  1. Fantastic photos! That looks so much fun. Unfortunately I dont know anyone in my area to tag along with.
  2. So many crosses to choose from, have decided next time someone offers me a lurcher pup or I see one offered for rehoming I'll go for that. Problem of choice solved as long as it's got good feet it's mine.
  3. Thats a shame about the Bullx not being social, amazing looking dogs but I don't think I want to take on another dog that is such a responsibility. Can you get them Staffy crossed or wouldn't they be any good.
  4. Hi Doxhope, I waited thirty years to get my Deerhound so settled for a show line dog, he looks more Wolfhound and hasn't really got a lot of interest in hunting. He is a lovely dog but I wish I could have found a working line dog, mine also has allergy problems.
  5. I do not know what I am talking about so nobody take offence! But I really like the look of the Bullx, fantastic muscle tone and I think stunning dogs. I have noticed a few disagreements on here re bullx, why, have they got temperament problems.
  6. Exactly! wet dog, which is why I'm looking for advice on which cross lurcher to buy.
  7. Hi Welshwizard he is 35tts it's like watching a tanker turn.
  8. Lovely dog, the last working Trial I was at a woman titled a collie lurcher. My Poodles good but I can't risk him getting hurt I've put in too much time training him. Going on the replies Whippet or Greyhound with Collie would do the trick. I'll start looking. Thanks everyone.
  9. Thanks for the info, I dont like Border Collies, too much like hard work, does crossing them with a grey get rid of that manic have to be doing something temperament?
  10. I joined the forum as I have given up with my Deerhound, he's too big to turn fast enough, and I wanted info on which cross to buy for hunting rabbits, day time and lamping. Well after reading for several months I still have no idea and am more confused than when I joined lol.

Don't wish to be alarmist but I would take the above advice and take this very seriously. There was a case in the papers a few months ago where a couple had their child taken into care after police and RSPCA raided over dogs. The police made a mess of the place and then called social services. Didn't say what happened about the dogs.
  12. We have our own land so have space to walk him off road but unfortunately if he's walked on grass his allergies flare up and his feet get very red and sore. I'm wondering about getting him some of those boots but they look uncomfortable.
  13. Just my opinion, I have a Sport bred gsd, he was socialised very well and trained to a very high standard. You can take him anywhere he is confident, calm and very friendly, I would not trust him with a child for a minute. Training makes a dog well behaved and teaches it appropriate reactions to situations, it does not change a dogs character if a dog is put under enough pressure it will react at genetic level not the level it was trained to. RIP Little man.
  14. I am now rather worried, I told a clay pigeon shooting friend of mine what I was intending. He says I must be mad either the dog will get shot or I will and most people go shooting drunk and dont obey the safety rules. Is this true? Also something about wearing goggles and a special jacket "just in case"
  15. Thanks for the tips the advice is appreciated.
  16. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  17. I have a purebred Deerhound, he is wearing the nails on one hind leg down to the quick, I can no longer walk him on the road. He has been to a Greyhound vet who advised there was nothing that could be done it was just "his action" Any advice would be appreciated as the dog is not in good condition, dosn't eat well never has and suffers from allergies. Have tried raw green tripe, he sniffed it heaved and walked off! I'm getting desperate.
  18. I live on a smallholding so he is good around stock, but the way he reacted when he picked up the scent of a pheasant I don't know. It was like something being switched on in his head.
  19. Would you be able to work them on the lead or long line till you were sure they would recall in that situation or not?
  20. Just a general question what training does a dog need to take part in a shoot as a beater?
  21. I wouldn't put a shock collar on a pup.Just a thought, Are you going to it when it barks? If you are it will bark more and more. If its been fed, watered and exercised put it in it's crate in a room on its own and IGNORE it. It's probably training you. It will soon realise you only go to it when its quiet. Obviously take it out to relieve itself or you will have house training problems also. Dogs have to learn to be alone.
  22. I don't think my dog is any different from most of the breed, I just havn't told him he's a Poodle.
  23. As you say the only people who take the micky out of Poodles are people who have never owned one. My old miniature Poodle was a tough little devil, he jumped in to defend my daughter on one occasion and he jumped in before my GSD did. He wasn't very effective but it's the thought that counts.
