.
  20. A few have been stolen near me, I think people notice running dogs I've been out with my Hound in another town and someone came up recognised him and knew exactly where I lived. I don't even like him going out in the garden on his own. What are you supposed to do to keep them safe.
  21. Mine carry the eggs to the concrete and drop them to crack them open.
  22. Mine love eggs they have one or two a week including shells, I keep hens so they help themselves out of the nests. They have fantastic coats.
